And again, as I already mentioned once before here too, go read your internet service provider agreement. You'll see that within it contains kill provisions already, which you obviously agreed to when you contracted with them to get onto the internet. Why did you agree to that? They can boot you off any time you break any of their rules. If your government ever goes rogue on you, they can boot you off simply for engaging in illegal activity, which would include the overthrow of our government. You've ready agreed to a kill switch, so NAH!

congratualations you worked in IT your whole life - so has most of China, Iindia and anywhere else with access to telecommunications that are searching for work.. you are nothing special.

Now since you work in IT I will talk to you on your level. A computer that cannot find a DNS is still connected to the internet - an IP can still be used to connect to the computer.
You can pull DNS server's all you like, people still have private networks that are networked via IP and you really think some 1337 h4x0r in russia would stand by and let you take his net away from him? they would create virii overnight that travel by scanning whole IP ranges and setup their own DNS that they control (now look what youve done!). Spectre said it perfectly their are too many layer's - the internet is like an onion layer after the layer and the more you peel back the more it will make you cry.

Now that peer to peer technology is everywhere DNS really is not much of an issue to those in the know - torrents have huge lists of other peers IP's how long do you think it would be before some russian guru came out with virri that grab those IP addresses and use them to pass around the information - if i can think of it they have already got them so they wouldnt even need to hit compile. The people will find way's around anything you or any governement can create... why do you think computer virii are still around, for every patch you make they make a patch for your patch.

Infact Im just going to ignore this thread as you have just proved my point by saying you could take down the 'majority of the internet' - my point being there is no possible way to kill the internet, you can hurt it as much as you like but it will heal and it will come back angry.

I'm going to have to STRONGLY disagree with you on killing the net sir. You mean to tell me you put SO MUCH FAITH into being herded and kept in the dark? WHAT???!!! Not to sling mud, but would you happen to be a troll from Europe or something? Because that's not how it's done here in this country, we came to that consensus since back when by leaving the net as is for the most part. We Americans are FAR too ingenious in the end to even allow something like that to happen in the first place. If there are a large amount of psychopaths on the net, do you know what you do? Identify them and keep away. Killing the internet during an emergency would be like slitting your wrist with Occam's Razor.

The only way shutting off the net would be beneficial in any case is if we humans firmly established a natural global telepathy, which I personally think is starting to peak it's face into our reality to be honest.

The kill switch has many draw backs . And I totally absolutely disagree with you on the kill switch .

reasons against kill switch

1 Governmental control of ALL news news sources will get information from each other on the web . News would then be only delivered to the news agencies threw governmental APPROVED routes . Which is what they want you to hear .

2 Many businesses get most of their income from credit cards 70 % now your kill switch in a time of crisis will shut down 70% of the commerce in the US and who knows how much around the globe .

3 Banks use the internet to check deposits and checks . Effectively shutting down the banking system .

4 many people pay bills online do their banking online this will freeze asset of untold millions of Americans and cripple business and utility companies .

5 Those who get their news primarily from the web they will be left in the dark.

6 those people who use the net for interacting with friends and relatives will be SOL .

7 The great amount of people who use the internet for contacting people will be forced to use the phones or letters during a crisis .

8 During other disasters the phone lines were totally clogged the use of the internet eased families worry since they had another avenue to contact loved ones with this kill switch all the relief the net brought will be dumped back to clogged phone lines .

9 If the internet is still in place in a time of crisis BB boards could be set up to display living or dead from a crisis , citizens relief organizations could easily talk with each other for the best help . The net could and has helped coordinate donations set up of Ham radio systems and deliver early warnings of newer threats.

You cannot simply shut off communication in a time of chaos. There would not only be an upheaval of rage towards the govt for keeping families from contacting eachother, since most phone systems are now VOIP (Internet Based), but you would only be making the rumors worse.

When I read an article on the internet, I take it with a grain of salt. But hearing it from a person, usually gives it an auspicious aura of truth & or mystery.

Granted, some internet users are not the brightest crayon in the coloring box, and will believe me if I posted that tommorow the world was ending, but most users are reliably intelligent users and regardless of falsifiers that might try to spread lies, they will be able to tell the truth when they put 1 and 2 together.

As stated in my previous posts it is not possible to have a kill switch for the internet because of it's design.

NOW KEEP READING: America can go out of it's way to force it's own companies to put this kill system inplace - which would be an epic battle in itself.
Even if it got away with that It America CANNOT and I REPEAT CANNOT force the rest of the world's companies to put these systems inplace.

You really think any country will allow companies operating in its borders to have kill switches that America can flick? HA! THINK ABOUT IT!
