For centuries our human ancestor's have speculated on the end of the world. Either through Hebrew Prophecy, Hopi, Mayan or timewave. Even modern prophets such as Nostradomus and Edgar Cayce. By now I would like to know exactly what people are thinking about if this is to happen.

I believe in 2012 myself and I cannot push what I believe on people, but! The world will end one day and I would like to know how it will end through you the people of ATS. It's terribly hard to understand a thing such as a new world order, or a doomsday or a alien take over. But I would like to ask. I want people to tell me what they feel, instead of what they have heard

There is no evidence of the end of the world...but there is evidence that something of significance (potentially hazardous) is likely to happen around 2012...that's all I know...

EDIT: As for what I feel, I feel something...some sort of shift is taking place IMO...it can be seen and felt by everyone...people are slowly waking up and tuning in...

There have been Mass Extinction Events in the past, we know this to be true through various scientific and archeological studies.

What we don't know is how they come to pass and if anything, or anybody has survived those in the past.

I think when the "world" ends, human beings will have long been dead and gone.

I think our present society is on the verge of destruction, but not anihilation.

The world as we know it will end in 2012!
That being the world of superstition.
In 2013 we will all get on with our lives in a more practical way.
Free from paranoia.
Free to worry about dangers we can detect such as asteroids and comets etc.

I agree. And I think humans have a long, long way to go. Our descendants may be very different 10,000 years from now, but they'll be around.

I think people that are not willing to abandon their beliefs will die a slow death of torture, until they realize their beliefs are what hold them back from progressing. We are not animals, although some would argue that killing is in human nature. I do not agree suffice it to say we have allowed ourselves to create conditions in which killing each other becomes an option. I believe that the end times is a time for all belief structures to be turned upside down...those willing to dream and believe things could be better will thrive in the new age.

I believe that the world will end with a new beginning just as the Bible says. Whether it's 2010 or 2012 doesn't matter.

Change is painful. Although, I'm sure you are alluding to atheist vs theist idea and religion. That being said only time will tell who is right. Although, I wish no one harm. Inner turmoil is within us and always. This will makes us grow into colored stones.

I wish to know what will happen.

Here is my take, in this reality everything ends at some point. That said, chances are I will end before the world does, just like multitudes of people before me and likely after me. The odds are not in favor of any of us, here right now, being here when the final curtain comes down.

Although, someone has to win the lottery eventually,...

What we don't know is how they come to pass and if anything, or anybody has survived those in the past.

The greatest mass extinction of all time was at the end of the Permian age. Lots of things died out, but life continued. Take the humble brachiopods. They made it through the mass extinction at the end of the Permian as did many things.

As far as 2012 is concerned - it's a lot of nothing. No end of world. No transformation or new age poo-ba event. It's going to be the same old - same old.

Meh firm believer in Nostradamus theories so my take is EOW=3786 or 3797.
However a possible time of great strife: 2012ish to 2016...just saying.

What is your take on 'the end of the world'?

I'm sick of people wanting it to happen.

The end of the world in what way? The full on destruction of the Earth or just the extinction of us humans?

If you mean our extinction I think it likely that we will either kill each other off as resources begin to dwindle or survive until evolution and technology has caused speciation and we become a new species. Course none of us will be alive for any of that but its fun to speculate.

As for the full on destruction of the Earth, I doubt that will ever happen. It possible an asteroid or planetary collision, perhaps even our Galaxy colliding with another, could deform the Earth sufficiently to deem it "destroyed". Honestly its been here 4.5 Billion years there's no reason to think we don't have another 4.5, at least until the sun blows up

I like doomsday scenarios as speculation and science fiction but when they start gaining followers I look at them as a cult or money making scheme. Especially when we're dealing the pseudoscientific phenomenon surrounding 2012. Even modern day Mayans admit there's no doomsday on the way. To me its a scam and the BSers who've perpetrated it are incredibly persuasive.

People have been using the "paranormal" and "prophetic" to con others out of money for ages and ages. Just look at Nostradamus, that scam artist is still popular to this day.

You want to know exactly what I think may happen in the next coming years?

Thats a tough one b/c I am old school and I remember Y2K so my rational senses will say nothing is going to happen. However the part of me that does not remember Earth having as many natural disasters as has been reported in these past YEARS says we are screwed.
I've had EOW dreams my entire life that hang on with me.
The water dreams stick out. For on occasion I've had a dream of black water, and once I remember dreaming of the top of a building sticking out of a sea.

Usually I disregard these dreams and chalk them upto my fear of drowning, movies, and or tv documentaries.

The latest(1 mth ago) dream: I died. I'll tell you what I remember. I remember being lined up by soldiers with guns, and there being a sort of fog. I was very skinny; knealing execution style next to someone whose face I could not see. The fog got thicker and I see a soldier screaming to the other soldiers to leave and suddenly I have a hang glider. I tried to fly further up in the sky but I kept falling. When I took my last breath, I opened my eyes. I think I died of smoke inhalation but I'm not sure b/c this is a actual first. I've never died before in any of my dreams.

Maybe this means WWIII is on its way.

Astronomers have told us that around 5 billion years from now, our Sun will enter a Red Giant phase, and expand dramatically, eventually consuming and baking the inner solar system. On the smaller scale, as a previous poster mentioned, we know that mass extinctions occur on Earth in geologic time, the most detrimental being the Permian Triassic extinction event (pinpointed to 251.4 Million years ago), when an extensive range of volcanoes opened up in what is now siberia, dumping enough sulphur dioxide and co2 into the atmosphere to kill off over 90% of all species. Those volcanoes produced lava flows large enough to cover an area comparable to what is now modern day europe. We have yet to endure another catastrophic event on this scale, not even the meteor impact that killed the dinosaur in the yucatan peninsula can compare with that extinction. But as bad as the Permian Triassic event was, enough animal and plant lineages survived, eventually leading to the diversity we see today. Its also worth noting that it is in the wake of these mass extinctions that we see some of the largest evolutionary radiations and diversification of new species. Aside from the sun inevitably consuming the Earth, it is difficult to imagine an Earth-destroying event.

Maybe it was just a dream?

But you do realize that there are people experiencing that kind of things right now? There are a lot of countries that are deep in conflict and chaos this very moment. The thing is that we're so used to our seemingly perfect lifestyles that we completely forget about the rest of the least fortunate population.

They don't have to wait for some vague 2012 predictions, a lot of people are living in hell right now.

Mine is pretty much Biblical..straight out of Revelation.

The world economy will go bust. There will be wars and rumors of wars. A confederacy of Islamic nations will try to invade Israel, Israel will stand alone...its allies waiting on the sidelines. Israel will defeat them.

There will be massive earthquakes and natural disasters. there will be signs in the heavens like spirals, massive solar flares, and mens hearts will tremble with fear.

The oceans will be poisoned, death of animals, fish, man.

Massive warfare, followed by hunger, disease, and death.

The world will cryout for a new and decisive leader, and he will emerge.

Europe will be reunited. A global government will then emerge, with 10 economic regions. All will switch to an electronic currency, followed by a mark.

The fundamentalists religions will not take the mark and will be persecuted and executed and proclaimed terrorists.

A comet/asteroid/cosmic body will crash into the earth wiping out 1/3 of all mankind... probably the north/south americas...everyone else is mentioned at the end but N/S America.

Chinese launch invasion of MidEast by way of Afghanistan/Iran/Iraq...the United Europe/NWO heads SE to meet them at Meggido...the Islamic armies go north and all thre collide at Harmma geddon...yup, Armegeddon...then the end comes.

Relax everyone, the world is not going to end anytime soon.

It seems every decade or at least every century, some doom and gloom end of the world prophecy arises.

Even if a comet or asteroid were to be on a collision course with us, the US government would unite with the rest of the world to fight this catastrophe, and believe me, the US has a few tricks up their sleeve. They have space vehicles that make the spaceshuttle look like a Ford Fiesta.

and remember, it doesn't matter WHEN the world ends, .... people allow their lives to end, one day at a time, becoming slaves to their beleif's and routines. We must cherish everyday, love eachother, make the best of this, .... so even if the world did end one day, ... we could face it, knowing we gave everything we had, ... and we lived lifetimes in each day. and when our time came, we would take it with poise, free from fear and regret.

to the future !!
