Dutch media report he is already arrested by Interpol, so he isnt on the run (not anymore at least)

It got a lot of attention because of the circumstances: People were mad that an American girl was presumably killed in a resort area and despite some pretty decent evidence, no charges were ever brought. Also, her mother---a well spoken and attractive woman--kept the spotlight on the crime. I think the case symbolized the fact that even if you let your daughter go on a senior field trip with chaperones, there is no guarantees about life. We all pictured the same thing happening to our own children. I think it scared middle-class folks and reiterated that "bad things can happen to good people."

Also, the fact that Van Der Sloot's father was a judge who seemed to protect him (and maybe, in fact, help him) outraged alot of people, because it's another example of us regular folks against the elite.

Lets just ask one simple question to those defending him, shall we?

If he didn't have "anything" to do with this new case, why did he flee?

Yeah, that's what I thought. Kinda like OJ and the slow car chase, huh?

Innocent people don't run and hide.

Real life soap operas in a slow season for talk shows...that is why so many stories are over sensationalized as it is all for ratings, and the networks claim the ratings go up because people have an insatiable appetite for sex/drugs/murder...

It appears that it is still very much a hot topic here at ats as well....

I totally believe he's guilty, back then and certainly now. But, playing devils advocate for a moment... I sometimes wonder what happens psychologicly to people who are falsely accused of crimes, do they ever become the monsters people mistook them for? I see it happen in little ways with people, like people get a bad reputation and then they feel they might as well act that way. I figure it could happen with rape, and maybe even murder. Don't know enough psycholgoy.

Well, I disagree with the idea of us regular guys as Natalee Holloway and her class did more than most high school seniors ever do, and that is that they went to Aruba to casinos for an after school excursion. That is in itself more than being one of us regular guys...very elitist and unusual. In California, it is big deal to go to Disneyland...but in Alabama, it has to be Aruba...some regular class...HA!

Wow, just saw this, apparently he was active in the online poker communities and people knew his handles, and knew some of what he'd made in the alst couple years. Thats one way to travel the world and make a virtual living, play online poker.

Hey Dumbass, You are about as dumb as apparently Paul Holloway and others...thanks for the video and the news story from Thaindia. I have always been suspicious of news stories but this one is really annoying me now. So Paul died on a tennis court...Very, very interesting. And Joran gives a new story again but with a variation on the same old story and a new twist.

I have to admit this story is hitting very close to home. I just sat next to a kid yesterday who approached me while riding a city bus...He needed help...I saw all of a sudden the resemblance between him and Joran Van der Sloot, except that Joran has a much better haircut. But the resemblance is striking. I now understand why it is that any girl would be taken in by Joran. He is very deceptive in his appearance. He looks as sweet and nice as can be, and obviously is very charming. So did the kid on the bus, and he had a hardluck story that would melt your heart, but it was a bit of overkill and too practiced, as if he had done it one too many times...I was highly suspicious of him...

so I am puzzling over the coincidence of this meeting with the kid who looks like Van der Sloot, his story, and now the news of Joran being in Peru seen with another girl who ends up dead, but not buried or dumped, but apparently in her hotel room...Odd coincidence that Joran is the last person seen with her...is he becoming another Ted Bundy type?

we cannot consider innocent or guilty yet...but the oddity of his presence with another dead victim is more than any one can think innocent.

What is it with Joran? Will he plead insanity if brought to trial? Because all his variety of confessions make him sound insane as anything...

and finally, has he been caught? or is that a rumor too?

I predict he will take the cowards way OUT and kill himself.

The long arm of Interpol is out and they will get him dead or alive.

What a sick person!!!!!
