Obviously it was individuals that carried out the 9/11 attacks, not a religion. However, I can't help but get a sick feeling in my stomach to know that some of the unidentified plotters of that attack will someday be praying right there...and feeling accomplished.

It's just salt in my wound.

I agree, this is awesome. Solidarity is the key

I say this is 'bs'! What a slap in the face to every American that died there, and their families!

Is it being built in honor of the muslim terrorists that did it? Was there that many Islamic people in the building there that day? Enough to base building a frikken mosque there??? Come on! Isn't anyone listening to the American people anymore? Isn't this America anymore?

And why may I ask, is it okay and pc for all Americans to tolerate, accept and welcome all nationalities and religions, and we are not even able to worship our OWN religions now! Say anything about being proud to be of the white culture, and you are told you are racist. Now, we have an Islamic mosque being built right on the spot where Islamic extremists have killed many Americans. Almost like they claimed that spot!

Maybe a building where all three major faiths can come together and realize that they all stem from the same place. With a big statement in front of it that reads, "God Does Not Want Us Killing Each Other Over Him".

That might be cool.

Good idea, but how about a center for Enlightenment or Renaissance, and exhibitions about Erasmus, Da Vinci and Kant? I know NY is a liberal place, but how about more progressive and enlightened ideas?. Liberals may be tolerant, but too much tolerance attracts intolerance and intolerant ideologies.

A seed of Peace? More like a seed of Poison.

They are only doing this to say, See how easy Americans forget? To slap the USA in the face. To say, We will get our foothold into your community and issue our Shariah Law and slap your Constitution around some more you infidel Pigs!

Really people.. The Normal Muslim does not want peace, but to conquer the USA for Alla. It's taught to them in their religion.. No.. Not the extremist one.. the tame one.

It's only a small handful of Muslims who oppose this learning and they are treated like dirt by their peers.

Stop listening to the propaganda they want a sleeping America to believe and study their tactics. They have done this to every peoples they seek to conquer.

Just about the most ignorant thing ever uttered on ATS, and that's saying something.

So the guys over at the gyro shop are planning to take over America with delicious food and polite service?

Sneaky restaurateurs!

No offense to you John, but if that is the case, then it would require the populous to convert to Islam. If that is what people choose to do on their own accord, then there really isn't anything that can or should be done about it. We all have the freedom of religion and if Americans choose to convert, then that is their right.

I don't foresee Islam becoming the prevalent religion in America, but if it does...then it shows that our 1st Amendment is alive and well.

I just want to know what has happened to common decency and discretion. Surely the people who want to build this mosque understand that building it really close to ground zero will be offensive to a lot of other Americans. Understanding that, why insist on building two blocks from ground zero - why not four or six. What is so important to them about this particular site?

It's like taking an enemy line in war and raising your flag to show your enemy what ground you have just gained. Building a mosque there may be legal under law but taken in the context of 911, (an act of holy war) it's immoral.

Expect the poop to hit the fan once it's erected.

I have to say I hadn't really thought of it that way. That idea makes the whole thing even more upsetting. And I have to agree about the poop hitting the fan - I would advise them to purchase property insurance.

A few points of levity, repeated from the other thread of the same topic because I think it's needed:

1) Freedom to do only what is tasteful to the majority flies in the face of the word freedom, especially when it comes to government.

2) I grow tired of paying for wars to "protect our freedoms" when so many Americans have been eager to piss away those freedoms (or freedoms that would threaten groups they don't belong to).

3) Maximum freedom should always be the goal of the people as it's the government's goal to limit it through force.

4) I viewed 9-11 in NYC with my naked eyes and smelled the burning "materials" personally and I don't feel resentment about them building a place of worship there.

The righteous indignation is garbage. Nothing more.

5) The petty and thoughtless points being bandied about these days smacks of lack of thought and/or overly emotional responses rather than principled views. Much of what I see (in general) amounts to political vomit. It makes me ill to look at it sometimes.

Peace
KJ

Its a huge joke to American decision makers.

Why would you pit anything up that resembles religion!!???

A Mosque? What the hell is going on in these peoples minds?

Did you Americans know that your official motto is "IN GOD WE TRUST"

Does everyone else know that the god referred too is the Christian god.

It does not say "In Allah we trust"

Its New York....the pride of American Cities. You can not put a "mecca" at ground zero. It would be like turning over your American beliefs to the muslim faith.

NO religious memorial or building should be put up there. Let alone a damn Mosque.

You need to make a stand over this...if a mosque gets erected there then you will lose a large chunk of your "American" way of life. Its an insult to all those who died.

Cant let it happen. Its unfair and unjust.

And those in favor of a Mosque are nothing but terrorists at Heart and someone from the government should trace these people down which I hope they are doing.

Anyone who supports a Mosque being built there is the same as those who brought the buildings down in the first place. Home grown terrorists!!

Watch Out For Them. Terrorists by nature!!

Haterproof, Aggie man, All I can tell you is study their past history, their tactics, and what their religion does tech them.

As individuals, no, the salami sales man on the corner may not want to kill anyone, but he has his role to play. It takes years of having a foothold in a country, and making them accustom to their laws and ways, breaking them down little by little. before they can infiltrate a society enough to have the control over it that they want. They all have their roles to play for the bigger picture that may be years ahead. They are happy to be this small part for Allah demands this and it's supposed to be done so subtlety that you don't see it happening. It's designed that way.

Your believing that this could never happen.. but they are a patient people and lie in wait for many generations if need be. Study their tactics historically. You will see. They want nothing better right now for you to believe this cannot happen.

I agree with you. People can't feel the 'gentle nudges' of our government trying to gently guide us into a particular way of thinking, and I for one, am kinda getting tired of being told what I can or can't believe, or stand for. Where are all the freedoms that we are 'pissing away'? The ones that we keep sending our sons and daughters to fight for? Because I keep seeing more and more freedoms being taken away from us! Religious freedom? Please! Our children get kicked out of school for praying now! Sounds free to me! NOT!

This is an abomination! I blame the dems for this and there ridiculous political correctness. They are going to get our children killed! Islam is a evil religion that enslaves women and children, the fact that it is in a country that values freedom is disgusting!

Well ... it is your right to blame anyone you wish to.

However I'm not sure what "the dems" have to do with a NYC Community Board. The one person who has the most power to stop this if he wanted to is the Mayor, and he's a Republican.

False flag my ass. But that isn't the point. It is established that Muslim terrorists took control of these planes and crashed them into the WTC. Now to make this simple. 3000 americans died that day, murdered by Muslim terrorists. And people think its a good idea to put up a Mosque in that exact spot? You think that leads to unity? How stupid can you be? Most Muslims are not bad people. But these terrorists were Muslim and horrible human beings. A mosque has no business there.

Would there be an outrage if a white supremacists group set up an office at the Williamsburg slave auction block? Yes.

Sharia law says that a non muslim is worth half of a muslim in terms of diyya.

Being that 71% percent of Muslims agree with the strict application os Sharia law, and that law states that each of the 3k people that were murdered were only worth half of what their murders were. I'm sorry but you speak equality and the Muslim religion doesn't promote equality.

This simply shows zero respect to everyone who was murdered by these terrorists.

Gallup polled over 50,000 Muslims across 10 countries and found that, if one defines radicals as those who deemed the 9/11 attacks "completely justified," their number constitutes about 7 percent of the total population. But if one includes Muslims who considered the attacks "largely justified," their ranks jump to 13.5 percent. Adding those who deemed the attacks "somewhat justified" boosts the number of radicals to 36.6 percent.

So 36%+ thought that the murder of 3000 innocent civillians in a terror attack was somewhat justified. That tells me all I need to know about building a mosque there. And just for reference I am not prejudiced against any religon in particular. I think they all have their failings. I simply think this action is inappropriate.

Comparing white supremacist offices to a mosque shows very little understanding on your part. On par with comparing a mosque in New York to an American flag in Hiroshima.

I think if we step out of our emotional feelings and study the signal it will send to muslims acros the globe....we may see it indicates

1/ The USA is not the Great Satan that its militant muftis have preached about to the muslim masses.
2/ That the USA is a tolerant nation , that is not trying to eradicate Islam

3/ That the same muslim extremists killing Muslims in Pakistan right now are the REAL ENEMY OF MUSLIMS, that they are the new facist thugs of the world, that the Americans sre trying to offer a fig in peace, not a war in blood.

4/ That if they migrate to the West they may be safe and in refuge from the Jihad Islamists.

5/ This wouldnt be allowed in Israel I doubt? on a sight of Jewish significance ,but as has been said , the USA is and can be seen to be a beacon of tolerance and sanity, to the world and not judged a fully fledge ally of Israel to the Muslim masses.
It would be easy to build some sort of American Hero shrine, and perhaps a shrine to the victims should be inscribed on the wall of the super mosque?
This would be the ultimate mutual concession? and a recognition by the Muslims that the Fundamentalist sections of their faith....breed fanaticism?

I feel if the mosque is built a memorial has to incorporated.
Other members have brought up the idea of having seperate Muslim,Jewish worship buildings on the site.
BUt how about a single multi faith super temple?
Where people of all faiths worship and listen to common tributes to th e one true God?
There are parts of the Bible that all the three faiths believe in, imagine Jews,Christian,Muslims, side by side, no one sneering at the others inferiority or uncleaness.
just middle of the road faithers willing to honour their God by rejecting the Devils Pride.

You are repugnant to even the most moderate, but if you want to call a former enlisted infantry Marine (me) a terrorist for espousing the freedoms I'd probably say you love, then you have a lot of growing up to do.

I would destroy you in any formal debate, and encourage you to test me on that.

You won't though, and I don't need to say why. We all know.

Peace
