I fit the "has a SSN issued in a state I didn't live in" portion. I was born in Michigan (300 series) and lived in Michigan until the age of 24. When I was 16 (1984) I visited my grandma and aunt in California for the summer. I took a short term job doing grocery checking and had to get a social security number. So mine starts with a 54X even though I technically didn't live in California.

Well, that isn't right. I lived in Florida my whole life and mine is 591 for the first 3.

I think the SS office was more screwed up government.

Regarding your post to check ones SSN with the table on the SS web site. Mine and my wife's check out with the state we were born in as Americans!

Internet giant Google today was hushing up the new dispute over President Obama's strange Social Security number by diverting searches for news reports on the issue to unrelated stories about Elena Kagan, oil, Tampa and the Federal Reserve.

The actual story, posted on WND.com, explained how two private investigators – working independently – are asking why Obama is using a Social Security number set aside for applicants in Connecticut while there is no record he ever had a mailing address in the state.

Under a Google news search for "President Obama Social Security number," the top four results all quoted, "By Jerome R. Corsi Two private investigators working independently are asking why President Obama is using a Social Security number set aside for applicants…"

However, the first link is to Politico's story about "Gay rights central to Elena Kagan fight," the second links to Politico's "Senate clears measure to audit Federal Reserve" story, the third links to a Politico story about the GOP plans for a convention in Tampa in 2012, and the last links to a Politico story about "Oil executives play pass the buck."

Google spokesman Jake Hubert told WND that it appeared to be a "bug in the snippets." He said the company was looking into it.

Not being in the US.. but is anyone able to check the following:

If Obama was working for the CIA (some mention of this in other threads),

are there any CIA Departments located in Connecticut?

If so, they could have pulled out a SS number from the local area database (maybe a deceased persons), and assigned it to him?

Just a random thought, but anyone know if Obama applied to Yale? Perhaps they required an SSN for the application and he got one for the purpose while in New Haven? The timing might be about right ...

I dunno. This is such crazy stuff since Obama was elected. Many things uattenaswered. However, he doesn't have to answer them, hence, he doesn't answer them.

But I think back to GWB. He had a DUI. It was expunged from his record. Yet, we, many of us, read and heard about the DUI. How does that happen?

I sought out a job in the U.S. Army, and I answered truthfully the questions I was asked. I mentioned, yes, I was arrested when I was 19 for a silly crime that hurt no one. What happened? The city I had the arrest in, had expunged my record. Good, yes? Nope. Because I had already spoken of it and I was not qualified for the mission. lol If only I had kept my mouth shut. lol

So we know a hidden secret about GWB. But we don't know crap about Obama. His grades in college? Nope. GWB's grades in college? Pretty bad. And, yet, his were higher, slightly, than that other clown, John Kerry.

Obama? Nothing.

I want to believe Obama is smart, and he is qualified to be POTUS. I actually believe his is an American citizen and eligible to be the POTUS.

But I want to know why the secrecy? Why we can know all the miserable failures of GWB. his driving record, his terrible management of a business, etc. But we don't know much about Obama?

Yeah, he went to college, but we don't know about those years there except, he felt he needed to embrace his blackness, and he did coc aine. What did he study? What was his grade average? I know when I apply for a job, the employer wants to know where I went to college, what my grade point average was, and can I prove it. And if I said, well, I was just embracing my redneckedness, and doing meth, I would not be considered for the job.


Seriously, folks. There are too many unanswered questions about Obama. Hell, Miss America undergoes much more thorough investigations to hold a silly title and a crown for a year.

Shouldn't we know all about our POTUS? Shouldn't everyone know all about the "leader of the free world" and the "most powerful man on earth"?

Just not true, sorry. My mom still works in her sixties as she has all her life without being on the books. Do you know what that means? In 2010, she is working without providing a SSN. It happens.

I was born and raised in Wash state, i have 534 for the first three digits, matches the table. My wife naturalized in FL, has 539 for the first three digits, again part of the Wash state number block. My daughter was born in FL, has 590, part of the FL block. All good and well.

However...

My son's were born in 1992 & 1994 while we were in JAPAN, the births registered with the US Embassy. Both were assigned 603, part of the Calif number block, even though me nor my wife had never set foot in Calif before, up to that time. We did eventually move to Calif in 1996.

So apparently if you're born overseas and the birth is registered with the US embassy, you can be assigned a random SSN?

hmmmm very interesting concept/info.

Makes sense for the embassy to do it and they wouldn't be able to control what office the info was delivered to (Unless the CA office does them all or a certain pre-determined area (Pacific Side of things, Conn may have handled the Atlantic side. But that wouldn't right for this issues then.

So confusing but I am sure we'll get to the bottom of his SS#, what about all the other ones he allegedly possesses(ed)?

You're not the first person in this thread who has had trouble reading that table.

I don't know what's going to come of this whole thing with Obama, probably nothing. But he seems to enjoy feeding the conspiracy theorists by keeping his records all locked up, when he could just as easily release records and answer their questions.

I don't know what he's hiding, but it sure seems to be something (and no I don't still beat my wife, in answer to the question "Do you still beat your wife?" )

I did not say she did not have one. I said she has been working just fine for decades without providing it to the employer. Yes as in "off the books." It is actually something that ran in the family for a while. I come from tavern owners on both sides and as recently as 6 years ago my father was still hiring people by meeting them, letting them work and earn tips, then paying them a little cash on top. That was it. Yeah, he had some tax issues and I am not defending that kind of thing. I am just saying that your claim that it does not happen is false.

As was previously pointed out:

The Area Number is assigned by the geographical region. Prior to 1972, cards were issued in local Social Security offices around the country and the Area Number represented the State in which the card was issued. This did not necessarily have to be the State where the applicant lived, since a person could apply for their card in any Social Security office.
