Im not sure some people are understanding the concept. This has nothing to do with Facebook, per say. It is not intergrating Facebook with ATS.

It just an idea using the premis of Facebook. Nowhere would you have to reveal your personal "off ATS" persona. Its just a new spin to the current profile page that many people use already. And its not like you are forced to reveal more than you want to. I dont get the "they are watching us and this will be used against us".

And im sure there would be an opt out option. You would not be required to use it. But I am sure there are a log of members who would love something like this. I think its a great option for those who chose to use it.

I think a rudimentary screenshot of what "tinbook" would look like might be helpful to those like myself who don't have a fb/ms account.

Would it be similar to the atsmedia profile page?

Will people poke me?

I have a bit of a weird question.
I only used facebook because I really liked a few games or apps as most people call it.
Would this have applications for games??

It would be cool to have games where we might have to solve conspiracies or something of that nature.

I double this. I have FB, but only because everyone else is on it and I can't convince them to go elsewhere. I like to keep ATS and FB seperate.

IN all actuallity, I wouldn't use tinbook either.

Bill, I can see your desire for integration with FaceBook. It would allow for more incoming guests that may become members and it also removes some of the stigma of "Conspiracy Theorist" from the public perception.

However, it doesn't really. From a sociological standpoint there will always be pariahs. In Japan, with a homogenous people, the outcasts were the descendants of garbage collectors. There are many examples on many websites where conspiracy theorists and even ATS in particular are looked down upon. Facebook will not change those perceptions. It may actually bring in more work for the moderators as FaceBook users are generally a younger and less mature (prone to pranking and general mayhem like cyber-bullying for example).

Psycho-babble out of the way. An internal system (TinBook, BlueBook, etc.) is not a bad idea to incorporate to the profile system provided it remains a members-only feature for access (no bot crawlers). Simple explanation: no one on ATS wants to details of the only part I have been offered in a professional movie (it was indeed a porno--that I did turn down). But by the same token, many would not want all aspects of ATS postings, readings, etc. Released to employers, casual relationships, etc.

Best implementation would be a link from our current profile to see updates to threads, direct replies to postings, Friend and Foe lists activities in threads. Uploads to ATS media portal. Perhaps even affiliations such as ATS Live Studio as regular listeners, callers on different shows.

Sure I can do some of that now with what we have. Clicking on SkepticOverload's profile shows me that this is your most recent thread, and that this is your last post outside this thread. Handy information if I wanted to keep up with you opinions on matters. "TinBook (BlueBook--which sounds a little better) would automate the process of daily research/update of a friend's activities. Or if your were a Respected Foe (the original intent) see if you have merited more intelligent responses on a subject that I felt you knew little about. Maybe even change you to a Friend as a result.

To sum up (as I do ramble on) leave FaceBook to teenagers and the NSA. Make ATS internal despite what minor gains could be made in membership. Those researching alternate topics are directed here by Google well enough. Those that like it here do become members. At least that is how it worked for me.

You sure we wouldn't be just setting up CTers for a categorical profiling by the ptb? However have to say I love the 'Tinbook' idea, now thats creative.

Conspiracy Book

So the question is, if we were to launch such a new site/service, would you use it. And if you did, would it cause you to abandon Facebook?

If this is designed to be something similar to FB than I would not use it (highly unlikely to never) but I do reserve the option to change my mind once I see the feature, should it turn out that I'm envisioning it's function incorrectly.

You got my vote for the "TinBook".
If facebook is so bad why help them.
I love the idea of starting your own version, it might even become quite popular wen people know they only share what they want on it.

I dont like facebook and what they stand for and i do not use it.
But i like ATS and how you run this place and an ATS style "TinBook" would be a great addition to the internet.
I might even start a profile on it

In this context then, i would say that the ATS Media portal would serve perfectly. It is already set up that way, cosmetically. if they can integrate the passwords between ATS, BTS, and Media, then it really doesn't matter if someone doesn't like it. I rarely use ATS Media (i just don't create threads any more, since it is so much trouble to move images to ATS Media before i can share them), so if i choose to not socially interact, it would be no different than today.

It isn't the FB concept that is bad, it is the way they are executing it now that is. I would expect lawsuits to eventually correct that. In China, a person can be reduced to "information". That isn't American, though. I don't expect it to stand over here.

When it comes to facebook,id like to keep myself out of it. Due my work at a general basis i would at all times try to be "hidden". I would not join through facebook.

The subjects i connect within ATS has nothing to do with Consp theories, but basically facts and relative subjects due my general work and lifestyle.

You are doing a good job on the site, thank you very much for holding this site up and running.

It is a good idea to add social networking like "tinbook" to ATS, but just personally I wouldnt in any way contribute to any part of ATS or ATS at all if direct links were made between the two, as such so that if you were logged into any part of ATS/BTS etc it was linked to FB.

The creation of, funding of, management of and monitoring of the entire FB site reads like a dream site for any future totalitarian, or current data mining and monitoring agencies that we know currently exist anyhow.

Anyone who uses ATS and also FB and is not concerned by the relationship building, tracking and profiling abilities of this site (FB) obviously spends way too much time sending Hugs and creating thousands of "fake" friends, when they have had no meaningfull discussion or debate with those people, than reading the Historical information available on ATS about Agencies, Governments and such like in the past, and current abilities practises and uses of such information by 3 letter organisations etc.

To be honest the integration of Google search into ATS which by default logs all IP's and the search terms used was nearly a little to far for me, as there is no alternative on the site, and the further integration into facebook to would make ATS the ultimate site due to nature of topics, numbers of visitors and content, for many members to be potentially in political or even physical harm in the future, or even could be used to support any claims of being an "Conspiracy" nutter as recent proposed laws in the US and the drive by Psychiatrict Governing bodies to include this type of material as an identifiable trait of those with "mental Illness".... real danger lies in this for the members in future years, differant countries etc, never mind the social or job prospects being curtailed by any ability to done now to check FB for peoples profiles etc...

If anyone thinks they apply for a job and HR dont check their FB page first they need to wake up a bit, same for further education so imagine the amount of use it is under from less obvious monitors!

(I realise Skeptic said there would be no link between the two as such between profile here and FB profile, but I wouldnt trust those at FB considering who set it up, what organisation funded it etc etc, so matter how hard they tried I dont think this garuntee is 100%)

Also what as members would we have as an safety net if our profiles (I dont have an FB one) were linked in the future as ATS came under new management, the three amigo's get older (some members are young and will obviously outlive the amigos etc), or it is closed down, hacked or sold.... the nature of some of the topics, posts and such like, with the changing world as shown is to grave imho to even consider any link between the two, even if the risk is small, the risk is historical, growing and could include the safety, financial welfare or life opportunities of members who may say something on here at 16-20 forget all about it and bite them in their 30's or 40's....

Just my sc and thanks even if I dont agree on this for trying to improve again ATS etc.

Kind Regards,

Elf.

I would absolutely avoid using the above mentioned proposed expansion of ATS in the same way that I avoid aids, herpes, and VD.

I have no interest in participating in social networking sites, and believe that ATS involvement in social networking sites would cheapen the overall message and work being done not only by the ATS company but also it's voluntary members.

If you end up pushing through with this social networking expansion, please make sure that the default membership setting is to not be involved with it. In other words, if someone wants to participate, they need to consciously and behaviorally "turn on" the feature themselves.

Thanks for the announcement and consideration of membership viewpoints.

TINBOOK! You don't need Facebook, and who on this site wants to be profiled and raped for personal data? I don't want to be inundated with stupid requests for games and BS while getting my ATS on.... I think you would lose members. You would probably lose me, and I love this site!

We're a proud independent bunch here, and we should have our own community. We deserve it, and you have better taste and sensitivity towards your community. That's my 2 cents....Thanks for asking us!

I go for the conspiracy book. I have a FB account I use to keep in touch with friends and play the games..lol...yes i play those silly games!

But, it would be awesome to have the conspiracy book to tie us all together, I dont have many friends i talk to about these things so it would be cool to have a site like that where everyone can share information about things.

One of the items on the list has been a long-anticipated increase in social networking integration via an official Facebook "fan" page and various related tools.

And although SO has reservations about FB, he is throwing the idea open to ATS members.

I have a face book account mostly to keep in touch with friends ETC, started using it a lot more recently for the exact same reason I come here, its more personal though, I have friends who are ATS members on Face book.

I have to say this though Bill some time ago I was about to make a thread with information about Montauk, very much like Williamonesac, and I got some hassle from two ATS members well ex ATS members over my intentions, and that is what concerns me, because it went beyond just me, my Daughter got several messages as well as my wife, so much so my wife hated the fact I came here because of what happened, it was around the time of your get a spine thread, it was dealt with and didn't have to involve ATS Staff.

Don't get me wrong there where no threats as such, but it was pretty scary for us, it ended up with me having a quick chat with William to compare feelings about Montauk etc, and was decided he had said all that could have been really, so I dropped the idea.

As long as the ATS part of it cant be linked to the real us, I don't mind so much as I have nothing to hide, others have nothing to hide either, but want to keep this part of their lives private away from say friends and Family.

ATS does deserve something like a networking aspect, and many want it, but the stuff which gets peoples backs up needs to be left here, so maybe a much firmer T&C if it goes ahead (just saying that will have some screaming control) its a brilliant idea, would we be able to use our Nick Names and keep the real World where it already is? like Myspace there are groups on there I am a member of and they are well run mostly.

I am sure you will do what is best for the Majority, maybe the more personal approach will help calm down a few hot heads, I'm for it

Conspiracy book sounds awesome to me.

I think it's good to get ATS out there more mainstream, but FB is way 'too mainstream'.

If it were me, I would go for the conspiracy book, and look at the options again down the track, maybe in 1yrs time.
