I think it is very annoying that you can ask or say anything about ufos or conspiracies and people will answer in a heartbeat but when it comes to something more realistic and factual like science not many people reply with input, an answer or anything at all.
The more this happens I lose faith in ats and consider it to be a phase for people who rush into wanting to know about ufos and leave a month later like it's a fad and I don't enjoy that.

I personally am a fiend for science and wish that there was a way to bring more to the scientific community here on ats.
Any good ideas anybody? Maybe an interesting colab article involving a top 10 like what was done for conspiracy board? It almost hurts knowing people care more about conspiracies and aliens (two theoretical fields that there is no real way to prove without 100% pure legit info) than science on here. It might be just me....I don't know but what can we do?

I feel with you, mate.

The amount of poor information lately, and unscientific misunderstandings, is of increasing concern.

Just hoping it doesn't represent the full segment of the overall population --- those individuals who will be in charge of the World when I'm old and doddering....

I completely agree. It also pains me to see when science is used to disprove a conspiracy and then general response is that scientists cannot be trusted. These people spend years studying and doing research and want to know the truth more than anybody else, but if they don't support a person's conspiracy theory then they are labeled as part of the conspiracy.

From personal experience with the economic end of things.. when one uses factional, rational thought on this site, they are belittled by a scarily large amount of ATSer's to the point where it is difficult to want to get involved..

I can name at least 2-3 people who have left because of that. Almost including myself, but not yet.

Seangkt, I do agree with your comments about science - I also agree with Dr Jacob's comments about UFOs.

"Because few scientists have carefully studied the literature and conducted field investigations, most know pratically nothing about UFOs. Their ignorance of the subject has much to do with their attitudes towards it".

Dr David M Jacobs, Professor of History, Temple University - (UFO Congress paper, 1980).

Perhaps we just need a happy medium of well balanced, well informed, objective individuals?

I'm pretty sure that if moderators worked with some users we could come up with something interesting enough to lure people over here we might get a few more fans.

If people put half as much time into reading and learning science over reading and learning about conspiracies and aliens (useless bits of info that 98% of this websites users will never have the power or even put effort into trying to act towards the government for the conspiracies and cause a change) they would realize that it's not so hard and could even be used in the other arguments. I just don't see people ever doing anything about aliens and conspiracies besides say they exist but we'll never know. We could all focus more on science and find there is more realistic problems that we can control and change.

i agree man and another thing im sick of is all these damn doomsday threads about the stock market and 2012 and nwo

i think we should all start threads about our favorite scientists like carl sagan or richard dawkins maybe thtat will et some attention

UFOs and aliens are different. If I wrote UFO somewhere I didn't mean to.
I think UFO's have earthly explanations but most on this website will instantly say alien.

I put lots of time into the subjects of ufology and conspiracies and the cold fact is is that as far as aliens go ufo's are everybodies arguments and 100 posts a week get responded to every time even though you go into it knowing it is going to be fake. And as far as conspiracies goes. So many people come and research the 9/11 event and blame the government and then what comes after that? Acting out on the government? Nah. Everyone just goes on preaching this is what went down and we think we know it and we'll just continue to live here and fund the government we think kills us.

I don't see why people don't want to put more time into something we can confirm by trial and error, along with experiment and research. Instead everyone puts time into stories that never have a picture just someones word and conspiracies, events that either coincidentally add up or are actually true but either way no one will ever do anything about them.

I personally can say it might be because they come off as being something more fun for the average person to talk about but seriously if we can just come up with one thing to pull people in we might get some awesome people posting in here.

But...but.. those doomsday drinking games are tons of fun!!

Okay seriously back on topic. I enjoy the Science threads. I rarely post because I am a wee bit intimidated, but I do learn a lot.

No one here is scary haha. We all ask questions hoping for answers. The best way to not start conflict is to just ask and understand before assuming and arguing with someone else and you will be fine. Pointing fingers without evidence is a no no, but asking a question is how every scientific study begins.

Seangkt, thanks for the reply and I appreciate the correction -when it comes to the 'alien hypothesis' I agree the verdict is still very far from conclusive but I think it has to be said that the way mainstream science treats the UFO subject is an absolute disgrace.

There are plenty of highly credible UFO incidents out there which remain completely unexplained and perhaps the failure of scientists to actualy address these cases is summed up best by the statement below:

"Most scientists have never had the occasion to confront evidence concerning the UFO phenomenon. To a scientist, the main source of hard information (other than his own experiments' observations) is provided by the scientific journals. With rare exceptions, scientific journals do not publish reports of UFO observations. The decision not to publish is made by the editor acting on the advice of reviewers. This process is self-reinforcing: the apparent lack of data confirms the view that there is nothing to the UFO phenomenon, and this view (prejudice) works against the presentation of relevant data."

Peter A. Sturrock, "An Analysis of the Condon Report on the Colorado UFO Project," Journal of Scientific Exploration, Vol.1, No.1, 1987

Cheers.

I wish you the best of luck. Your main challenge is that hard sciences are no longer taught in our schools. Science classes today consist of defining social issues like Global Warming, Ecology, and some Biology. Science class used to be the place where you learned analytical thinking, now it is a place where you learn a political agenda.

My wife teaches Science for a private school and is allowed to go a little more in depth on subjects like Physics and Chemistry (her Major). Unless somebody goes to College specifically for Majors like Chemistry and Physics or one of the Engineering diciplines it is unlikely that they will have to take a Science class.

The school district in Berkley, California is actually trying to eliminate science from it's cirriculum because too many minorities are having low test scores. In some places the only Chemistry people are exposed to is in the making of meth.

i used to be intimadated too and then i realized all they can do is say.....

exactly all they can do is SAY something

the science and hard facts behind most of the threads on ats are considerably lacking. and ive seen some incredibly stupid threads
there are some incredibly stupid people on ats

so dont worry, speak your mind they cant do anything about it

Great post. I'm here to say that I am a Noob that truly appreciated the efforts in the S/T threads. I first joined ATS for the UFO/Alien stuff but since then I have be finding myself coming more to the dark side of ATS (kidding).

The point of saying anything factual or against some on ATS brings unwanted attention and ridicule appears to be true, HOWEVER, you must push forward and deny ignorance.

There are a ton of people out here that like ATS for all the stuff but UFO/Aliens etc. So, push forward, dig more, research deeper and post it here so we can all gain from it.

The S/T thing even got me going today. I posted one for Science/Medical Tech: www.abovetopsecret.com... about bone regrowth from Stem Cells. See, I'm trying-so I know at least one person is benifiting from it-I hope you think one is worth it. Good day.

I wholeheartedly agree.

If you check my posting history I have started a thread and made numerous posts attempting to figure out and explain UFO propulsion using lesser known physics theories and ideas, namely Extended Heim Theory and the Alcubierre warp drive.

Building an experimental propulsion system based on these theories is something we can do now and would confirm by trial and error whether or not the theories are correct.

Unfortunately I think most people would rather save up their money to buy a new car even though they have one that is less than 10 years old or a slightly bigger flat screen television than gamble some money on an experiment.

I would prefer to say that "there are some incredibly IGNORANT people on ATS."

By IGNORANT I mean lacking knowledge or information on a subject.

I am a science fan.
I was first lured to this site by my interest in advanced aircraft/engineering.
Then you get on to the other subjects.
I find the level of scientific knowledge available to ATS is quite high, its just that people are busy, so catching the attention of those with professional knowledge can be hit or miss.
If you are persistent and can use the search facility you should find that most if not all theories of everything have been postulated on these boards.
