I remember reading an article saying something like: "Experts are still trying to figure out why the whale snapped and killed the trainer" and I immediately did a

Honestly, did they have to ask that question? Shouldn't it be obvious that an imprisoned whale which in the wild would have THE ENTIRE OCEAN to swim in isn't going to be happy especially when its stuck doing tricks day in and day out for a bunch of humans.

And now they want to stone it? Madness. Reminds me of that tragic and horrible footage from when Edison shocked an elephant to death.

Topsy

Sometimes we humans think we're so civilized but when you really look at it we're barely out of the jungle.

Stories like these make me want to come out as complete unabashed anti-christian zealout.

This is the problem with too many posts and threads on ATS; people see a negative story about a certain race, religion or political belief, and they see it as a vehicle to let out all their intolerant, bigoted, vitriolic prejudice against everyone that belongs to that group.

This rather unpleasant sounding story comes from the American Families Association, it is not a joint statement issued by 1.8bn adherents of Christianity !
This is no better than judging all Muslims because of a minority of fanatics, judging all black people because you once had a bad experience walking through the ''ghetto'', or judging all left leaning people because of atrocities committed by communist regimes !
Why bother even coming to this site at all, when these sort of views would be more suitable for the comments section on youtube videos.

I would like to clarify my opinion. This story is only one of the myriad of stories that has made me lose respect for religion. Nothing can make me respect outrageous and fringe veiws from the fanatical right.

With that said, I do have respect for the benevolent believers of religion. There is nothing benevolent about stoning animals, humans or ritualistic killings in the name of God.

Benji, don't put me in a black or white box. I'm far more complex and spiritual than you will give me credit for.

I come to this site particularly for difference of opinion. I respect yours. Just realize others have walked a very difficult and more aged walk than yourself.

I wish only peace for everyone. However, religion is obstructing progress.

Some of these extreme religious groups are the ones that need to get stoned to death. These people are freaks that believe only what there church tells them like little mind controlled puppets. Its BS like this that makes me glad I don't believe and any religion and think its all BS. I cannot figure out why they want to kill a caged animal thats being held against its will and didn't have intentions of killing any of the trainers it was just trying to play with them. A 100-200lb person playing with a 14,000lb animal will always end in serious injury or death.

If the killer whale wanted to kill the trainer it would've been a quick and bloody death the things eat 1,000lb seals for lunch in the wild. These trainers know the risk they put themselves into by swimming with them so its there own fault. Seriously though religion and politics are = Satan. Religion is responsible for more deaths of innocent lives than anything since the dawn of man. I love it when Jehova's Witness's come knocking at my door and I tell them they have 10 seconds to get the "F" off my property or i'm getting my gun.

O, good ole Arianna Huffington. Um did anyone read the original article instead of nibbling on the Huffington bait and hook? While I am in no way defending this group she has taken 2 scripture passages that were in the article and told you that they want to stone the whale. Ummm NO. While I am an agnost, I can see when AH fudges things and spins them. The guy quoted scripture, but does not wish the whale to be stoned.

Quote from original she CONVIENTLEY left out:
"If I were the family of Dawn Brancheau, I'd sue the pants off SeaWorld for allowing this killer whale to kill again after they were well aware of its violent history."

Click on the first green link in her article and read the whole thing. She took things out of context as usual to get a rise. And she thanks you all for participating.

Im thinking we should just get all Biblical right back at them and say sure, and as soon as we can find some people without sin, to cast the stones, we will do it.

(Even though that particular passage wasnt part of the original Bible and was a later addition. they wont know that. They will probably take the "literal word of God" stance.)

Awww. Poor Topsy.

I think the whole trained Elephant, killer whale, dolphin, parrot, chimp, gorilla, etc. thing is cruel. They are too social and intelligent to be kept the way we keep them.

However, we also dont treat humans humanely all the time. We just arent totally there yet as a species.

Agreed, maybe if we learn to treat each other right some progress can finally be made on how we treat animals. I personally think it starts with realizing that fundamentally we are just animals too. Too often people separate themselves as divine or special when if anything our position at the top of the food chain should give us a sense of responsibility, as the first animals to develop consciousness we owe it to ourselves to be better than we are right now.

IMHO ...... God has NEVER stated anything
about stoning animals .
The Old Testament is 50% nonsense .
Seaworld should NOT use whales .
Profit beat commonsense , AGAIN

Wow.

While I agree that AFA asking for the whale to be stoned to death is ridiculous, at this point, I am excited because I think I know what the new South Park episode will be about.

I'm losing my faith in humanity chunk by chunk now.

Welcome to 2010 everyone...... where we still pretend it's the dark ages and act like no progress has been made.

I had to rewrite my post 5 - 10 times because I am so angry that if I express how I wish to torture and kill each AFA member personally if they ever hurt the whale I wold probably be arrested. The audacity of blaming a creature, that is held in captivity, that is being forced to entertain daily, for the death of a human being. Stoning to death? What did the whale do other than follow its instincts. These people are indecent and I would love to spend sometime with them in an isolated soundproof room. I hope the whale will like the little pieces of meat taken out with a potato peeler.

This particular media portal seems to spin their stories to gain more attention (nothing new there then) If true then these religious fanatics are indeed fanatics and should be treated as such.

Stoning an animal that we kept in captivity for 'its own good' and of course did not profit from *cough* seems a little absurd to me.

I think you missed my point on page 2. I said that this was the exact reason why I posted it....but it seems that nobody is listening. The point of this thread was to show how the MSM likes to divide and conquer.

This thread wasn't devised to be a Christian bashing session. It was an exercise in showing what the MSM can do to people by posting something like this. The real issue is the whale and the family of the trainer.

Read between the lines people.

That beautiful animal was acting on its instincts.

I am truly sorry the trainer was killed.

But it would only be humans who stepped in and did that - I am ashamed to belong to the human race.

I am often ashamed to belong to the human race.

What the hell has happened to us? We don't care about anything or anyone - no wonder we are at the end.

Titen, you've reminded me of a true story that happened in Tennesee somewhere around a hundred years ago. Not sure how, but a circus elephant killed someone so they tried the elephant for murder and then hung it. Kingston, TN. Will we ever learn?

Neither the AFA or Huffington Post are the most reputable sources, one is as extreme left as the other is right. In reality there is no way the whale would ever be allowed to be stoned to death. As far as I'm concerned anyone who would point out the ignorance of the AFA comment is just as ignorant for taking it seriously.

What I wonder is why that rogue killer whale was even purchased after killing it's first victim. And also...note the name: KILLER whale. So it killed. Is it a shock?

How do you stone a killer whale? After the first stone hits it, it does a deep dive and that's that. People need to get a life.

My proposal? Free the killer whale, it obviously dislikes captivity and it's captors. Some killer whales may like their life, fine. This one is ready to move on. He's too wild for containment, and yet he did not ask for it.

Of course, freeing the killer whale might also be a death penalty in itself...but he would die free.

Stoning...a primitive and indelicate dispatch. These people want blood vengeance for a wrong they did not suffer...sadists!
