How much bigger comparatively is a 8.3 earthquake to a 7.0? My guess would be around 100 times greater.

8.3 is HUGE.....I hope everyone is ok. This could have devastating effects. Still no main steam coverage on TV.

If the mainstream media completely ignores it, you know there's something going on. Even if there were few casualties, an earthquake of this magnitude only happens so often.

Even if it is the end of the world you might as well go back to sipping your bourbon. There is nothing you can do about the world ending so you might as well raise the percent of bourbon in your blood stream to numb the pain right before we are all swept off of the earth by George Bush HAARP laser thinga majigy.

8.3 is HUGE hopefully there won't be many casualties and the tsunami will be small...

But are there any reports of casualties so far?

I'm reading in chat that there is one confirmed casualty. Most of it is in foreign language so I don't understand what they are stating.

USGS confirms as 8.8 as well, this is crazy.

There was also a 4.1 earthquake here in Cali up north.. Around the same time, and i just looked at the scale for Cali, and there has bee a whole bunch of earthquakes..

maybe it was the british lasers and satellites this time... they'll be the first to send aid, get their troops in and have a real quick foot hold on argentina!!!

Yeah, I was impressed by the 8.3....

8.8 is a whole other ballpark. I really do not think this area is going to come out unscathed from this one.

You need some serious construction designs to keep buildings up during an 8.8 earthquake.

You have to remember this is about 62-65% of a bigger quake than the one that just hit Haiti.

But.... this country has been prepared for quakes like this, especially after the 1960 large one.

YEs it went up to 8.8 Santiago which is the capital of Chile was hit with 7.0, but at the epicenter it was 9.0
