I don't know about anyone else here who all seemed to have jumped on the bandwagon of praising Epic Beard Man for teaching a young punk what's what, but I would LOVE to know what words were exchanged between the two parties involved BEFORE the scope of the video.
Working from end to beginning, I see an older gentleman defending himself after the younger gentleman attacked him physically. Before this, the older gentleman removed himself from the situation. Before that, some words were spoken between the two parties.
The problem is that we are only privy to 90% of the scenario. I want to know the two or three sentences that came before the onset of filming. Because did anyone notice right at the onset of the video:
Young man: *garbled words*
Old man: "No let's get back to this. Stop. How much you charge for a spitshine?"
Young man: "What?"
Old man: "How much you charge for my Stacy Adams? I'm going to a funeral on Friday."
Young man: "D' you hear what I said just now?"
Old man: "Yes"
Young man: "Why do a brother gotta spit shine your shoes?"
Old man: "You offered!"
Young man: "I didn't offer you #."
Old man: "What did you say when you walked by me?" or "Wha'd you just say when you walked by me?"
Young man: "I said why a #in' brother gotta spit shine your shoes?"
Old man: "You don't have to."
Young man: "Why can't a white man spit shine your shoes?"
Old man: "It could be a china-man, it don't matter."
Young man: "Look dude."
Old man: "I ain't prejudiced, what you think I'm prejudiced?"
Young man: "Look, take your ass back up there and get the # outta my face right now."
Old man: "Why you be'in so hostile?"
Young man: "'Cause I'm pissed off."
Looks to me like there was talk of spit-shining his Stacy Adams shoes even before the video started rolling, as evidenced by the old man's words: "No let's get back to this. Stop." right at the onset of the video. Also the young man was actually the first to let it be known that there was a problem brewing and he didn't want to be a part of it by saying: "Look, take your ass back up there and get the # outta my face right now."
It was after both of them couldn't shut up as the older man was leaving that things got out of hand. Did young man get what he deserved? Yes. But with remarks like "China-man" coming from the lips of this older man, it become's immediately apparent that you're talking to someone who was raised in a time when people were viewed and treated differently. It's acceptable for a china-man to be spit-shining shoes in the old man's view. It's acceptable to refer to them as "china-man". Young man saw this and didn't want to deal with it anymore. So he requested with harsh words that the old man leave.
Would you call someone a "China-man" today? It may not be considered overtly racist, but is it part of today's mainstream vocabulary? Think about it.
Again, I want to see the clips from the "cutting room floor" so to speak. I feel like we could learn more from this situation.
It really doesn't matter what the old man said before or after. Words are not physically destructive. I don't care what names he used, or if he used a whole slew of racial superlatives. He did not physically attack the other passenger first. Period. In this world, the law is as such: If someone attacks you physically, you have the right to defend yourself. I am personally part black and have heard racism come at me from both angles...white and black. It really means nothing until the split second that someone is attempting physical harm against you. The Black guy attacked first, therefore, he got his a$$ handed to him by the white guy. And keep in mind, this happened while the black guy was being encouraged by the woman with the camera who STOLE the white guy's bag. END OF STORY.

I rarely watch videos like this because I leaves me with a bitter taste in my mouth that grown men think that acting like this will gain them kudos, respect and a sense of personal power when really all it does is show them up as flotsam easily controlled by the whims and words of others.
Pathetic words and actions from these two wing nuts fed the show and so did the “audience” and is a symptom of what is very wrong with this so called human civilisation.
They were both idiots for thinking that it is cool to act like trash in a public place. I am of the mindset that violence is a very last resort and is something to fall back on when there is a real danger to health and life but these pair of fools took it upon themselves to pander to their respective male egos and let their environment take control of their actions because they felt insulted somehow?
I could not pick up on the whole conversation because the accents are difficult for me to understand but what I did manage to pick out was that these men are far too used to letting their rectums do the talking for them hence the escalation from words to blood leakage – nuff said really.

If you back the behavior of the black guy, then I have serious questions about your ethics.

Yes the black dude is a out of shape drunk 40-50 year
Now to all those other people saying N**** got what he deserved thats their ignorance.

Because that was the sound of his education? I'm not one to bleed over what people type but is English your first language? Moreover, how does your hairstyle make you a gang banger?

I'm in full agreement with everything you typed EvolvedMinistry, that is until your last sentence.
The ONLY part of the black guy's behaviour that I would even consider backing, is when he said "get the # outta my face" and put his shades back on. He was getting angry and didn't want things to get worse. He was doing the right thing, until he lost his cool.
It seems you missed my sentence:

There's no doubt in my mind that the black man struck first. But I understand why someone would get pissed off in that conversation. I also understand what it is to "lose your cool". If anyone backed the black guy's behavior, I'd question their ethics as well. However, although it will definitely not change the fact that the older man was defending himself from an attack, I'm still interested in the missing pieces of the conversation. As I said, we could learn something from it.

Is that really a t-shirt? Can you make one with cornrow's holding his jaw, to say "Old white dude said shut up but I thought he said stand up"?
No, I don't think that is a real t-shirt (yet). Neither is this one.

We don't know... so just saying "He probably said this" or "This probably happened" is pointless.
I think it's likely that EBM said something to him

lol
Try to be consistent. You can't say "My version and your version are irrelevant" ... "He probably said this or this probably happened is pointless" and then proceed with a sentence saying "I think this happened".

Jesus you are getting way to technical on a simple right/wrong matter. I see a man hit a older man. I see a man defend himself. I dont care if because he is a black guy the thread is bigger or people are making racist statements thats on them.
FROM MY PERSPECTIVE the guy got what he deserved. Not for being younger, or black, or whatever. He assaulted someone and they fought back.
Fairly simple if you ask me.

The beginning of the video didn't catch this, but it seems like the whole thing was started by the old white guy who wanted the black guy to shine his shoes for him. You can't really blame the young guy for being pissed off if that is the case.
Sorry but.................................

Well yes...you have a point for sure and I understand it because its logical. However, despite the fact that you told him that he couldn't do that, he just did.

You are right. I should have added that "You can't say [blah blah blah] and then say [blah blah blah] unless you want to undermine your argument and destroy your credibility"
lesson learned.
