I' m from South America and I used to love studying maps as a kid. And I have to admit... In my mind's eye NZ also appeared to the West of Australia. Only not to the North, as some have said. I would even go as far as to say that I have the distinct memory of looking at it on a map. Strange.

What you had is probably a false memory, our memories aren't perfect and we usually fill in the loopholes with things we made up in our mind to complete the whole picture. Are you sure, you didn't confuse the Indonesia archipelago islands with New Zealand?

Exactly.

Which posits the question: which is the right way up?

More land mass at the bottom - kinda makes sense to me

There's no right way up and it would still make sense even if viewed sideways but NZ would still be east (where the sun rises) of Van Diemens Land across the Tasman Sea.

it [ north orientated ] is not the " right " way - but the established way .

this standard came about throught the development of cartography and navigation - NOT because of any adjenda

I'm SO glad this thread is still going. This is the precise way I found ATS. I knew the location was messed up, Aussie etc being way way way farther from the main lands than what maps now show.

Ha, funny seeing this pop up again. I've had a ton of Mandella effect things happen since posting here half a decade ago or so abouts. In a Universe where anything and everything is possible, I definitely believe in time line changes etc.

Hi all,

I think I've found finally a satisfied explanation to this phenomenon and it explains the Mandela Effect as well. It's about parallel universes and it's covered in the book called Convoluted Universe Book 1 by Dolores Cannon so check it out!

Here are some excerpts from the book (chapter Parallel Universes):

"You must understand that ours is not the only universe. Numerous parallel universes exist along side of ours, but because they vibrate at different speeds, they are normally invisible to human eyes."

"Is there ever any chance of a human being crossing over into the other universe? That happens all the time. Many times human beings walking down the street will cross over into another universe. Several of the universes, particularly the ones that lie closest to this one, are so similar as to be practically identical. So sometimes, whenever they are overlapping, people can cross over to the other universe temporarily and then cross back without destroying their matrix. It's the permanent transition that's so very rare, as with the animal. And many times they will be in another universe and they'll think, 'Gee, I sure thought that this-and-such had happened.' And someone says, 'Well, no, that has never happened. You're just making that up.' And then a few days later they mention this again and someone else says, 'Well, yes, you're right, that did happen.' Well, during that period of a few days when everyone was saying it had not happened, they were in another universe where it had not happened."

"Could you give me an idea of what they might experience? Yes. For example, a person is walking one day and they notice this tree. It has a particular shape that is distinctive, and particularly beautiful. And they walk along the same place a week or so later, and they discover that the tree is no longer there. Or perhaps the shape is radically different, but it's nothing they could really prove one way or the other. It's just a small thing like that, but it's different from what was before. What happened is that at the point where the tree was, it had intersected with another universe and the effect either altered the tree or destroyed its matrix to where it ceased to exist. Or perhaps it exists in altered form in the other universe now."

Funny to see this thread. I was playing a game the other day called Plague Inc and I noticed that New Zealand was off to the South East of Australia. For a moment I thought that they'd got the location wrong, because I was sure that was to the North West. Obviously I must have remembered wrong, or was shown a map that had it wrong. It's not as though check the location very often.

Funny how these things work. Until a few years ago, The Holy Roman Empire didn't exist, for me at least. I can probably explain that one away I probably lumped The Roman Empire and the Holy Roman Empire together as a kid and never gave it a second thought.

One of these that does bug me though is the sudden appearance of a mural at the end of my street. It's an company logo from the 40s or thereabout, painted on the side of a building that used to be a metal workshop, it's called 'The Bell House' and is also the name of my street. I've lived in my current house for around 7 years, and the house used to belong to my grandmother before that. Basically what I'm saying that I've walked up and down my street thousands of times over a period of 30+ years and I never noticed the prominent, two-story high mural, 50 feet away from my front door. It's possible that it was recently painted, but if that's true, they did a good job of making it look authentic.

OzWeatherman obviously doesn't know how this works... Australia and New Zealand didn't just move - we have moved into an alternate reality where all maps regardless how old will reflect this new positioning... he thinks it's 'hilarious' becauise he doesn't comprehend the implications... Australia / New Zealand didn't move - WE did, into a parallel world (or at least some of us did)... in 2005 i was planning a trip to Australia and New Zealand and i spent months poring over maps deciding where to go and just as LastStandingMan says - Australia was isolated ALL BY ITSELF in the Deep South Pacific except for New Zealand just to the north... never made the trip due to unforseen circumstances, but a couple years ago a friend who knew i had been planning this trip for months called me up and told me to look at a map of the world and see if i noticed anything unusual - and within 3 seconds i noticed that Australia was now part of Indonesia and had my mind blown totally away...

skeptics of the mandela delusion know exactly how it works

MOVING CONTINENTS HAS IMPLICATIONS

in your fantasy that " australia was issolated in the deep pacific " :

which european explorer claimed" first discovery " ?

was darwin bombed by the japanese in WWII ?

was darwin affected by cyclone tracy ?

what is the average december temperature in hobart ?

does queensland export sugar cane and pineapples ?

see - moving continents has implications - that none of you ever address

How about this one? IF New Zealand were to the north of OZ (Australia) why do we have a more temperate climate, including snow? None of these people ever comment with "oh and wow New Zealand looks much colder than I remember .... )

I'm really over these Mandela effects people
They need to stick to Volkswagen logs and if Mickey had suspenders.
