I know a friend who lives in the local area.

my friend u miss translate the article.

The word Meteoro can be used for 2 things:

1.- a meteor (rock from space)
2.- Meteoro can be used for a weather time, like a sandstorm, few days of rain, cold weather and such things

Angangueo, Ocampo, Tuxpan, and Tuzantla Tiquicheo in the OTHER direction of puebla an hidalgo.

another thing Wrong of that link is that the news is from 07/Feb/2010 so theres no relation with the post. Thank you.

Thats how easy can a wrong translation change everything LOL

Desde cuando que la palabra meteoro se usa para hablar de un evento climatico?

Since when is the word "meteoro" used to talk about a climate event?

I'm hispanic and well-versed in English and Spanish. I have NEVER seen or heard the word being used like that. Now, maybe it's a Mexican thing? But, again, I have NEVER witnessed it used that way.

Like i said before Do some research before you post something.

buscon.rae.es...

this is form the real academy of the Spanish lenguage

Fenómeno atmosférico, que puede ser aéreo, como los vientos, acuoso, como la lluvia o la nieve, luminoso, como el arco iris, el parhelio o la paraselene, y eléctrico, como el rayo y el fuego de Santelmo.

that means

Atmospheric phenomenon, that can be aerial, like winds, watery, like rain or the snow, luminous, like the rainbow, parhelio or paraselene, and electrical, like the ray and the fire of Santelmo.

Ok, my bad about the crater diameter!! However the point here is that are still missing reliable sources to confirm the impact.

Agrred with the lack of info, trust me every mexican forum i visited is flooded with that, the source is the gob, civil protection office is the one that manage that, and they said they haven't found anything.

The above is a definition of "Meteor" according to the Royal Dictionary of Spanish (the equivalent, maybe to the Oxford Dictionary of English). I believe this settles the argument on the spanish meaning of "Meteoro".

Yes there seems to have been an increasing amount of "Natural" disasters in recent past years; New orleans for one and if you've been watchin the news over the past 5-10 + years you would of seen a vast amount of others of many types. It is wildly known that certain governments have technology that can manipulate weather, ie hurricanes and quite possibly steer them. But thats maybe a thread i might start sometime as theres a lot more to it than that.

top news from the Mexican Aerospace agency (didn't know we have that hahaha)

www.eluniversal.com.mx...

BabelFish translation

The Mexican scientist Fernando of the Rock, confirmed the fall of an object from the space in the environs of the states of Hidalgo and Puebla.
The impeller of the Mexican Aerospace Agency discarded that the strong roar reported yesterday by inhabitants of the region would have been brought about by a meteorite. Of the Rock it indicated that in this case it was a satellite of Russian origin, considered space scrap iron.
The eve the inhabitants of the municipalities of Tulancingo, Santiago Tulantepec and Cuautepec, in Noble, and of Ahuazotepec, in Puebla, alerted on the facts to the local authorities.
The director of Civil defense in Noble, Miguel Garci'a Count, attributed the facts to a mediatic rumor.

That would be incredible to witness. Why isn't more attention given to this type of news? I mean, this is the first I'm hearing of it.
I am beginning to think that the Government is concerned that if more and more meteorits are hitting it could cause mass hysteria.

Those alleged "orbs" in the NASA SOHO/Stereo images are EARTH sized.

I was going to post this event this morning but I was at work. I first saw this event here:

www.ubalert.com...

It said it was a cosmic event. I went to all the MSM sites but I haven't seen news of it. I wonder if the Latin American MSM channels might have some information.

In here the goberment said the same.
The meteor hit betwen Hidalgo and Puebla, hit a bridge and made a 30mts crater. broke windows and shake buildings arround the area.
The army close the area to ensure what happend.
thats all until now.

Calma la vena porque a mi no me has dicho nada.

Ok, so I hadn't checked the DRAE... BUT. My point is actually still as prevalent as before. I have NEVER heard or seen the word "meteoro" being used to refer to a climate event. As much as the word, novelty as it is to me, is dictated as usable to describe one. Again, never. Except obviously as "meteorologo" or "meteorologia". But in a context such as "here we have a strange meteor" as reference to a climate event, never.

So, the insinuated question remains. Why would it be used like that all of a sudden? A scholarly news reporter who is evoking an uncommon use of the word? Does this then prove him to be an efficient reporter? Or, again, is it common in Mexico for the term to be used like that? A lot of questions appear.

Peace, and love.

I just saw this related article on Discovery.com

Mexican Meteorite: Was it Russian Space Junk?

Enjoy!

Isn't it usually widely reported in the news when a satellite is know to be falling out of the sky, especially when it might hit civilian areas?

The claim that this is a satellite really deepens the mystery.

That must have been some big satellite to hit the ground and create a huge crater. I thought they usually broke up on re-entry.

Why do the Russians always get the blame?

Ohhhhh!!! I feel so safe and confortable with the goverments in this world. Specially with the goverment of the United States. I feel so happy that the "meteorite" that felt in Mexico WAS NOT A METEORITE BUT SPACE JUNK NUMBER 33006. As per space-track agency of Defense Department, this "meteorite" was one of the 15 parts that Soviet satellite Cosmos 2421 broke in. And they knew in advance that this part was going to felt SOMEWHERE IN THE WORLD but not in the USA. And ohps!! they are sorry because they forgot to comment this to the world. The only thing I'm
concern is that the rest 14 parts are not going to fall in Iran, North Korea, Venezuela, India, Australia, UK or wherever I have family. SO USA SLEEP IN PEACE TONITE. REST OF THE WORLD WATCH THE SKY AND PUT YOUR HEAD IN A HOLE WHEN THIS HAPEN.
We should invade those stupids Soviets scientist that are doing this stupids things like the Norway Spiral or allow them satellites to explode. I wander if one the pieces is going to fall over the Kremlin.
WE, THE HUMANS BEINGS, MUST BE SOOO RETARDED TO BELIVE THIS CRAP....
