A meteorite has smashed into the ground in Mexico, leaving a 30 meter (100 feet) wide crater, reports said. The meteorite impact was in the Ahuazotepec Municipality in Central Mexico between the cities of Puebla and Hidalgo. The precise impact area of the meteorite was in a relatively unpopulated area and hit around 6.30pm local time, Mexican media said. The Ahuazotepec, Mexico meteorite impact was so massive it broke windows in homes many kilometers from the epicenter and people reported buildings swaying and mass confusion.

Okay so this is my first official thread here at ats, and I hope it's in the right section!

Is it just me or has there been quite a few really substantial and large meteor impacts over the last couple of years?

Yeah I'm wondering why there is no more news of this
I mean, it was powerful enough to damage buildings! it's pretty major in my opinion.

Also, I think the video you posted is of a different event, if my memory serves me correctly that is a bolide that lit up the sky in either America or Australia

its suggested that since the wobbling orbit of the sun (along with us) around the galaxy is approaching the plain of the spin of the galaxy, that we will collide with the objects that are already orbiting at that axis. Not sure what you call it; the plain that is orthogonal to the galaxys axis of spin. But, we are likely to see more meteors.

Since no other news agencies/sources are corroborating these reports, its important NOT to take them with a pinch of salt. The very fact that they are not covering this, in conjunction with the presence of numerous eye witnesses, makes this even more likely to be valid news.

Although, its also likely that no main stream media news sources have reported on this yet simply because they haven't gotten their stories straight yet; they haven't yet gotten the ok from their boss, the corporate fascist world government, to decide upon a story to run for this.

Welcome to the forum impala67, and thank you for posting this.

Unfortunately, reports like this need to be taken with a pinch of salt, especially since no other news agencies/sources are corroborating them.

Most of all though, we know that meteorites that cause quite large craters like this are quite rare. It is possible that this happened, but lets wait and see, before we jump to any conclusions.

The video does seem to be at least partly genuine footage of a bright meteoroid entering the atmosphere (when you see the sky flash), but the end seems to be "bolted on", and this raises issues as to it's authenticity IMO.

None of the official sources are confirming this right now as far as I can see.

Wow. We have seen an upturn in the amount of atmospheric penetrations sure, but its pretty rare for a lump big enough to smash a thirty meter hole in the ground, to make it as far as the surface. Rarer still over a bit of land rather than the ocean.
People will no doubt complain and say , oh its not that rare blah blah, but really people. Its not like this is a weekly occurance !

If real, could it be a UFO? I heard that 2010 would see a UFO crash into Earth with many witnesses and a fuzzy video to go with it. This person also reported that 2010 would be the year of the earthquakes with a major one near Brazil.

i just saw some articles in one of the most important newspapers in mexico, El universal.

here are the links.

www.eluniversal.com.mx...
www.eluniversal.com.mx...

firemen and police says they don't know yet if it a meteor, this morning at 830am (mexico city time) will start the search for the thing that hit the earth. People says that they saw a bright light in the sky and the they heard an impact.

This is the most important thing u need to translate since all the rest is just what people saw and heard.

When more news pop i will put them in here.

For some reason Mexico has always gotten more than it's share of meteor strikes.

Thanks for the post O.P.

No news about it in Texas yet either. Snow in D.C. seems more important to msm than anything else at the moment.

ummm in a lot of the world people don not use our standard on mm/dd/yy, they use dd/mm/yy. So 11/02/10 is actually feb. 2, 2010.......I'm assuming you were serious in your post, if not then forgive me but I'm not good at reading sarcasm.

Apples and oranges...

Yes, we get "big" meteors all the time.

Meteorites that leave sizable crates are whole other kettle of fish, and they are relatively rare.

There have been similar stories in the past, and they usually turn out to have a terrestrial cause, such as someone using explosives to make a crater.

As Nizax said - he has not heard anything in the news. If there was anything to it, it would probably be the top story in the local news there. Real meteorite craters are rare!

I must conceed that had there been an impact of this magnitude, and had there been the wide scale window breakage that was in the OPs report, you would have thought there would be some local media coverage... I wonder if its possible to get a recently updated google earth pic of the supposed impact site?
