Chinese Justice System
BEIJING, Feb. 10 (Xinhua) -- Sun Shanwu, former vice chairman of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) Henan Provincial Committee, was sentenced to death with a two-year reprieve for graft in eastern China's Shandong Province Tuesday.
And why is this fellow going to die?
According to the Weifang Intermediate People Court, Sun, 63, was found to have taken bribes worth of more than 9.1 million yuan (about 1.33 million U.S. dollars) from 2002 to 2006, when he served as the member of the Standing Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Henan Provincial Committee, and secretary of the CPC Luoyang municipal committee.
Mr. Shanwu did not kill anyone, rape anyone, or steal anyone's horses, he took bribes! Which in China is a capitol offense!
That is Chinese Justice!
Well, unlike in the West, in China if everyone finds out you are actually cheating everyone you are literally hanged, in the West if everyone finds out you are actually cheating everyone you are getting bailed out ;-)
Hong Kong comes into a unique place in this topic, and give China hope and opportunities. In the 70s in HK it is one of the worst place to live, full of corruption behind closed doors, but even in public. After HK revamped itself and with determination by the public and government, the anti-corruption agency ICAC was set up. Result is that HK is now on the toplist of the most free economic environment in the world with one of the least corruption rate. If it can be done in HK, it can be done in the rest of the mainland China.
Under the principle of "one country, two systems", Hong Kong runs on economic and political systems different from those of mainland China.[11] Hong Kong is one of the world's leading international financial centres, with a major capitalist service economy characterised by low taxation, free trade and minimum government intervention under the ethos of positive non-interventionism.[12] The Hong Kong dollar is the 9th most traded currency in the world.[13]
