I was totally outraged that individual Americans such as these people are taking shots at Australians, calling them racist because of this advertisement. Firstly they don't even understand the game of cricket and are taking this way out of context here. These are not african people and are people from the west indies. They do get interested in a game of cricket like this and australians love chicken and KFC like any other normal person. KFC is one of the well known sponsors of cricket australia and compete well against other fast food restaurants.

I am brown skinned and not originally from Australia and I find really contradictory that people of colour are finding anyway to lay the next white person as a racist when they themselves take part in the same action.

I would love to hear from both Australians and Americans on this matter.

***Updated***

Also I would like to know what your thoughts on globalisation and media such as this being accessible to the entire world and not just one place. Should large corporations and companies such as this be looking at media at a global scale and consider the cultural and ethical problems throughout the world when releasing such advertisement as this?

I laughed at this because it was funny, it was funny because it promoted a sterotype that is wrong. I also laughed because I know and many of you also know that this was backhanded racism pure and simple. This wouldn't be shown in the Americas because of the continued racism and history of racism that was pushed in the US. Australia has issues to with race so I don't let them off the hook because "it was showing people loving chicken and getting along". No one here is naive and the people that where behind that ad aren't either. It's called nuances, the ability to read between the lines and whatever. All of us know how to do it, and reading between the line you know this was as stated before a backhanded attempted to say N****r without getting caught and seeing what a few people can get away with. You would think that Australian people would be conscious of this fact after their history up to present with different people.

There's a movie that many of you should see that came out in 1995 called White Man's Burden. It stared John Travolta and Harry Belafonte. It was a very good movie, but only made 4 million dollars in the US at the movie theater. You should watch it all the way through because the first 10 minutes will tell you why it didn't make alot of money in the US. Just watch it and think about, then you will know why people can be mad and conscious of racism.

It might if a white person holds up a bucket of crack and a bunch of black people simultaneously reach for it.

I personally do not think KFC was racist, just insensitive. They should have known this ad was going to reach the states and Black Americans would not find it humorous.

You cant judge this ad from the view of an American we have racial prejudices that is specifically the United States. Other countries do not associate fried chicken with any race. In Australia this commercial is hilarious. Not because there black but because they found an effective way to shut up some very vocal cricket fans. If they were going to make a similar commercial here you would see a guy stuck with seats on say the bears side of the field with fans yelling. Guy unable to watch his team play pulls out fried chicken they all shut up and he can enjoy the game.

If you see racism in this ad i strongly suggest you stop imposing your beliefs on others and maybe rethink your views on other races.Simply put keep your prejudices to yourself!

Not so much racist as ignorant.

They are not American, they are not African, they are not discriminated against, and they do not have a reputation for being fond of chicken. (- or watermelon.)

Haven't been to the Islands, now have you??? I can say this because I have, and they LOVE chicken too!! And all non-aboriginal blacks are of African descent... And you called me ignorant...

edit to add: And I never said SQUAT about watermelon, so leave that one out of this... It's about chicken and only chicken!

Oh, which Islands?

There's no need for anyone to call you ignorant when you say things like this.

All Humans are of African descent, including aboriginals.

So what?

Lets break this down.

(1) Bloke is stuck with a seat jam-smack in the middle of the opposing teams supporters.

(2) Go watch a video somewhere( you tube or something ),of an international cricket match in the West Indies and see what groups of supporters are doing.
I'll think you would be suprised to see them ....i dunno,PLAYING DRUMS,DANCING AROUND AND BLOWING HORNS!

(3) Said bloke offers his food around,to make his feelings of "oh crap im on the wrong side of the oval",go away!

I think that is what is lost on most NON-cricket playing nations.

So all you colonials, grab a ball and a cricket bat and have a big cup of get real!

This is not racist, it has nothing to do with the coulour of skin, and it’s about cricket that’s all.
Ok let’s change the guy’s shirt; it could be any other country doesn’t matter as long as they have a cricket team, now let’s change the countries home team. That commercial could be played on any station of those two countries. Just a marketing strategy if you ask me. You could put an Indian supporter in the middle of Sri-Lanka supporters that could be a commercial in India. I think you need to love cricket to get the meaning no matter what countries team you support.

My point was that we have plenty of team sports here in the US. And one occasionally finds oneself on the 'wrong side of the arena' here too. Believe me when I say that you do not want to be trapped in a group of 'Cheeseheads' when you are rooting for the other team! It's not just something that happens everywhere else but here...

Hey, I love chicken.

Heck, I do not know anyone on Earth that doesn't love chicken too. And by that I mean eating them.

Asians love it, Africans love it, Euros love it, everyone loves it.

It is a really stupid animal that is easy to keep and kill and eat.

Heck, the guys giving away free chicken...I won't be saying anything to him other than "Thank you sir."

And also, since we are discussing chicken stereotypes, I must add one last thing.

Everyone on Earth eats Rice too, not just Asians. And we all love it.

Wow, that commercial IS racist.

Obviously the producers only hired the white guy because they had to, after hiring all of those black people.

Ha ha ha ha Yep, he's the token white guy, ha ha ha ha

I wonder if his name is Token?

Joking aside now, there does seem to be a theme running through media lately about we from Oz being racist. I think those who are offended need to look inside themselves to ask Why?

To me, we Ozzies are a fun-loving bunch, we enjoy politically incorrect satire and we can laugh at ourselves far easier than any other peoples that I know.

The ads were in a series,
and chicken was also given to-

-his inlaws so he could remove the batteries from the remote control and keep the cricket on the tv

-a security guard at the cricket, so he could sit on the boundary line for the best view

The same character also stole cricket tickets off an English ticket scalper
and took some kfc off a man who was knocked out by a flying ball because he was too interested in his kfc

if anything the ads should be remarked about because of the KFC man's complete lack of ethics!!!!

In my opinion, I don't see this ad as being racist. Why? because when you bring out food to a group of people no matter what race they are, if they are hungry they are going to stop doing what they are doing and go for the food. That's what I saw in the video.

I'm American by the way, and if people think this ad is racist then they need to take a closer look at the ad.

Fried Chicken and Black people is a US stereotype, not an Aussie one. Please remember this as you watch this AUSSIE commercial and please don't forget to step down OFF your moral high-horse and remember that we do things differently Down Under - our country, not yours.

For an American to think they can have an opinion on something they obviously do not understand is nothing more than arrogance and possibly fear of the unknown.
