Where do you suppose that these people in 3rd world countries go to purchase said contraceptives? Next door to the filthy hut they call home and beside the polluted stream. I do not believe they have drug store just down the road to go pick up a pack of condoms, nor do they have any money to buy condoms because they spent their monthly salary of $2 on a ball of rice for their family of 5. You sound quite hateful towards those with less than you. I suggest you go and visit a few of these 3rd world countries you talk about and then rethink your response as it is a silly and hateful post. As far as the religious beliefs? Isn't the pope against the pill?

1.Along with food, countries in Africa HAVE been given condoms and such. They used them as balloons or mocked them as "belittling their manhood".
2.If you cant afford a $2 ball of rice, why would you be stupid enough to add another mouth to feed?
3.Hateful to those who have less than me? No. Disgusted with those who lack common sense, responsibility to a family they cant afford? yeah. I have little patience for stupidity. Welfare families IN MY COUNTRY that I have to feed and clothe with MY TAXES when they have 5 or 6 kids? yeah. That pisses me off!

Pope against the pill? you don't want my take on the Roman Emp...Catholic church and their brand of BS.

next argument please?

Wow, so many idiots on this thread.

My favourite line was everyone could live in australia and get a quarter acre block. Apart from the fact 80% would starve to death because there isn't enough water or arable land for them, not to mention the slaughter of all the wildlife to make room.

This is illustrative of the contempt and ignorance people have for the world. We need to keep pristine parts just like we need to keep many resources in the ground for future use rather than digging them all up now. It's amazing people can't see us like the rabbits we are until we use everything and start to starve. And if you think that limitless amounts of land will stay arable with even more burden think again.

Australia is losing arable land every year to salination and desertification, and I know the US is suffering this too.

No wonder so many stupid conspiracies get traction here when you see comments like that.

Haven't read the whole thread yet, just your opening post so I don't know if anybody said this.
The '1st' world, that is the elites you call us already have a low and falling birth rate. Prosperity tends to reduce birthrates. The '3rd' world still has fairly high birthrates. There is actually pretty good reason for this. These people know that a percentage of their children will not live to adulthood and a larger family actually provides them with a better economic base.
The solution to the population problems are to raise the standard of living, ensure that more children actually live to adulthood.
(getting the church to support birth control wouldn't hurt
)

The world is NOT over-populated.

You could put the entire world population into Australia, everyone would have 3/4 of an acre and Queensland would still be half empty and the rest of the world would be empty!!!

That's how over-populated we are.

Stop spreading propaganda.

I love the progressive mindset I wish their leader was Jim Jones. Instead about preaching about killing others so you can live in more comfort why not just do your fellow man a favor and live by the words you preach. I am glad about one thing at the end of the day you guys are going to eat each other. I for one cant wait to watch.

The world is over populated I agree. However, for some reason I have faith in human kind find another planet we can get to sooner than later that we can populate.

Think about it, those who first go will more than likely be compensated, or perhaps all be rich people who buy their way there. Which means some of the 'elite' may leave.

I'm not saying this will happen tomorrow, but if we think positive, it's possible.

Scientists said they believe they will find at least 50 "goldly lox" planets within, I believe they said a year, but it may have been ten (but I think I may be wrong on the latter). I'll trying and find the article/video saying this to correct my last sentence.

Either way, we can more than likely hold off til this happens if humanity turns much more positive in the coming years.

Being overpopulated is not just about the amount of land we have. It's more about our population growing faster than humanity can sustain.

Think of humanity as one big family. If you have too many children and grow your family too fast then you are going to have problems. Eventually, if your family keeps growing your going to out grow your home.

That's not even taking into account that there are plants and animals living on this planet too.

Who takes care of you when you're old? The answer is that you save your money when you can still work, instead of spending recklessly. Plan for everything and you won't have to beg from the government.

And I agree with the point about the poor being a burden on the rich. If you breed, then pay for everything for them yourself, instead of expecting the rich to get taxed more to pay for you.

And there's no need to "get in line" for anything, because we're not advocating murder. We're advocating having no or less kids, in which case, we're already in line.

You do realize that a nursing home even a crappy rebuilt from a derelict hospital runs 4000-5000 per month right and that is in SC where the standard of living is fairly cheap? I think it took a year or two to run through the savings, home, personal wealth of a coach for a local college team after it was discovered that he came down with Alzheimer's in his late 40's. I've never seen any nursing home where any of the residents were self financed for every long.

One of the best I've seen in Charlotte NC runs 10,000-25,000 per month. They keep you around until all your finances are gone and send you to one of the above state operated nursing homes. The majority of people can put every cent of their earnings away and it would not be enough to take care of them in their old age.

It becomes somewhat more affordable if you have relatives that will look after you. That is if they are interested in that and don't take your savings for themselves.

It's a good thing you support the Depopulation agenda because you'll adjust to the future quite well as long as you don't resist Winston.

The notion that this planet is over populated is silly. There are not too many people on the planet but there are too many greedy elite who would have you believe so. This planet can easily handle 200 Billion - and every one of us with our own personal self sustaining organic gardens, atmospheric water generators and personal clean power supplies! But self sufficient, independent populations are not withing the current model. If there were no perceived struggle for energy, food, resources then we wouldn't need much government or the wars they bring.

No, the problem isn't too many people, we can solve those problems. The problem in a defect in the human heart that causes those in power to abuse it and those not in power to remain apathetic. God help us.

The OP said it all in this sentence.

"because people are basically pigs who think in the short term."

What is the epidemic in rich countries today?
Morbid endogenous obesity.

Christ told of Lazarus who ate the scraps that fell off a rich mans table, then he and the rich man died, of course Lazarus went to heaven and rich man went to hell.

The rich guy asked for Lazarus to dip his finger in the water and give him a drop.

Lazarus asks if he can do this?

Christ sad it aint going to happen because the gulf separating rich guy and Lazarus was too wide.

The obscene amount of food you eat and spoil and waste is reminding me of the song by REO Speedwagon:
Golden Country your face is so red, with all of your money the poor could be fed.
You act concerned but then why turn away, when a woman was raped on your doorstep today.

Why are you acting concerned OP?

We do not have a lack of food problem we have a distribution problem.

And in the upcoming battle for the ear of corn which makes biodiesel, who will win? The fat rich guy with the SUV against the poor child in Africa-----every time.

In fact there is a great movie out about this Starring Kevin Spacey, Brad Pitt Morgan Freeman, Gwyneth Palthrow called SEVEN.

Gluttony, Sloth, Lust, Greed Avarice.

You are victims of your appetites.

I actually think that most people don't live in the mentality that the world is "misery piled upon more misery." That's just a really sad perspective to have on life. I feel like I've got plenty of elbow room, and don't mind sharing the world with other people
I don't think 3 hot dogs and a cot is a very good sterilization package, it's very sad to play on people's weakness like that. Your exchanging 3 crap-drops and a cheap uncomfortable cot for the magic of concieving a life. Bum deal if you ask me

I also don't think we are the "elite" just because we have the luxury of wasting our brain cells away on computers. Perhaps the people who live much more simple lives are the real elite here. They have no need to contemplate these silly issues on websites, or long to have hours to spend in front of computers. Maybe they are luckier than we.
All I'm saying is, life is not so miserable. More people equal more hugs!
Peace & love

www.youtube.com...

Personally I feel its selfish to believe that we could just multiply without any consideration to the fellow species of creatures on this earth. Instead of being grateful to mother earth for the land it provides us and the animals that die to feed us. We take it for granted and we ask for more.

Given the same situation, where your cousin comes into your mansion cause he got no where to live, you feed and provide for him cause you love him.

Then he say " Hey! you got tons of room left. Can I bring my family in as well? and my family's family ? we could all squeeze into one room of your BIG mansion so it shouldn't be a problem. " How would anyone of us feel then?

*No idea how to make the youtube function work, so have to click on the url urselves.

The only form of depopulation that should be promoted is that of corrupt politicians, we'd all be much better off without them....

Other than that, we are far from exceeding the Earth's ability to sustain us, just how far though, depends on several variables, but Earth could easily sustain far more than the current population.

Whoooa! You just said, "The world is over-populated." Where is your proof? You say there is poverty in the world and people go hungry, thus we have overpopulation. Sorry, there has been poverty and malnutrition in the world since antiquity when the Earth's population was measured by the millions not the billions. The population of Rome 2,000 years ago was a million...but Rome was not the world then and New York is not the world today, Distribution of food and wealth is the major problem today as then, not overpopulation.

The world is NOT over-populated. More than 97% of the land surface on Earth is empty. New York, Chicago and LA may be over-populated, of course. Yet the entire population of the world could fit inside the state of Oklahoma. So, then, how is the world 'over-populated'? Ever drive through Montana or Wyoming?

If you choose to live in an overpopulated city, so be it. Don't ascribe your chosen situation to the entire world because someone bumped you on the street and made you feel uncomfortable. De-population is laughable as a solution to the world's problems.

That's hilarious? Was that or joke, or do you really think it is just about space to live on, and not all the resources that support our population and way of life?

Where are you going to get all the resources, energy and water from? What about land to grow crops in ways that doesn't destroy it. Do you know where most of our fertilizer comes from? Most of our modern echnology uses rare elements that are very much limited, how far will they stretch? How will we fish the oceans even moer when fish stocks around the world have collapsed already due to increasing demand?
