Well, I can tell you I really hope you don't leave ATS, please. I have done just about all I can to correct that situation in the other thread, including sending a staff alert and PMing a mod who is now aware of the situation by his response back to me. So let's give it another day. If they don't fix it, then I guess we'll just have to go start our own forum, PuterMan...

We already lost Shirakawa, which really sucks. Chill man. I have faith they'll get it right- sometimes it just takes a while.

If this goes on much more I think I am going to leave ATS to it's own devices.

Come on man! You are the counter ballance to these scare mongers! I for one look foreward to your sane and rational explanation to all events both tectonic and volcanic.

You are somewhat of a rock star on these threads. Besides, if you leave here I may have to give in to the doom and gloom because I don't have the knowledge or the time to research this stuff properly.

Cheers mate and (not that I have to tell you) try to look past those that are addicted to the drama...

Are you really trying to piss PuterMan off even further? :shk:

If you would read, ressiv, we are quite aware of that thread, have both replied in that thread along with many others who see through it, and that thread's title is total BS. We are trying to get it changed. Thanks for trying to bring it to attention though.

Hey there PuterMan,

I very rarely post on these threads but I always read them and stay up to date ... there are several posters who have been constant and accurate with their information ... but you are the bar that all others are held up to in such matters.

It would be criminal if you withdrew from ATS ... your contribution really is invaluable to keep the actuality in these threads.

I know how frustrating it must be to see all the sensationalism involved ... but that's all the more reason for you to stay and keep us accurately informed ... we need members like you ... and if like me, some people don't always post on these threads because we don't have the subject knowledge to add anything productive ... I feel confident to speak on behalf of the majority, that we really do appreciate the work you put into these threads.

Please don't leave !

Woody

I echo the sentiments of the others, Please Don't Leave, Puterman!

This is ATS, Deny Ignorance, that is why we are here.

Ignore the ignorant if you can't turn them to the truth.

Well, I have to admit that I've been getting fed up too with all the nonsense we have to wade through lately. Since I am one of the many that Puterman sets straight oftern, due to lack of knowledge in areas, that is saying a lot.

It seems that since ATS went on facebook and the membership numbers have gotten higher, the quality of the posts have gotten smaller. It's a bit frustrating.

I think it takes the ability to be able to overlook the posters just seeking the attention...but for those who really want to 'deny ignorance', that is hard to do. It used to be an easier task to set some of us straight, but as our numbers go up it's beginning to get impossible.

I've begun to stick to just a few of the threads that interest me most, because I don't have the time to sift through the bull.

Back to the volcanos: The glacier melt is ofcourse of interest, but not a clear indicator of an impending eruption. I think Puterman and others have made that clear.

Indonesia continues to heat up. (literally), and I hope there aren't any larger quakes pending because it just seems to be in a fragile state right now. Maybe that is just the perception due to the coverage? I'm counting on you TrueAmerican to keep an eye Toba. (no pressure
)

Edit to add: Puterman, I haven't forgotten the links. I have been sick, so on the laptop, and it doesn't have all my links on it. I am being lazy and waiting 'till I feel better to do it on my faster, home comp. I have been browsing your page more though and I'm lovin' it!

Hey Putterman,
Sounds to me like your just stressed,
I only say that cause it is in the air around me and many people
I have been around lately.
Something is up.
and maybe you are feeling it also.
As others have stated, you bring value to this site with the counterbalance of reason.
dont let it get to ya.

The station you want is PS.PSI..BHZ

It is in the Pacific 21 network. That seismo is right on the edge of Lake Toba.

I have to say folks I am stunned by the support and most grateful. Sorry Alysha, I will try not to say things that take people off topic.
* smacks own wrists *

Edit: @TA, by the way those were great videos - nice find.

Edit: Adding this map of PS.PSI right in the Toba caldera.

Sorry alysha, you will not be able to find the station (PS.KSI) in GEE, Vase, QuakeData or any of those programs. For some reason it will not come up. You can monitor PS.PSI, but not KSI.

For that station, which is one of the closest to epicenters of the recent quakes in Sumatra, you have to go here, and they are usually a day or two behind real time (which kind of sucks, but that's all we have).

www.jamstec.go.jp...

For Toba, yes PS.PSI is right smack on it by the lake...

Yes that link will do fine for looking at the seismograms.

If you want to see it in real time then you need to get a copy of GEE (free). This is the home page for GEE with link to downloads etc.

If you or anyone wants to try GEE, follow PuterMan's link and get it. If it is your first time, I did put together a GEE tips thread, here:

GEE (Global Earthquake Explorer) Tips
www.abovetopsecret.com...

It will help get you up to speed using the program, cause there is A LOT in there. And the stock help files are not that great. My tutorial only addresses the real time monitoring aspect of GEE though, so fair warning. It won't teach you the whole program- but will definitely get you up on some stations and waiting for the fireworks.
