Well it's that time of the month again and before some webbot enthusiast or other prediction-generating official states that a major earthquake will occure around a certain date, allow me to have a wack at it without the help of any clairvoyant drivel....

Since two weeks the USGS world chart of recent earthquakes (i check it every day..) is looking more like swiss cheese, with all the earthquakes scattered around as oppose to them usually being centered around certain hotspots.

This combined with the fact that the total number of earthquakes on the map is around the 150 (which is low) and an upcomming full moon on Sunday October 4th, i will bet you that a fairly big quake >M7.0 will hit around this date.

So the official prediction would be:

Big quake, somewere between the 1ste and the 90th parallel. Magnitute >7.0, within the timeframe of 2-5 October 2009.....

Good luck everybody and strap down those heavy objects around the house!!!

Peace

If the prediction is correct, its going to get pretty messy! Hopefully the UK will see no quakes...

*Fingers Crossed* its not going to be true!

I recon the UK will be fairly save from any geological activity but you never know.....

I especially find the recent activity around the mid-atlantic ridge from north to south very interesting....

1ste and the 90th parallel. Magnitute >7.0, ?????????

sorry being a novice, where in the world is that supposed to be??, and as far as I know the UK isn't on a fault line, but HAS had a few minor earthquakes over the last couple of years.

Yeah, sorry about that but i put that in there because of the webbots prediction last month. It predicted a major quake between the 32th and 34th parallel and couldn't tell if this would be the north or the south which basicly means they didn't have a clue. So i thought i'd do the same but with a bigger hit-ratio because of my prediction being in between the 1st and the 90th parallel, north or south.....

Yes, you are correct but not the amount of quakes Indonesia, Alaska etc are getting....so it could be a 9.0 quake smack in the middle of the United Kingdom but it's my prediction and i predict this not to be very likely...

Peace

Nice thread.

I am actually glad you started this one to get your theory on the record. I think you are on to something here and am interested in whether you can hit this one or not. I know we did not get off on the right foot in the last thread, but I honestly am just trying to find truth and if your theory holds then Web Bot will start looking more like 'educated guesses' than 'Asymmetric Linguistic Trend Analysis'.

Now my question is this: If it is so easy to predict a large-ish quake around a full moon, why aren't people in quake-prone areas aware of this? I don't mean the people in SoCal should flee for the plains every month, but wouldn't they be a little more alert during full moons? Or is there perhaps something more to it?

So far, no prediction of a quake from the Web Bot folks just yet...

Thank you Nysdan for the complement.

I certainly hope this theory will hold water and preferably in some remote area!!

Now as for the coordinates, i will try and narrow it down a bit using only logic reasoning. Wait for it....................it's gonna hit near Indonesia!!!

That or Western America is gonna get it.......

(i know, i'm new at this predicting thing. Give me a break)

I guess they just grew tired of running around like idiots every time some chicken little cried that the sky would come crashing down...

But seriously, people tend to accept the conditions that come with living in dangerous areas.

Have you seen the news? Tsunami warning! 7.9 quake somewhere near Samoa. Way to go, man.

You have a real future in this.

1 hr ago:
7.9 in Samoan Islands Region

15.554°S, 172.141°W

Does this fulfill your prophecy?
If you think so, chalk one up in your win column.
And give yourself a high five.

Let's go for 2 for 2, what are the winning Powerball numbers for tomorrow's drawing?

Please u2u those to me. I don't want to split the pot 2000 ways.

You guys will beleive anything won't you ???

Between the 1st and 90th parallel = FAIL

Between Oct. 2nd and 5th = FAIL

People are so quick to beleive that theyll beleive anything, now back to Special Ed children, ...

I'm kidding, but really, ... back to class.

he predicted an earthquake by looking at the data, and patterns.

he predicted an earthquake around 7 mag within the next few days.

he was right. there is not much for your argument. too coincidal.

Exactly, and only 3300 nautical miles off of the predicted target of Indonesia.

But hey, there is a chance for redemption. Still another 6 days to be accurate. The hater in me hopes that it hits on the Equator on the 6th...in Africa! That'll be a TRIPLE FAIL

You do realize that the 1st-90th parallel covers pole to the pole, with the exception of 1 degree on either side of the equator. So that's a bunk prediction.

The claim of one coming from 10/2-10/5 would not encompass one occurring on 9/29. Fail.

And as to predicting one, with an average of 18 earthquakes per year that measure above the 7.0 level, and only 6 having occurred so far this year, it is a statistical probability that one would come soon.

People are too quick to hop on and accept a "prediction" as truth without looking at the science behind it.

Technically a fail, because the quake did not occur during the prediction timeframe. I still have to give props though, because I know what O.M. is doing and he may be getting real close to something.

Now, this is nothing groundbreaking, but it seems there is indeed some correlation between full moons in the later part of the year and earthquake activity. Maybe this was something people have known for sometime, but not something I was aware of until this summer.

So yes, a mag 8 quake is not common and this prediction is for the weekend. It would be more surprising if the prediction could be more specific (like maybe pointing out buildings falling down indicating that the quake will occur on land and will result in casualties) but that is not how it works for this kind of prediction.

I'll be sure to post the next Web Bot quake prediction so we may compare/contrast.

Good job thusfar!

WHAT AN EPIC FAIL!!!! This thread should be labeled HOAX and the OP should have his.....ohh wait...

Gonna make it up to all the disapointed people out their who will say that it wasn't within the timeframe or the given location. This wasn't it....

South America will be hit with a M5/6 within a few hours to days and within the earlier stated timeframe (2-5 oct.) a >7 earthquake will hit somewere along the westcoast of North America......

I wouldn't want to ruin anybody's weekend so strap in and hold on, it's gonna be a bumpy one....see you at the end of the weekend so we can have a few laughs....

What a joke........

Peace
