If you want real equality in america why don't we give black people white slaves and give them the time to build up economic and cultural fortunes. I mean isn't that what whites did?

Wow it's amazing how many people here think whites built USA on their own and USA is nothing without white people.
So ignorant and pathetic.
Your USA would be nothing without the black slaves for you so ride on and make most of the money for you.
And which of these circumstances made slavery more acceptable for the USA?..ya know...a country actually founded on the premise of freedom?
Yes please!! but I am not holding my breath.
Who is "they" and "these people"...just curious....
Yah!! If "they" actually cared about slavery they would have appointed a czar or Special Envoy or something to combat it!!
Oh....I guess "they" did....
WASHINGTON, DC – Today, President Barack Obama announced the appointment of Luis C. de Baca as Ambassador-at-Large to Monitor and Combat Trafficking in Persons at the State Department.
www.whorunsgov.com...
But I am sure with a little digging and some creative writing WND will reveal that Luis de Baca actually runs a human trafficking ring

I have to assume that this will be equally applied to the NBA that is 70% African American.
So we need about 6 out of 7 African American basketball players to step down so that we can have a diversity that reflects the color makeup or our country.
That was tongue and cheek.
Any time that you try to enforce quotas, you're doomed to fail.

It's not about who built the damned thing.
We addressed this issue in the mid 1800's... the slavery you mention was part of the normal standards of operation. Historically, it's the way things were done. The Dutch, the English, the Spanish all had slaves. It was part of the culture. Hell, even the Scandinavian Rus sold Slavs to the Persians before they became assimilated into the culture of what eventually became Russia.
The American Civil war was more about the conflict of Industrial vs Agrarian cultures. The central point of conflict, after you wash all the bull#### off if it, was that the US Government was foisting a requirement on the Southern States (get rid of slaves) without offering a viable solution as to how they were going to get the manpower to work the fields. (Oh, and by the way, we are not going to pay you higher prices for your product, we expect your shipment next month) So, in other words, they wanted it done for free.
Perversely, it sounds a bit like the way the Government is operating now; Offering a non-viable solution for an intractable problem.
So, the playing field was leveled, for the most part. Sure, it took several years after that for this to actually happen, but it is level. How else can a Secretary of State have worked through the education system and risen to that office? Several people of non-white lineage have made equally lofty climbs up the ranks of power.
In fact, "I" never owned a slave, and in all likelihood, "you" were never employed as one. "I" dont' owe "you" a damed thing other than equal access to the resources that allow "you" to gain as much or more success that "I" got using the same resources.
So don't come bleating that it's not equal. All success stories that are not "handed to you on a plate" require hard work and perseverance, whether you are white, black, asian, mulatto, hispanic, indigenous, or martian.
The problem is that far too many people (of all types) want that "handed to you on a plate" scenario. Well guess what. It ain't happening. If you don't have enough people busting their arse to do the real jobs, you will never sustain that "handed to you on a plate" group. Whine all you like, it's not happening.
Many of the "handed to you on a plate" groups... the actors, the sports wonders, the inherited, are going to be out in the cold when the economy that funds their leisure is wiped out. Just a matter of time... so go ahead, do your socialist best. And when it collapses.. don't come crying to me. You got what you wanted.

It doesn't matter how you dress up the words coming out of his mouth.
Which words you select to put quotations around, the fact still remains.
When you put lipstick on a pig, it is still a pig.

You basically admitted USA would not be where it is today without the slaves.

Again, things are not equal, and anyone suggesting things are equal has obviously overlooked the disparities between schools in the suburbs and schools in urban communities. Contrary to what you believe, there are many success stories that required no hard work and perseverance on the persons part. A lot of it has to do with being at the right place at the right time and people willing to open the doors.
It absolutely is. So is this thread. It's especially clear when you look at the actual quote.
"Because we have really, truly good white people in important positions. And the fact of the matter is that there are a limited number of those positions. And unless we are conscious of the need to have more people of color, gays, other people in those positions we will not change the problem.
We're in a position where you have to say who is going to step down so someone else can have power?
his… there’s nothing more difficult than this. Because we have really, truly good white people in important positions. And the fact of the matter is that there are a limited number of those positions. And unless we are conscious of the need to have more people of color, gays, other people in those positions we will not change the problem.
We’re in a position where you have to say who is going to step down so someone else can have power.

To address the underlying assumption here.
No, not all whites did this. As a matter of fact, it would have been a very small percentage of whites that did this. And still, those guys could have only DREAMED of what the Arabs did and still do.
To lump all whites in with a minority, and say that we all benefited from these people is not even realistic.
Proles. Most of those whites you want to say benefited were nothing but proles. The downtrodden. The unwanted. The unwashed. The uneducated. The debt ridden, lice carrying, descendants of more debt ridden unwashed lice ridden unwanted religiously or socially diseased mouths.
It isn't a lack of racism to identify some white new immigrant Pole as the same person who goes to an ivy league university from the "old wealth" their g-g-g-grandfather amassed.
The fact that anyone thinks it is is actually a significant form of bigotry.
