Again, ATS is a private forum, so free speech rules do not apply. It's the same reason you cannot talk about pornography or illicit substances. The ATS community has reached a consensus that racism is wrong, and that is why it is not allowed here. There are many racists sites out there you can go to if you want to be racist, though, so don't feel like you're trapped here.

I applaud you for taking a stance, but you will be hard pressed to really objectively argue your point. Not all racists are fools. Some are well educated and have prominent standing in society.

I personally have a problem with this poster:

Dehumanizing minorities and calling them "animals" is highly offensive & racist to me. But the mods let this pass. So where do you draw the line?

The point is, it was caught. It doesn't have to be ran through a gray area or anything. Just notice it. Alert it and move on.

To help show the futher ignorance of racist people is to bring up the fact that true race has absolutly nothing to do with the color of your skin. It has to do with the shape of the scull.

refer to the following site on craniofacial anthropometry

I'm not racist...... I hate everybody equally

To be honest, just the one on that page. Was there another part to it? I am not singling you out or anything, I'm just asking if that's the kind of stuff we should look out for. I caught it.

Being that "Divide and Conquer" is one of the primary methods used by the PTB, and this is a conspiracy site, where the biggest conspiracy of all is considered to be the desire of the PTB to create a NWO, discussions on racism and bigotry of all kinds is on topic.

One of my favorite sayings is, "the more I learn, the the more I need to know".

We are all ignorant on many levels.

While discussions on race and religion can get very heated, I think the conservative verses liberal boards are usually more heated.

I think these discussions on race tend to be productive. I think they should be allowed to be continued. Sure, some people just post bigoted remarks, and others see racism everywhere they look, for the most part, there are many intelligent comments being made, and a sharing of perspectives.

I thought Wimbly's thread "Washington Post: Black only event calls protesters racist" was going very well, and I don't understand why it was shut down.

I thought cenpuppie's remark.

Kickass dialogue we got goin though!

Was right on the money, and I would have liked to have replied, on the thread.

I also have to wonder how many people come here to read these threads, and how much traffic they get. I would suspect that these threads get a lot of traffic, so why would ATS want to shut them down.

Kick out the offending parties, but let the dialogue continue.

Ah racism the great American pastime.

when we should be worried about policy we worry about race, when it comes to Obama. And he is still half white.

but racism is something special in America isn't it.

African american , Latino american, Italian american, notice something not patriotic? putting other countries in front of America.

do British black people call themselves African british? no, they are just British

can you name any other country that does that besides America?

We seem to be really good at segregating ourselves, and it's perfectly acceptable .

we make jokes about how one race is cooler than another , but we don't condemn it, we put it on MTV.

we say we have pride in our country but we let people live here and own businesses, without learning the language , or even emigrate here legally.

then we get flustered when it gets out of control and start throwing slurs.

we wonder why other countries think we are idiots living in our own little bubble.

because we are.

I doubt it's a Problem with Worldwide ATS members, just the american ones

I'm not racist one bit, I hate everyone equally.

But I agree, less racism is always a positive thing. But the subject of "what makes one a racist" is something we should discuss at one point or another with open eyes.

I have many "racist" friends, some are raised to hate this or that race, while others have had nothing bad luck with them and tend to steer away and dislike the many because of the few.

But despite the reasoning behind it, it's not needed on these forums, there are plenty out there that will let you voice your hatred til your hearts content.

I hasten to add that I'm not a racist.

Should we not be reminded that we have an option to ignore members? It's really easy.

Meanwhile the Rules of Conduct should be enough for the moderators to take action on blatant racism.

We are asked to keep a civil tongue and although it is hard sometimes, it can be done. I know that I sometimes need to bite said tongue. I trust the moderators will inform me when I get out of line and I'll try to follow the rules or leave ATS.

My advice is - MODERATE more vigourously.

That leaves us with the moderators being called racists by those who get hammered under this new order. I sincerely hope they'll be able to withstand the pressure. After a while the unwanted people have left and the rest are being civil.

And as a side note I'd like to remind you all that our beloved Saviour was from the middle east - one could almost say - palestinian.
I'll hazard a guess that his skin wasn't milky white...

SO, I agree, racism is for ignorant fools so is reverse racism, I have always believed that.

I do not see black or white, red or yellow, when I see people, well I do see it physically, but I do not treat people as being from different races, I treat them a equals until they treat me differently, then they are screwed, no matter their race.

We all have red blood, and grey brain matter between our ears, that's all that matters.

You know the N Word?

You know what I'm referring to there.

I was taught by the Dictionary meaning, having nothing to do with race whatsoever.

It means, an ignorant person, regardless of race, being stupid and or ignorant.

So, a fine reason to me, to deny ignorance, because I have known far more white people who fit that description, than black men.

Educating one's self without bigotry, racism, and tolerance towards others ways of thinking should be all of mankinds goals, unfortunately, it rarely, if ever is just that.

So, to me, those who do not Deny Ignorance do fit that role well.

I choose not to use that word though, because it is often mistaken for something it is not, connotating towards racism, and I see it as something I would gladly see erased from the Dictionary, only because of the ignorance placed upon the word as connotating to racism, because as I mentioned before it only means an ignorant person, to me, and nothing more.

Anyone who uses the word in the connotation as a hateful, ignorant insult, to me, is just exactly what they call the person they are directing it towards, ignorant.

Flagged and submitted to D.I.G.G..

Actually, I got warnings from mods for posting about the media race baiting. Somehow posting the MSM's/Democrats attacking Americans as racist, is in itself racist. I find it interesting tat this thread pops up at the exact same time the MSM is at its peak fear mongering level.

I've been reading these forums a long time and while I do see white on black racism very occasionally, I much more often see racism towards whites. Pointing that out is not racist. If you think it is, well then maybe you have some race issues of your own.

Disagreeing with Obama does not make you racist. The accusation is based solely on the skin color of the critics. How ironic eh?

I see the white fundie redneck label thrown around more than any other, as well.

I am sure the mods will put a stop to this.

It is so easy to get caught up in this.

I feel we have an obligation to ourselves and the rest of the world to get this worked out, each in our own hearts and minds, so that we can understand what it is, and what we need to do to cultivate a change in ourselves. We can't run away from discussion about what we perceive to be causes, or ways of propagating race-based bias, but I agree fully that in HAVING these discussions, to understand, more fully, the problem and its implications, we have to do so with respect and sometimes even careful choice of words.

When I state my opinion, or belief that can be construed by some, as racist, or when I call someone out on THEIR belief and they assume I am calling THEM a racist, the result is really the same. Meaningful debate is eliminated.

In my opinion, this is maybe the ONLY issue in the world on which we CANNOT 'agree to disagree.' We can mince words, and justify our position and even claim to be fighting on the 'good' side of racism, if there is one, but the result is always the same. The hate is perpetuated, in one direction or another and the issue is never sufficiently addressed to arrive at a solution.

We can't hide behind the fear of being labeled by someone and I sincerely believe that this applies to both sides of any issue. Any discussion about race is going to get heated. We have people that call each other 'idiots' for expressing their views.

If we can't even discuss simple issues without a moderate amount of decorum and respect for each other, the prospect of addressing a profound subject like racism is going to be nearly impossible.

Perhaps what I'm saying is that I have witnessed the increased use of negatively inflammatory race-based terms on the forums. I have found myself vehemently defending my own views, which may vacillate to one extreme of the coin or the other, but the amount of respect and decency that we express to each other, out of respect for our humanity, and nothing more, needs to be considered and shifted in favor of more dignified conversation.

Racially based negativity is a huge issue, but I'm afraid it's just a tangential effect of a lack of civility in almost every other area of human interaction.

I'm all for eliminating insults and implications of ignorance at disagreement and support entirely the healthy exchange and debate of ideas, including racism. It's going to be a difficult task to remove the tumor that racism has grown to in the media and even here on ATS, but if a genuine effort isn't made, starting with me, then we're just doomed. Maybe the best we can hope for it to vastly reduce it's size, so that it no longer interferes with the blood flow to our brains.

Discussion of the topic in general may be on topic, but the act of racism is not.

Just sayin'

Excellent post.

All of this bickering going back and forth is merely dividing us, setting us against them.

I for one, would like to read topics on ATS without race or ethnicity being the center point, like the thread made by KSPigpen, now THAT's a worthwhile topic for ATS.

Time to slap my thinking cap back on.

The problem with that word is that, despite its defined meaning, it takes on an entirely different meaning in the real world. If the word "yard" suddenly became a racist slur, despite the fact that its defined meaning is not racist, it would instantly become racist, moderated on forums, banned from TV, etc. Flipping the game board over, you'd be surprised what words are allowed and not allowed on television in other countries around the world. It really puts into perspective the "sticks and stones" saying.

If the culture says the "N word" is racist and offends most people, then it becomes racist and, whether you believe it to be or not, you should be careful when using it.
