In some small way is it not racist to look down upon and alienate people who are racists? Is that not what racism is all about? Just because they have different beliefs and values doesn't mean they should be singled out. That being said, I don't apply this type of thinking when hearing racist comments because of my beliefs and values. I bash racists just as much as anyone else. But unlike racists, at least I can admit when I'm wrong.

No...racism is about discrimination, abuse and prejudice against someone based on their RACE.... hence the term Racism

You are either thinking about bigotry or something else?

Most Jews are white, as far as I know the KKK is white and they hate Jews, not because of their color.

You said to be against racists or "singling them out" was racist.
I was just pointing out that's not the case.

Bravo! It was about time that you stepped in and clarified things for all those of us [there is no us!] who post racist remarks all in the name of free speech. Let me tell you something about free speech: free speech does not include hate speech -at least not in civilized countries like those of Europe.

As a marginally off-topic retort to this statement:

I retain the right to freely voice hate speech. If I hate racism I shall voice that hate freely and without fear of recrimination. Your so-called civilised European countries have gone down a road that merely removes all opposition to whatever mantra happens to be in vogue.

It is essential to highlight this or we are doomed to fall into the trap.

Back on topic: I keep forgetting people really are that ignorant. An OP that is er, how do you Americans say?

"Self-evident"?

I think that in a very vague sense it is racism. You don't have to be a different color for a group of people to hate you. Skinheads, religious fanatics and such are racists to all kinds of colors and creeds who don't believe in their way of thinking. Then again like you said I may be thinking of bigotry or something else.

The quote you have in your signature, FYI, about "how old would you be if you didn't know how old you are" is attributed to Artie Shaw.

I was just thinking here. We are any color we want to be online. All we have to do is change the font color.

I was wondering how the racists would handle Obama being president.

As I suspected, there is nothing the man can do that they will approve of.

Having said that, I really don't care for much of what Obama has done.

He promised transparency, and there is none.

And he's said NOTHING about re-investigating 9-11.

He speaks well, but has failed on many campaign promises.

Go figure.

besides saying 'damn, can we get a little less spam in our inbox?'

I'd like to know what's going to happen to all the people here who like to play the race card in an effort to win an argument. To me, many of them are the true racists and bigots in this world.

Same for the ones who like to try to spread 'white guilt', as they are some of the racists as damaging as the white power types.

Or are we going to let them slide because its fashionable to hate on white people, regardless of what race you are?

Well to be anti-racist is not racist.
I can assure you of that.

To "single out racists" as you put it, is also not racist.

Don't know where this is going or what the point is?

Is that not what racists do, single out a group of people that they don't like.

Right.... I'll try and make this easy.

Racism is discrimination or prejudice based on race.

To dislike some who is racist has nothing to do with race.
Usually it is a moral issue.

I'm sure you're just being ignorant and trying to annoy me but I'll just carry on and try and answer you anyway.

How you can think that to dislike or be against a racist, is actually in itself racist, is beyond me?

I can't help you any more.

Go and read a dictionary.

Racism is a historical problem, not easily removed from the cultures of this planet. Israel, Islam, even home in the US, we will see it. Nice to see someone taking a stand on a discussion group. Racism should not be tolerated from either point of view.

Races, color of skin, etc. are simply adaptations for environments. For example, most dark skinned races are near the equator where the skin must have more protection from the sun. In those regions, people don't dress heavily to keep warm, hence the skin is overexposed to UV. As we all know, that can cause skin cancer, which can metastasize and cause internal cancers and death. So, it great to have darker skin in warm regions.

On the other side of the coin, in the colder regions of this beautiful planet, people wear protective covering to stay warm. Therefore, the skin is protected from the UV rays of the sun. However, the skin must be transparent enough to allow the production of Vitamin D. Hence, hair must be able to let more light through, therefore you have lighter hair color and lighter skin.

Darker skin tones became associated with the working class, as they were outdoors getting a tan in the northern latitudes, like Europe. Hence, they were considered below the wealthy class, which spent more time out of the sun and had fairer skin. This built up a lasting prejudice, as families wanted their daughters to "marry up" not down, and the poor working class citizen was seen as lowlife.

Today, we all mix, many more work indoors, education is making the field more level. Now we are hoping to judge people "on the content of their character" (MLK), not on their color.

Although race never had a place, it is easy to see, from an anthropological point of view, how this mess all started. Let's deny the ignorance of it all now.

That being said, prejudice is different than preference. Personally, I prefer girls with dark brown hair, fair skin. I like cars that are red. I like countertops that are blue. Let's not confuse preferences with prejudices. Prejudices are unreasonable. People can't usually (exceptions like Michael Jackson) significantly change their appearance from what they were given at birth, and probably should not. The father of George Washington reputedly told him something along these lines: "George, you got your good looks from your parents. You are not allowed to take credit for that. You can only take credit for what you do, as your character is what defines who you are."

So, let's look more on the internal nature. The Bible says God sees not as man sees, but He looks on the heart. I like that. Let's have a little more discernment, a little less fast judgment. Let's take the time to get to know each other. Let's hear with both ears. Let's deny ignorance in a friendly way.

Is that ok with you?

Dear God,

Help me, I have Deja Vu

Deja Vu Deja Vu Déjà vu Déjà vu

Déjà vu

Haven't we been through this before, beeeefooooreee?

I feel so strange.

Déjà vu , Ad infinitum

"Great fleas have little fleas upon their backs to bite 'em,
And little fleas have lesser fleas, and so ad infinitum.
And the great fleas themselves, in turn, have greater fleas to go on,
While these again have greater still, and greater still, and so on."

I think you can understand what I'm trying to say but seeing that I can't properly articulate what I'm trying to say properly, I'll just leave it alone. And thanks for the suggestive reading but I think I'll pass.

How we can imagine to discuss here on ATS on an eventual contact with people from other worlds and other races Extraterrestrial, or other Alien species if we, here on the Earth, do not know neither our neighbors, their traditions, their irony, their culture?

Don't they love also their children as we do?

RACISM is “not to accept the other like our similar” and it is the FUEL for the WARS.

We are only "many and one" on this planet.

We do not have to never forget it.

Gotta agree with RR. Seems all the hatred towards other groups in the past history of ATS, and I think just about everyone here knows who I'm referring to, has been condoned by the management. Now that Obama is President, and after former President Carter has stated a majority of dissent towards Obama's agenda and policies is racist, ATS decides to declare racism is present in ATS due to the "the intensely hateful political environment" with no examples of what they've seen.
