Why? What's the problem? They had no problem releasing the lurid sexual details of Clinton but, now, when it affects them, they want to hide.

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Top GOP leaders said Wednesday they oppose the release of hundreds of fresh images showing the abuse of Iraqi prisoners, saying they could compromise the prosecution of those soldiers implicated in the acts and further inflame tensions in Iraq.

The congressional leaders made the statements after lawmakers gathered behind close doors to view what several described as "appalling" and "horrifying" pictures, slides and video clips of abuse and sexual acts.

"Take our word for it. They're disgusting," said Sen. Mitch McConnell of Kentucky, the majority whip.

McConnell, Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist, R-Tennessee, and Sen. John Warner, chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee, all said the pictures should be kept under wraps.

"In my view, and it's solely my view, these pictures, at this time, by the executive branch, should not be released into the public domain," Warner, R-Virginia, said, citing the possibility that more images of abuse end up "inspiring the enemy."

I swear, repugnants make me sick. One (Inhofe) was even questioning why we were making such a big deal about this. Repugnants are a really depraved and secretive people. Let us see what this "Iraqi liberation" is all about? WHAT'S THE PROBLEM???

i'm against releasing more pictures merely because it isnt going to bring more to light the situation. the situation is already under a microscope. the world knows about it and i dont see the point in showing more humiliating pictures...and thats humiliating to those in the pics, not the politicians so dont take my comment out of context.

we already know...torture bad, many pictures, price to pay.

time to stop making this a political problem, its a civil and human rights problem. its not about political parties.

Let me ask you this Colonel. What is the point of releasing more pics? Haven't they already demonstrated that the abuses are occurring? What will showing more pics gain for them. They have their proof beyond reasonable doubt. There is no reason for the public to see any more of them. The pics released so far have already covered the spectrum.

I think the DEMS are pushing for the release of these pics because they are borderline porn. Since Dems prove to be, shall we say, of loose morals then maybe that is why they want to see the pics.

It goes to show the systemic abuse that is going on in Iraq. Furthermore, what was the purpose of releasing the Clinton transcripts on the internet?

I think that was established when the first batch of photos was released, which were taken over a long period. If that is the only reason that you support their release, then good luck standing on that platform.

Once again, you try to deflect attention away when your topics bite you in the ass. Just to satisfy you, the American people had a right to know what the President was doing. He was the one who said that he had nothing to hide, so why should there be a problem if transcripts are released?

we already know about the abuses, releasing more pics doesnt mean we'll know about them all over again. the point is moot now. we dont need more pics to know what we already know. bad things happened to people that shouldnt have happened by a select few retarded people in our military.

as for the transcripts...well i wasnt aware they were available on the internet but my guess would probably be....
THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT!!!

which has JACK# to do with the abuse/torture in iraq.

this duck and dive bull# is BEYOND annoying.

the two are not EVEN close to being similar so whatever point it is you're trying to make is obscure and meaningless.

I'd say release them for one reason only.

The Pentagon doesn't hold the only copies and their value is such that their leak is inevitable.

Better to get it over and done with in one hit.

Personally,I didn't watch the beheading video and I doubt I'd watch a torture/abuse video. The comments made by Congressmen were honest enough for me,there was no sign of whitewash or downplaying them just disgust.

But I still say get it out and over and done with because the alternative is that they will leak out one by one.We are talking about hundreds of pics.In this case more is less.

YUO all should listen to JB1. You want all the sordid details out now as opposed it being leaked out around September and October..drip...drip...drip.

i seriously doubt more pics will make a difference.

showing them publically doesnt mean squat. why?

because the details are already out, not all the images perhaps but we already know what happened already.

of course they should have released them all from the get go but did they? no! why? politics! it has nothing to do with doing the right thing but with political positioning

i despise all politicians!

Okay, the damage has been done. What could they possibly have left to show that would be any worse than what we have already seen.

The only reason to just go ahead and release them all now is to get people like you to shut up and quit harassing them.

It is necessary to release all the evidence to get everything out in the open and purge the evil from the White House and this nation. If you keep them, they will just leak out and the issue will fester and become a greater sore on this nation but people like you COOL HAND don't want that. You want to hide the evil. You want to hide the truth. Well, there will be a reckoning.

How is keeping basically redudant pictures out of the public eye the same as hiding the truth?

The only reason that it is festering and soring is because of the upcoming elections. This is another lame Democrapic attempt to show that we should not be over there for any reason. In this case it is because we just can't handle ourselves.

Do you honestly think that more pics of the same thing taken during the same time will matter to the average American?

Colonel, it appears that some of your beloved Democrats don't want more photos released either:

"Sen. Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) described the images as "more detailed and more graphic than the pictures that have been released publicly," referring to the disturbing photos of Iraqis being abused at Abu Ghraib prison that surfaced two weeks ago, and which Islamic terrorists claim led to this week's revenge beheading of American Nick Berg.

"Normally, I side with disclosure and openness, but in this case, these photos are evidence," Schumer said, indicating that he favors keeping the lid on the alarming pictures, as Vice President Dick Cheney and Sen. John Warner (R-Va.) have urged."

Whoa, now you are talking about my boy, John Warner.

He's a good one. He is one of the few Republicans I like, who opposes the draft, etc.

I say release the pictures, I don't care. Europe is already being duped with fake pictures, real pictures, and state run news biased to the hilt.

They have manufactured the hate for Bush Co. over there.

At least we'd get the real deal here. Although I'd like to see what Fox does if they do release them.

Well, I haven't seen the pics and I can't imagine how worse they can be from what was already shown to my virgin eyes. If they are monstrously worse, then maybe the repugnants have a point---maybe they should show some and blur the bad parts.

You can probably already find them on the net if you look hard enough.

Actually, I'm going to do that now.

oh man you goatse teh foo-nay today!

but seriously....i cant imagine them being worse, just more of the same. blur em for the media, we've seen enough graphic crap for awhile already. i think the act of full disclosure is what counts at this point.

I see what you're getting CF but i fear that releasing more photos will do no good, i too wanna see the Bush Admin rot in hell for this but the evidence is enough.

A thought just occurred to me, aren't we discussing an illegal act? People are being charged for breaking the UCMJ, and I am sure that there will be some kind of civil action taken in the future. It says in the box above the discussion However, please be aware that intense personal insults, board-stalking, and discussion of illegal acts are still forbidden.

If it is a violation, it is kind of funny seeing as how a mod started it and all.

Now back to the debate: There is no need to release them other than giving the dems another attacking point on the current administration.
