The natural rate of bird extinction is one bird per century. In the last thirty years alone, 21 bird species have become extinct. At present, 192 are classified as Critically Endangered. On the very edge of extinction. Without immediate action, many will not be here in ten years’ time.

Two dogs have died others have become ill after walking on mostly North Shore beaches, but birds and fish have washed up dead on beaches as far north as Omaha.
Authorities are warning people to keep pets and children away from beaches and to keep out of contact with the sea until authorities can work out what is causing the problem. Toxic algae is one suggestion.
