Way to go, matrix! I miss having access to massive numbers of machines for SETI. ...not the accompanying headaches, mind you, just the crunching power! Earlier today I was looking over my parts bin to see what I could assemble, but decided it wouldn't be anything worth the electricity. Shame to have all those 16 and 32MB DIMMs going to waste.

Good luck with the OC'ing.

In parts I have enough to put together at least 5 more boxes, I never trow anything away, even if its broken, but for most things I'm missing small crucial things like cases, ram, a CPU and heatsinks. If they were all the same type CPU's I would be able to make at least 2 or 3 working boxes out of them, but they are an AMD K6-3, AMD Athlon, Pentium 3 700(thing clocked 966 in its day) and 2 more P2 266's.

Power isn't a problem for me since we have large cooling cells for apples and pears that suck up a whole lot more power then any of my computers can ask. So its not even noticable on the bill.

I also have a Beowulf cluster setup, 10 P2 266's working as one, its down at the moment since I'm moving, but when it runs as a cluster I can't run Seti on it. I haven't found a single Seti distribution thats compatible with my linux setup for the cluster. Would be fun though to run seti on that monster too

When its back up, I'll try different distributions for it, maybe even setup an 8 way Windows 2003 cluster, but that would make me not having a single *Nix box in the house, that would make me feel dirty ...

Although, I could always use 8 for a W2003 cluster and the 2 leftover for linux presence hehe.

I was never on any kind of TEAM that I was aware of......I was just running the SETI at home proggy........can I SOMEHOW get my units transfered to this TEAM I am attempting to join? ........I wonder if it would even be worth the bother? it should be WORTH something, I ran the proggy every night for over a year.........

RG, every work unit counts, and we would love to have you onboard with us. When you get joined to a team, your credit counts toward the team's stats. You still retain control of the work you have done, so if ever you wanted to leave your work unit would follow you. Perish that thought. Who would ever want to leave a team as great as ours?

If you need more help joining, just give a shout. Do you know how much credit you have built up? If you have been running it for a year or more then you should be doing pretty well.

Here's the info from an earlier posting. Good luck; I hope it does not cause you too much grief.

Hi, marg. That's what we like to hear! I will pull the work-around from earlier in this thread so you don't have to dig through the pages. Joining can be a little problematic. You will need the e-mail address for your SETI account and the password for the account.

It is a little tricky but do-able.

-Go to this URL: Join the ATS-SETI Team and use the reload feature on your browser until it comes up correctly.

-enter the email and password for your SETI account, then submit the request. It will probably fail. If not, (keep your fingers crossed) then you are done.

-if you get the the error page, change the URL in the address bar from
setiathome.ssl.berkeley.edu...
to
setiathome2.ssl.berkeley.edu...
>>note the "2"

That's great news. Anything that makes the process simpler has got to help. Thanks for hooking up with us. What's your SETI username? I didn't see you, but it is possible that the info has not worked through the system yet.

Just a quick note here to say hello and welcome to some new members of the ATS SETI Team over the last few days .

Sam95519, PurdueNuc, breezo, Darkblade71, & StephenMc

Thanks for contributing the time to install SETI@Home,those extra CPU cycles to run it, and ultimately the work units. That kind of community participation is what will get us a respectable showing in the ratings. The lack of updated comparison statistics is killing me. I never was big on suspense.

I urge you to keep hunting for SETI users who may not yet belong to a team, or just want to join up with our active and supportive community.

We are doing great!

Hi all!!

Belated greetings to all new members and for the fantastic results we are achieving because *you've* decided to join the team!!

It would be nice to reach the 150kWU "barrier" before the programme finishes and transfers to BOINC totally...

Can we do it???

Here's where we are (according to SETI@work)

81 active members: 229 inactive members, 228.4 WU's per day, 139 250WU's total at Mon May 24 09:01:30 2004 UTC !!

Global position =

662 -1 ArtBell 139 182WU's

663 SETI@sff-net 139 175WU's

664 AboveTopSecret.com 139 152WU's

Notice *that* - we are two places behind Team Art Bell - by 30WU's only! - so should "overtake" them today!!

Well done all - let's get 150kWU's!!

"A Hit, a Very Palpable Hit"

d1k/X-File has struck a mighty blow for Team ATS! That should up us to the 626th spot or thereabouts and many steps closer to the 150k goal. We are on a roll. Any more volunteers?

And, lnocked *me* into 8th place, too, I might add Spectre!!

Yes, a mighty blow indeed - 150kWU's is well within reach - would any "inactive members" consider coming back "on board" please - your efforts now, in these closing days, would be very much appreciated by us all here!!

(And new members are always welcome, of course!!)

And knocked me just bellow the 50th place that I have been trying to maintain, every time I get to it I'm soon knocked down by a newcomer. S'all good I guess.
Seti@work says I'll be back at 50 in three weeks.

Yes, it's infuriating, isn't it Ranger!!
I can remeber the time (many moons ago!!) when Bob88 was "King of the Hill" and *I* (believe it or not) was in second place... You'll remember when Spectre climbed way past, and just look at DirtyDevil too!!

Such, though, is the appeal of ATS SETI@home team - *every* new member is most welcomed and their efforts are appreciated by us all - 150kWU's on the horizon for sure!!

He knocked me down to 24th place too, but I'll be back in 23'd place within 12 hours or so
Just need 12 more units to pass Michael Bradley and then I'll be on my way taking ModestMike, who seems to be running seti on a single box. His average time is much faster then mine, but don't be fooled, I have several machines and my average time/WU is pulled down alot because of the Dual P2 machine doing 18 hours average per WU per CPU. It puts out 2 WU's at a time though :p Hes propably producining 6 or 7 WU's per day, while I'm doing up to 20 a day at the moment.

After that AirK and Phil will be my targets, both seem to be running seti activly, but also on single boxes.
Phil hasn't done a unit since the 20th though.

I should be able to reach 20th spot by the time Phase 1 of seti is over
(that is if Its over before I get to move everything, cause when I move I'll be adding the P2 cluster to the Seti group, 10 P2 266@300, and the last Athlon XP 1800+@1850.
