As the original SETI@Home project prepares to wrap up and switch over to the new BOINC software, I would like to encourage all ATS members to fire up their machines and crunch away like never before. Other things we can do to improve our overall standing in the final results include:

-if you are currently on the team but having problems with the SETI software, let us know and maybe we can get you cruching again

-recruiting friends, relatives, co-workers, etc. to join the ATS SETI team and add their units to the tally. SETI is easy to install and use; even my parents run it!

-see if people you know who belong to another teams that aren't as active or don't have the same since of community ours does, would be interested in joining up.

If you have any other idea of what we can do, please post them here. Right now we are #844 and every little bit of effort will improve the team's stats when the final count is in. Thanks for everyone's efforts!

Hi Spectre!!

Thanx for the "invite" for others to join the ATS SETI@home team!!

As you say, SETI@home is in the process of being replaced by BOINC, which is another distributed network program. Although we have no real idea of when the actual transitition will take place, we feel that SETI@home will close within the next three to four months.

However, results obtained will be archived by SETI@home and it would be great if we ie ATS, can increase our "final score" before we lose the chance to do so, by "crunching" as many work units (WU's) as possible while we can.

As Spectre says, if you need any further information, guidance or help about running the program, then please ask!

We look forward to you joining us!!

I have someone who is willing to merge his accounts with ATS, adding about 9k units to the cause. It has not happened yet, for he is getting an error, "The page you selected is temporarily down or disabled. Sorry for the inconvenience. Please try again later." I got the same when I tried to look at my stats earlier. Maybe it will come back online soon.

I hope I can get him to join ATS in general. He would be a source of good posts.

Excellent Spectre!!

9kWU's? That means more demotion for yours truly, doesn't it?!!
Yes, I hope your friend can make it!!

I've emailed my "other" group tonight, and will report back on any "takers" - I don't think amy are existing S@h'ers but one never knows!!

Let's go ATS BOINC and SETI@home temas!

It's a demotion done out of love! Actually, I don't think it will be in one lump, but spread out among a few accounts. Your status may still be safe.

Good luck with your group.

Thank you and your cousin, Ranger! Yes, the SETI teams page seems to be having "technical difficulties" right now, but please keep trying. I will check back periodically myself and update the thread if I find that it has been sorted out. The more machines the merrier!

Yes, Ranger, that message is infuriating, isn't it?

Please tell your cousin to persist, though, 'cos, even now, new people continue to join SETI@home (I'm watching for the 5 000 000 member to join currently).

But isn't the ranking for BOINC based on average recent activity rather than total WU's?
9K would certainly reflect highly on ATS and its members, though.

I have been getting the same error on the SETI page for like 3 weeks now. I mentioned something about it, but I think that it got lost. I am really eager to join the ATS team but I only have like 30 WU's to contribute. -Muzz

Sorry, Muzz, I must have missed your post. I just tried to set up a new original-SETI account, but got a similar error when I tried to register. Boy, am I going to feel like a schmuck if I find out that they have quit taking new team requests or something since BOINC is nearly ready.

Muzz (or anyone), if you already have an email address registered with SETI, try this link and see if it works any better. It is a slight change to the original URL based on a message I found in their support forum.

I'm signed up already, but tried the link anyway. It doesn't work, and I get one of those Internal server error things.

I just added a new machine to my SETI kit! I got somme "garbage" working on the final push. I found it on the curb last night, the old owner put it in the trash but the machine works!!!

Its a P1 133MHz with 64MB Ram and win98

The fan on the processor was making an infernal sound, I think thats why it was put in the trash but I was able to fix that.

It has two hard drives, I plan on putting the second one in a harddriveless 486 I recently aquired.

It gets funny because the old owner left all his files intact on there and I found out that it belonged to my old gym techer, its full of school files!!!!
....not to mention a broken shortcut to a no longer existing porn folder.

Hi all!!

BOINC links

www.abovetopsecret.com...

www.abovetopsecret.com...

www.abovetopsecret.com...

etc. Hope that helps?

As regards the "joining team" issue - well, it's been long reported and a cause for concern, for sure. I remeber Deus Ex having problems too, and I don't think they were resolved? However, as I wrote earlier, people *are* continuing to join SETI@home (if not the ATS team), as the numbers continue to increase everytime I submit another WU. The image below shows recent increases in numbers of total members of SETI@home (from SETI Stats)

Hope that helps?

Well done on acquiring another "cruncher" Ranger!!

Well, it's strange that people don't erase files, isn't it?? (Mind you, if it was "thrown out", I guess it wasn't suspected that that someone would come along and "borrow it"?!)

Look forward to an increase in WU completions!!
