Laura, I agree to an extent, my debate with symmetric does seem to be going round in circles, but at least it was civil.
And I appreciate your opinions and your effort to 'mediate'.
Again, I disagree with the majority that masonwtcher was posting, but it was civil and respectful debate and I have no problem whatsoever with either member, if anything I respect them for standing up for their beliefs, even though I disagree with them.

However, I will not stand idly by and allow someone blatantly insult me for no reason and with no supportive arguement other than I have a different viewpoint.
If instructed by admin then I would remove my post, simply out of respect for this site as a whole, but until then they remain.
I have stood up for myself and my beliefs in much more threatening and dangerous situations.
I am not ashamed of my beliefs; freedom of choice, freedom of will and freedom of thought and will fight for them till my last breath.
I firmly beleive Islam is the antithesis of these ideals and in a world where these ideals are under threat from all sides I still believe Islam is the single biggest threat.

I always find it laughable that someone can quote ANC rhetoric in support of such a repressive belief system; religous dogma and political rhetoric all rolled into one.

Oh do not worry Freeborn, I agree, I think insulting someone over thier opinons or views is childish to say the least.

That may indeed be for the best.
This was exactly the reason I more or less stopped posting for a while.

In threads like this the people who take part, myself included, tend to have pretty entrenched views so no matter what 'the other side' posts none of us change our opinion and we end up going round in circles, but still, I enjoy the debate and banter and occassional raised hackles.
But outright insults I will not tolerate from anyone.
I try my best to be respectful in debate, I expect the same from others.
Obviously sometimes tempers get frayed and I accept and enjoy that, but this member went way over top immediately upon entering the thread.
Bang out of order in my book.

well as i said we have had a good debate and it helps others to understand points of view but to start name calling.. is ..

and im gland you took out the insult and seen that just because someone insults you no matter how "under the radar it is" its still an insult and is against ATS house rules

just because this is heated debate with lots of views does not mean we have to resort to basic name calling..

I find it crass and not worth my time responding to any posts that insult me or i would be just as bad as them.

I really think you need to get your head out of your never regions and take a look outside..... I don't know which part of the UK you live but maybe you don't live where there are tons of Muslims to be able to see what others see.... you are blind to all that is happening here... have you not seen the communties in certain areas where every single person living there is Muslim? Why do you think that is? I shall tell you, it's because these Muslims moved in and wanted to build their mosques, build their schools and build their takeaways with halal meats and they succeeded which forced all the non-muslims out of that area because as you may well know different beliefs & faiths have never got on side by side since the beginning of time.... these people are different and only want to abide by their rules!! What they fail to realise is that they have moved here to England and here we have our own rules...

Why are they incorporating everything about their life into English Society?

We never had any problems with Chinese, Indians, Jews so why is it that the Muslims or Fanatics shall we say choose to disrespect where they live and where they have been allowed to live? Bakri was one such person recieving free housing and free speech and look what he was about?

If you want to live in a peaceful nation you better be prepared to live the way of that nation!!!

If you want to start an uprising in that nation then you had better be prepared to fight!

I actually ment women in general, living in my country or Europe, muslim or not..
It was a thought from a universal perspective, i care about other cultures too..
It hurts me when when those young kids call our women whores, it also hurts me when those women are not allowed to leave their houses.If only covered in burqa's.

We are talking about Muslims who follow The Koran and as part of their faith they have to try to impose Sharia upon us all, by any means necessary

You've said that a few times: can you post any evidence to support your claims?
As far as I understand it, muslims are enjoined to follow the laws of the country they live in. There is a qur'anic concept called "gradualism" which calls for muslims to try to persuade non-believers that shari'ah is the right way, bit by bit, but this must be accomplished within the law of the land. Since arbitration is so, they are following their teachings & doing their religious duty. Just like any other religious/political movement. There's also a concept called "fitnah" which is religious persecution/ethnic oppression & is strictly forbidden: the qur'an calls it "worse than slaughter" & thus promises severe divine retribution for doing it, even against enemies.
I've asked for a clear statement on this matter from some online islamic scholars & if I get a reply, I'll post it here. These people do seem to take it all pretty seriously tho, getting opinions from world renowned muslims, so I'm not expecting it to be quick.

the covering up of women is a cultural thing, not an Islamic thing, so to oppose it is not anti islamic- if the veil is so empowering for muslim women * to quote the defence some muslims offer* why don't the men do it

It is about high time, women are treated equally the same as males. Call me a feminist all you want. Women have been demonised, underpaid, discriminated against for far too long.

It is about hightime us females took back the power and forced our rights on those who think they are better than us.

Can you imagine the out cry if we went out on the streets demanding the end to discrimination,weither it be in religion, weither it be about race, weither it be about employment discrimination.
