What term would you use to replace "Novice" that insinuates a lower "status" than "Solid"?

Fluid? Perhaps Gaseous?

I think there should be a point that a person here tries to strive for. The work laid out in the best threads should be rewarded.

A well thought out thread should garner the author a bit of recognition and perhaps somewhere needed to be a place to start.

Originally posted by waynosriddle6, isn't it only right and proper that concerns are raised so they can be addressed? How else are the mods to know how members feel? Chissler replied and I am happy with that.

I agree that if someone has a concern with something, that they should be able to talk about it, especially to the mods. What I meant was that it seemed like several people where acting incredibly ungrateful and like they were deserving of something that, by the current system, they were not entitled to. I hope that makes sense, I know what I want to say, but just not how to say it right now.

I don't exactly agree with flags being apart of the system, as I see it as too easy for people to make a thread and just have their friends flag it, regardless of how well the mods try to keep that under control. Or how it completely excludes people like me who will probably start two threads in ten years, and thus be unable to gain any flags.

My main problem that I was trying to voice in my earlier post was that it seemed like people weren't even giving the mods a chance to see what aspects were working and which things needed to change before they started complaining.

I'd rather there be nothing on the profiles of members with 20-50 flags instead of "Novice".

I don't think 50 or even 100 flags is too high a threshold if the point is to reward thread-starting. And "Novice" makes me feel like it's asking people to go easy on me if I start a thread because I don't really know what I'm doing yet.

It may be true that I don't know what I'm doing, but I don't want everyone else to know that right up front

edit to respond to unlimitedpossibilities in the next post: thanks for the recognition, but I stole the idea from redhatty

As americandingbat said, "Tinfoil" or "Tinfoiler" would be good as a replacement for novice.

Perhaps "Hydrogen" ?

If you have an issue with something, you can always u2u the staff. But since we all work odd hours its often more expediant to file a complaint.

Complaints pop up in a separate forum and allow the staff as a whole to weight in on the issue at hand. This includes Mods, Supers, Admin and site owners.

Well yeah, if a reward system is in place, it is not bad to take your reward in stride, but the reward should never be the primary focus.

I see what you mean, but 50 stars, flags, and posts for the first status is a bit steep.

I sort of jokingly suggested "Noob" in the mod forum, but doubt that will gain much traction with the "Big Brass".

Assigning titles in a hierarchy is easier said than done, and it's a given that no matter what Bill may decide, someone will be deeply offended and/or tie it to some sort of NWO conspiracy.

This *IS* ATS, after all, and we have a reputation to uphold.

Why not?

Why not introduce some organic compounds: "Dichlorodifluoromethane"

Here's a whole list...en.wikipedia.org...

Everything on ATS is subject to change.

The only exceptions to the rule are that members must always be treated with respect and the T&C must always be honored.

But aside from that, it's wide open.

Most of my better threads were started before the flag system came along, and I'm only a solid level

I will commit Sepacu at Dawn.

Welcome to the club, brother.

But instead of sepuku, may I suggest just getting piss drunk and having a grand old time?

Spaten Optimator... If you can handle the Gaseous Side Effects, that beer is perfect for that very purpose. I don't know what they put in that stuff but

I kinda like the idea but it looks so... big I guess.

Wow seekerof, haven't seen you in a while... nice to see you again, my old nemesis.

I don't mean to sound like a broken record, but "godlike wisdom" has exactly 13 letters in it. We all know what that means.

Was an option of a site-wide poll ever brought up? It'd be interesting to see how it would pan out if users chose what to call the rankings.

I'm surprised FredT isn't at a Cosmic ranking yet. My only guess is that Cosmic requires 1000/1000/1000.

I am going to wear my Solid moniker with pride....

all the while thinking up thread titles that will both intrigue and infuriate the members until I have achieved noble metal status.

It's definitely more than 1000 flags, because infinite is still only Gold, with 1055 flags.

edit to add: so is budski, with 1861 flags. I think the cutoff is probably 2500.

Dave Rabbit is Cosmic, with 2870 flags. Still looking for someone in the 2000-2500 range. Yes, I am obsessive.
