I was looking at the wording below the contribution part. Where do you find the information to who is what for how ever many applauses list? I didn't see it in this thread - of the count of applauses needed to what wording is on the Avatar.

I'm all for status indicators and all that, but I hope that users (especially the new ones) don't place an automatic bias on it. I can already see the "Well ___ is ___ while you are only a Novice, so his/her opinion is more valid
" or "___ is a deep thinker, unlike you
" appear in topics and arguments.

Well since people are p&ss@ng and moaning.
What about a special tag for reads alot of threads haha.I come here mostly for a good read in my evenings and to get different views on current events.
Im never going to be a great poster or thread starter and thats fine with me most threads i read someone has already said what i would of said so i leave it be unlike some who just repeat what others have said multiple times.
I never got the whole points buzz anyway?

*Anyway check out my mad novice steez*

I'm So Sorry...

...this is going to sound so freakin' cheesy, I honestly don't know if I should post it, but oh well, here goes.

I know some of my fellow members are concerned about all this, and many of you are frankly pissed off about it. On one level, I'm tempted to say "the dude abides", but on another level, I totally understand. Honest.

As I mentioned earlier, even mods aren't privy to the inner workings of the Overlord. However, when you spend some time around the guy, you pick up a few things.

Here's what I know for sure: Bill truly wants what is best for the ATS community, and that means every single person who can read this.

It's totally understandable that some members may be put off by where they fall in the classification system.

You can -- quite justifiably -- point at one thing or another and declare it "unfair". Heck, I've been a mod for three years, and believe me when I tell you that locks me out of quite a few things I might otherwise try to shoot for. It just goes with the turf, and I'm really not trying to whine about it, just sayin'.

We have a lot of members whose most significant contributions pre-date the implementation of such perks as stars and flags. Does that mean those contributions are worthless? Not just no, but HELL no!

That said, there's still a natural degree of currency when it comes to contributions to our discussions.

As a moderator, these days I find myself mostly occupied with the business of enforcing the T&C -- hopefully while being fair and not too much of a jerkass.

While I can joke around about how being "Solid" makes me a "brother", I'm still left wondering if maybe I can't do something to move things along.

Does being a mod mean that I can't start new threads? No. Hell no!

Does it mean I need to focus exclusively on board business and forget about being a member? Man, I swear it's easy to get caught up in it, but the truth is that being a mod doesn't mean I can't start new threads and bring new subjects to the attention of my brothers and sisters in the ATS community.

So for anyone who may look askance at all this, believe me, I have my own doubts.

But still, speaking truly from the heart, I think something good can come from this.

Am I wrong? You decide.

Wow, now I see why you have the additional tag "Simply stunning insight".

Well said and well put.

So now I can make sense of it a little better. New to this last month or so and wondered what the red lettering was on some of the peoples profiles meant. Were can we go to see video or isnt there any on here?

That's what bothers me. We have members on ATS that have been around for over 5 years, post consistently, and yet fall around the Novice to Solid range, yet there's some newcomers (I won't name names despite the cosmic urge) who are at a much higher level. That's not to say that they didn't deserve to be where they are at, but the system needs to be more balanced for users who have been here longer. I'm assuming over time, the status system will be tweaked and modified when the admins have more information to work with and get more input/suggestions from users.

Did I miss something with the other tag under the first one? Like mine and some others say "This one is aware". So how do tose come about?

Im not fussed to be honest, just having a bit of fun about the colour green! But I agree with you to a degree Majic.

This is a Loyalty Program, no different to Frequent Flyer and Mileage programs behind the concept that I happen to know a fair bit about.

Loyalty programs provide "rewards through altenate currency of point earning" and "status".

That's the formula for a 'golden handcuff' Loyalty programe. You need to brand the ATS levels correctly to encourage those 2 things...point earn and status. And looks like its not working for some as an ecouragement to make points or earn status. they are 2 different things.

Point earn is for the earning side of the ATS business so it needs to be encouraged and status fulfills the 'emotional' side for the member.

The idea is actually a good one, but it does need some rejigging to make people fit into the 2 pronged formula for it to be successful.

Hope it makes sense, alternate currency through points can be quite confusing.

You're not saying it in the same manner, but still. I guess when used positively, it's fine, but it's going to be annoying seeing all the new/uninformed users use it in a negative way.

Okay I am still not sure what you are saying, I think I know but I am not going to say it. It was just the truth. If you knew me as a member you would know I rarely give out large praises unless they are deserved. Although more recently I have been, but they have been deserved!

Nope. That's my hope, my goal and my most fervent desire.

Really.

Despite my Cassandra image here, I am known by long time friends and family as a Pollyanna type who wears rose-colored glasses. (Well actually, we haven't talked much in a while.
)

It's true though.

PS. I really like that bit about "stunning insight." I'll be working on "Godlike wisdom" now. Actually I really hate this kind of thing - brings out my lesser competitive nature. Now I feel like I have to prove myself. Crud. I really hate that. Are you manipulating me?

Love, sofi

I'm not sure exactly what it means but if I could hazard a guess...

What is beginning is the elitism, and stratification of ATS society.

That's the way I feel anyway. But what do I know I'm only a solid.

Oh come on?!?!

It isnt that big of a deal. It is incentive for members. I have incentive to reach Cosmic level and "Godlike wisdom", although I better reach the third applause level first, lol.

I like this new system.

The combination of different classifications for flags/stars/posts vs applause is a good balance in my opinion.

People have different strengths and IMO the new system reflects that.

I'm sure there will be enough complaints from somebody to have it changed again though. Can't many everybody happy around here.
