Another Hurdle to go Under ...

For all members who have at least 250 posts,
have received at least 250 flags for their threads,
and at least 250 stars for their posts...

advertising on the discussion board area will be automatically disabled...

These members are in the "250/250/250 Club,"

Well. that would make them only '50' above the notorious '700 Club'
but I guess that's a distinction...

thanks

I haven't started many threads and have never flagged them.

Can I go off and flag all my old threads to start upping my flag count?

Perhaps they could be factored in somehow? Like 250/250/250/50(applause)

50 applause???

I think you are talking about the elite of the elite of the elite there!

I mean, I have 17 threads, and a semi-respectable 146 Flags - but still 0 applause. At this rate the 250 flags quota won't be that hard to reach, but I'll absolutely never hit 50 applause!

(I'm going to develop a complex here cause the mods don't like me, sob sob sob
)

Perhaps 25 then? It goes with the 25X theme and halves the requirement.

I just think, as ape suggested, that it is a more 'fair' indicator of quality and consistency.

Well I hope they do, I am way short on flags!

I'll flag yours if you flag mine!

I have to say that there is much to be learned, in terms of social forum dynamics, by observing all the different responses and reactions when quantitative indicators are introduced or subtracted.

Very interesting indeed ...

I'm just glad I don't have to see ads reminding me I'm fat.

So thank you for that.

And as far as flagging yourself ... why not?

As our good friend skyfloating once said:

"what's the point of having a horn if you're not going to toot it?"

I think it's cheating so I won't be doing it UNLESS they bring back that horrible advert displaying the woman with the big mouth.

Then I'll have to start another 230 threads to avoid ever seeing her again. Piece of cake

That's when you toot someone else's horn.

Flagging your own threads is pretty lame. I've never done it no matter how much I thought the topic was important. It shows in your profile to btw.

Ya nothing like jacking members who have been here for ahh yrs..

Not like we were here in the past regardless of whatever but meh, ya posts that get 250 this that or this is a good idea...

So anyway... Some of us don't make threads... so therefor where is the incentive for us.... seriously... we would rather contribute to a discussion than add more spam to the forum, my blow.. I might actually think of ridiculous ideas to come up with.. and Most of us has had a lot of decent posts prior to this star/flag set up you guys got going on here..

What difference does it make really?
It only applies for the first 24hrs.

To call members lame for that when the option is there available for them is a little harsh imho.

However I have changed my mood appropriately.

I don't really see flagging one's own threads as a bad thing either. I think I flagged every single one of mine - but then again, I only ever create a thread if I think the subject matter is very important, and worthy of a flag.

Certainly there's potential for abuse here, as there is with everything on here - people creating a whole bunch of pointless threads and flagging them, just to rack up flags etc.

Ah well....

What are flags for? They are for pointing out good content. It's like patting yourself on the back.

I hardly ever even see the advertisements on the site, its usually just a grey bar?

Besides that, i'm not to upset over seeing this ladies teeth continuously. You know you've seen it....

Still, I see alot of pointless threads popping up as a result. Sigh, attention seekers everywhere.

Two ways to look at that, intrepid. I used to think so as well, but I reversed that around. I now will only bring a topic here because I feel it is really important and needs more exposure. And I flag it. No horn toots, I really mean it. I am skipping over (and not bringing here) much stuff now that I would have routinely posted in the past and not flagged myself. So in a sense using that method I have opted for quality over quantity. I don't think that is unreasonable or self promoting, do you? I just don't want to spend time on posts that get little or no response. And it's helped a bit I think, not sure...

We actually considered using Applause as a requirement for this, but, figured many would cry foul because they are only issued by staff.

Now I see people crying foul because we didn't... I "get" why, you don't start threads and therefor can't get flags... Well, seeing as how it's mostly "senior members" who are crying about it I have a suggestion...

LEAD BY EXAMPLE, go do the research, start a wondrous thread and get where you want to go.

Seriously, I see people whom I respect, admire and appreciate that haven't started enough threads to get this little perk and I am a bit surprised because many of you (rightly so in most cases) have been at the forefront of the complaints about the ridiculous HOAX/Inane/Sensationalist/Lunatic Fringe threads...

So I'll say it again, LEAD BY EXAMPLE... or don't... But please don't complain about us reducing the ads required to pay for the site for those who create the content that brings in the traffic that allows to us to do so.

I am NOT saying your contributions are any less worthwhile or valuable, only that in the reality of internet revenue the search engines pay the bills, and it's threads that get to the search engines, not posts.

It is what it is, this is a reward to those who generate the content that generates the revenue that allows us t keep ATS alive and well. If you haven't been much of a thread starter maybe this will be the incentive to become one?

We sure hope so, there's a lot of long time members popping into this thread who I would love to see do some original research and create threads.

Springer...

SD, did I miss something in this thread?

What do you mean that it only applies for the first 24 hours?
