I am open to anything that will help humanity, and the animals and plants.
But I think that we have left it too late, because others have destroyed our environment.

Not quite. It can be too late to reverse the damage done and we are heading for a complete change in the environment. That does not mean that we should all be dead or even will be. It does mean life as we know it will change significantly.
I find it most ironic that the change will be forced upon us and far far more severe than the change needed in the past to avoid this that the naysayers, skeptics and deniers were so fearful of.
The new scientist had a very good article recently about the changes heading our way and some within our lifetime!!! It does not make pleasant reading.

The sad thing is that most people don't care - and there you have it.
As for government - if enough people cared, or even thought, it might be different.
People don't think or care - most of them, unfortunately.
