To my knowledge, Obama didn't use the word retard. He had an 'open mouth, insert foot' moment. And he then apologized, which is what politicians (but not comedians) do.

Has anyone in this thread mentioned that during this interview Obama and Leno also joked to each other using the word "Waterheads"? That is a slur for mentally retarded people and I haven't seen any coverage of this.

You are kidding right? I sure hope so. Because the waterhead remark was about a dog. And Obama said the dog he was getting was not a "portugese waterhead" like Leno said.

This is just funny to me. The false "outrage" is very, very funny to me.

Just going on Leno is a new low for any president. The presidential office is suppose to be something supreme and this guy is cracking special olympics jokes on late night tv. I also agree, if that were Bush every liberal media outlet would be spewing it in our faces for years on end. Front page stuff all over the world. Wonder how it feels for these media outlets to live on their knees.

Its kind of hard to make the argument that he was the target of his own joke, when you use an example of developmentally disabled as the control group, he could have said he was bowling like he tied both shoes together, or something along those lines. Instead he said he was bowling like the special olympics, which is an insult to those afflicted with that(DD), as well as their family/friends. IMHO, he should have never been on dipsh@#s show to begin with, no POTUS has ever gone on a show like the one zero appeared on. zero should start acting like a president and stop acting like he is some kind of rock star/movie star, like DUMBO.........

thing is, he still thinks he is running for president. all he has ever done in life is run for different offices and now that he has the highest one, hes pissed and wants to be ruler of the world.

I gotta agree with you on that, you hit the nail on the head.

I have never seen a public official display so much arrogance, and he has only been in office for 62 days, God help the USA, I dont think we can get a recall like the way we did gray davis, we can only HOPE for CHANGE.

Bush's comments weren't offensive to people, they were outright dumb. Obama told a joke, and some were offended. Not the same, and there really isn't a parallel with Bush.

You see, this one in particular was intentional, Classic Bush comedy, dubya style, but of course the haters were always too quick with their hissy fits to even notice they had been duped.

The much hated smirk was always the dead give away, so in essence the so called "fool" pretty much fooled the haters.

He wasn't as dumb as he let on and as most people think.

Actually, Obama should let the Special Olympian who bowls a 300 face him in the White House. Look, Bush wasn't ridiculed because he hit his head on a door or because he tried to open the wrong door in China... who doesn't do that occasionally? He was ridiculed because almost every time he was in public, he said or did something dumb.
