Obama Apologizes to Special Olympics for Bowling Joke

www.foxnews.com

Appearing on "The Tonight Show," the president told host Jay Leno he'd been practicing at the White House's bowling alley but wasn't happy with his score of 129. The he rolled a gutter ball by quipping: "It was like the Special Olympics or something."

woh now. imagine if Bush said that???? or another republican? this has had 0 coverage in the MSM. keith olbermann brought it up and said, "he was in a social environment, its ok". but blood would be shooting out of his eyes had a republican made the joke. people already see bush as mentally handicapped so it makes it that much greater that it would of been front page of the NYT had a republican said it.

way to go Obama, your party of tolerance and progress makes me laugh at you.

People need to focus on this elitest garbage, like you say if bush said that, he would be all over the news, even though i cannot stand bush.

Just shows how he really feels, like the bible and guns comment he made during the election. He really does have a poor opinion of us majority folk, and its amazing they had to run him against an absolute no hoper to win, no wonder.

If any other politician or actor...made this statement..
They would be on a rail out of town..and we know it.
Media would not stop talking about it for a month.

But obama is different yet again i see...

Untouchable and slippery as a snake oil sale's man.

Heck if Brittany spears was to fall down on stage..get up laughing and say i i am clumsier than a special Olympics kid.

Her record sale's and public lime light would cease to exist.

BOOOO Britney BOOOO how dare she...

He should have just said that it was a joke and been done with it, I am sure that he will not be picketed by Special Olympics winners and such. I would have respected the man more if he had never went on the show in the first place.

Bunch of overblown Britney Spearsesc sensationalist nonescence.

Obama is the first sitting POTUS to make an appearance on a National comedy show. All eyes were on him and he comes up with this BS out of his mouth.

Here is the problem... He had no teleprompter. What a jackass. This statement goes hand in hand with the box set of DVD's he gave to PM Brown and the people of the UK. The man simply has no class. He would rather be cool than classy and dignified.

edit to add.

In the spirit of Obama's statement I would like to see him travel back to DC in a "shortbus" version of Air Force One.

I really think you people are crazy with these liberal conspiracies. Trust me, people get mad whether it is liberal or conservative. It's not like Obama can go murder a whale, and the Sea Shepard is going to be like, "Wait guys, he's a liberal... let him go!".

That's some deranged fantasy.

I really don't think he should have apologized because he has now justified all of these idiot's outrage. If I even hear Limbaugh or a Limbaugh fan complain about this, I swear to God my head will explode.

The hypocrisy floating around this "crisis" is so thick, it's a writer's wet dream.

then tell me why it isnt front page news?

TELL ME. oh what? you cant? ahhh. ok

tell me why chris dodd admitting to allowing AIG to get bonuses isnt front page news? oh what? you cant? ahhh ok.

NO they would rather report that Obama was "stunned" by AIG bonuses when he is the one that signed the bill to allow it. shows how much he reads. politics of fear keeps them spending in a crisis.

there is a liberal extreme slant in the news and if you cannot see that, then you need to get glasses because i feel bad for you.

i guess chris matthews admitting he gets chills up his leg whenever obama speaks isnt enough for you.

There isn't a conspiracy.

A conspiracy is something that is suppose to be secret, yet everyone knows about it.

Nobody is hiding the fact that President Obama gets a free pass with the media. Nobody disputes it.

So no conspiracy. Just the truth.

Why would it be front page news? Not that this is even comparable to a Bush gaff, but none of his were "front-pagers" either.

If you think this is a front-page news story... you've been obsessing about an Obama screw up for too long. You may be jumping the gun just a bit.

Cool off, loosen your belt buckle, unsqueeze your butt checks, and relax.

Apparently not, since you are reading about it in the media.

If he has been obsessing about an Obama screw up for a long time, then he hasn't been watching the news.

1. Snubbs the troops at a troop meet and greet to play basketball

2. Gives the PM of Britian a DVD box set as a diplomatic gift.

3. Reads whatever is put up on the teleprompter, as seen on St. Pattys day.

and

4. Compares his bowling game to the Speacial Olympics.

I'm sure there are more, this was just off the top of my head.

Did Obama screw up with this gaffe? Yes.

He shouldn't have been on the show to begin with, IMO, and that set the stage for the unavoidable slip of the tongue.

He has apologized; the parties insulted are accepting.

He is doing a lot more things wrong than making gaffes on late night talk shows. Let's be mad about those....not a lame attempt at a joke.

This shouldn't be front page news. I think its quite offensive and I've said as much in the other thread here. However, I'll give Obama some credit: he recognized that he said something stupid and issued an apology almost immediately. His statement is indefensible, but people say stupid things from time to time.

For my part, I rate the bailout mess as an infinitely more important scandal than this is. Is the media underreporting that story? I think they are, at least as far as the Obama administration's level of involvement is concerned, but that's a topic for another discussion.

Yea after another news station already said Fox would cover it and drug them through the dirt for doing it.

Yea, the media is fair alright.

only reason they are inviting special olympics to the white house is to spin control that obama actually cared about them. [SNIP]

Getting a Special Olympian to work in the white house?!!?
Is that a punishment or something?

The world is mad. He made an idiotic blunder accept that USA and move on.

I think that this is way overblown.

It's on all the news web sites today like it's something really important.

We're all so PC today that this makes the news.
