Roger that. Soon as the Cap deals out the specs, I'll see what I can scrounge in the way of eye candy, that's legal to use, and take it from there.

Good stuff. Only ONE more question - are we going to have/use NPC (non-player characters) in this? If so, I can use them for the rest of the crew OR is the crew only the other writers in this thread participating? That will matter a lot for the actual design and functions of the ship.

I see no reason why you can't have extra crew members besides those who are actual 'live' participants. The only concern is how they have a voice. They cant post, for instance.

But, no problem... every chief of whatever can have as many NPC's working for him as needed.

AWESOME.

Non - expect specs within about 4-5 hours - I HAVE to leave to go to Seoul.

Looks like we got ourselves a carrier.

See you soon.

I'll delay the start of the Voyages thread until tomorrow morning at 9AM EST March 18 to give the captains and crew a chance to better prepare.

Who's in a hurry?

Not me...

Whisper boards the Yddryl. Curiously, she ‘pets’ the interior wall of the ship with her short tentacles. The ship is eerily quiet, as she likes it. Slithering through the ships corridor, she picks out the most reclusive quarters. Cold, cramped, and devoid of any Rigellian art. Throughout the known universe, Rigellian art is viewed as superior, as least as far as Whisper is concerned. Even her empathic friend Antar, has contributed greatly to the quality of Rigellian art forms combining her gift of empathy fused with superior intellect, its result being some of the most thought provoking, provocative sculptures. Some even claim to receive a sense of peace and enlightenment from just viewing these works of art. Not Whisper. She can appreciate it greatly, but not feel it.

Whisper unpacks and notices one item of interest in her quarters. A floating, illuminating orb. Another of Antars beautiful pieces of sculpture or a souvenir of Captain Cadburys recent escapades to Betelgeuse?

Captain Cadbury, the most respected and fearless of his rank. Having never served under him, Whisper intends to live up to her reputation. Captain Cadbury and Whisper share the obsession with Betelgeuse. Not knowing the objective of this mission, she can only hope for a return…

Refocusing, Whisper tosses the red garment in the atom recycling bin. She suits up in her favorite blacker then black uniform and slithers towards the central command center, curiously again sliding her tentacle along the interior wall of the ship.

Seeker is one of the first aboard the Penelope. He stalks through the gleaming new passageways, glaring at anyone beneath his rank who dares meet his eyes. He reserves no respect for those who look away, while those who stand their ground gain his silent approval.

Harsh is his world, so harsh is his nature.

He ignores the technological wonder around him as he moves purposefully toward the command cabin. To Seeker, the hype surrounding the new warship Penelope is irrelevant. A ship without adequate weaponry is a useless hulk and a waste of money and time.

Upon reaching the command cabin, Seeker immediately sits down before the weapons control central hub and begins the process of interfacing his implant-enhanced neural network with the system. String after string of green lights scroll across his virtual vision, indicating a 100% state of battle readiness.

Seeker is pleased with what he sees.

"Anyway, here's a few suggestions for weaponry aboard the Penelope. I had a fit of creativity, so take from it what you will mf_luder or Masqua, whoever is in charge of the Penelope's capabilities."

"Grapeshot" Cluster Warheads
Broadside ready MagRail Cannons
20-25G Velocity Fusion Warheads
Plasma Lance Turrents
"Quantum Buster" Class Destructor Missiles
Sub-FTL "Luminal" Class Kinetic Projectiles
Anti-Incoming Defense Laser Bulbs

Feel free to add suggestions.

And well written Whisper, very nice.

NATURE is down with creative weaponry, but Captain mf_luder is the last word on them.

Just an idea but if we incorporate the use of NPC characters could we not open up some "visitor" positions for other writers to contribute a small portion of an outsider opinion?

Submitted for your approval.....

my interpretation of the "Penelope":

[atsimg]http://files.abovetopsecret.com/images/member/87a4c44e0844.jpg[/atsimg]

She's in Earth orbit here, not at L1. Alaska is lower right on earth, Chukchi Peninsula directly in front of the bow.

I made her 500 meters long, subject to adjustments.

I tried to do one of another ship for the loyal opposition "Yydryl", but the surface of the ship isn't showing up yet. On the Positive side, the Orion Nebula in the background is spectacular!

The idea has already crossed my mind and a potential new shipmate who has contacted me via U2U is already on standby. Either they're a little intimidated by the scope of the Space Opera idea or maybe need some help.

Not sayin'

Subject to The Captain's approval, of course.

This is a planet near the Orion nebula, in the background, where I'm trying to get the "Yydryl" to show up. Might have to switch to a different model to get the textures to appear.

Wow, impressive.

I wonder if Captain Cadbury will like what you come up with. Just a suggestion, but it's gotta look 'alien'.

Captain cadbury of the alien vessel:

I'm not trying to be presumptuous in designing your vessel, I'm just horsing around with my software here.

This is a vessel in orbit around a planet near the Orion Nebula. if you like it, it's yours. If you don't, or if you've already got one, I'll delete it, just please don't start shooting at me over it.... yet.

[atsimg]http://files.abovetopsecret.com/images/member/49cfabc8d3f0.jpg[/atsimg]

This is apparently the "proper" orientation of this vessel - top side up, bow facing right. However, in space who knows?

Awesome ship!

It looks a little like this one:

[atsimg]http://files.abovetopsecret.com/images/member/6b07e3ce999b.jpg[/atsimg]

but with superstructures and substructures and outriggers and such. The above is the ship I couldn't get to render properly in Celestia. If we select it, i won't be able to put it into illustration renders later unless I can find someone to modify the model I have above.
