The Space Opera Working Thread

Er.. excuse me, can someone show me where the Penelope is. Im ensign John Q, just finished the Academy yesterday and was told to report to the Captain (of the Penelope).

I would of got here sooner but two officers sent me to the wrong docking bay and now im just lost.

I trained as a pilot but can adapt to anything, this will be my first mission in space.. I was told it was going to be a routine mission.

Sorry, if im rambling, im a little bit nervous..

Thanks, I hope this doesnt mean I get killed off in the first away mission, lol. Im not wearing red or is it yellow, those people always die first.

No crew member will get killed off without an agreement struck between Nature and the intended victim. Correspondence leading up to the event will happen behind the scenes via U2U.

Failure to abide by the Terms And Conditions Of Use may precipitate such communications.

If a member cannot continue for other reasons, they will be dispatched in a colourful manner.

Edit to ask, are we all going to die in this storyline or is that best left to nature? I am open to meet my ascention... It will be beautiful and hopefully explosive.

Role Playing


Build a personality based entirely on this mission. The rules are basic:

• The Captain is the authority on the ship and his orders to his entire crew are in BB Code for orange (ie [color=orange]Now hear this)
  
  
• Crew members are expected to create personalities which reflect their status on board- ie Pilot, Security Officer, etc.
  
  
• conversations between crew members are to be done using the 'Reply-To' button on the top right hand corner of each post or using the 'Quote' button (please trim to portion of the quote you are replying to. If you have questions on how to do that, please U2U me)
  
  Some writers do not have enough posts to enable U2U's. If a private message is to be communicated and you can't do so, I will pass the U2U on to the intended recipient.
  
  
• Ship-to-Ship communications between the Penelope and the Yddryl will not occur until they meet at some point after departure from their respective outposts.
  
  
• posting pictures in the thread: pictures must be uploaded to the ATS Media site.

Korea is 13 hours "ahead" of EST, meaning 21:00 EST today is 10:00 tomorrow there. As an example, it's right now 14:40 Tuesday EST, and it's 03:40 Wednesday in Korea.

Scurvy has been sitting in his glacial cavern, gleefully sorting through the possible effects a mission flown under Captain Cadbury could have on his reputation. Not only that but to be on the same ship as that empath everyone raves about and Whisper, one of the most feared assassins from Rigel. This was going to be fun.

A thought occurs and Scurvy reaches out with his mind to speak with Dispatcher.
*I've been thinking and I am sure my skills could be better used as a Ship Defense Officer and Weapons Tech.*

Welcome aboard the Penelope John Q. And no worries about that "dying" thing. If we go down, you can rest assured that the ships gun's will take them with us. Send them to whatever hell they've invented for themselves on their mudball homeworld in Orion's crotch.

The time zones have a tangible effect, no doubt. Orders relayed from your captain may take time for you to act on.

No biggie... respond when you're online. I doubt the Space Opera is going to move too fast to keep up with.

Personal communications between crew members are going to be what keeps it tripping along, but Captain Orders will be in orange, so they'll be hard to miss.

We could even have one captain post orders in orange and the other in pink

FYI, the Yddryl is an advanced vessel with unknown capabilities.

There's no telling what an active engagement will achieve just yet.

Communications between the Penelope and the Yddryl cannot commence until a catastrophic event happens AFTER the Space Opera gets rolling along.

Please confine your posts to your crew members until NATURE signals that cosmological catastrophy.

Would it be advisable to run separate threads for the humans and Yydryl "denizens" (for lack of a better species name) until near contact, to minimize cross-banter and provide that element of "surprise" and or/ wonder? Perhaps they could be merged at that point? Forgive my ignorance of how these matters work.
