It really was considered back in the beginning. IMO, we can't agree on anything right now, I don't think we will all agree in a thread about the issue (people are still saying "bring back free speech" vs "No more drug talk!")

It would turn into a "who do we listen to" type thing for the staff. I think so, anyway. And members will still be unhappy if they miss the thread and things.

I just don't know at this point.

Springer,

Is it a possibility that we offer you a list of things directly - without a committee being formed? skeptic1 had an excellent list going, and I think if we had a thread to list those, ask for additional ideas, and hone that to a proposed solution, and just offer it, we might be far closer to a solution than we appear to be bickering and infighting over how to pick the vaunted few.

Would that work for you amigos?

We've already given up on these topics because the costs have out weighed the benefits by a thousand fold, as the OP of this thread states. Several members believed they could figure it out and were willing to try, we could have said no, our decision is final but we didn't, now we are the "bad guys again". Unbelievable.

See this negativity towards us members? That's what's astounding. WE make your site what it is. WE are your business. Thanks for pointing out very clearly it's all about the money though, something that SO has denied. If such discussion threatens the very existence of ATS, then you're not being straight about what country you operate in as far as I'm concerned. Who's threatening to shut ATS down? The FCC? I'm confused...

edit: not trying to be a jerk, i just feel deeply offended by the tone that comes across in your posts as looking down on us

I totally get where you are coming from. That's why I wrote what is in my sig block.

Ultimately ATS is a privilege for us all, and a time sink for the owners of this site.

Let me clarify, the three man company which owns ATS.

I may wish to see many things on ATS, but ultimately I don't have a say, because I don't have any ownership. It's the same at the company I own. Sure I want to hear all the perspectives of those who might work for me, or those who might participate in communities facilitated by my company... but ultimately, it's MY company.

And ultimately ATS is not OUR company. It is our hobby. BIG difference.

Does it allow for the democratization of conspiracy theories? Sure, the owners try as much as possible to do that. But when the topic veers of that course and into other areas they don't want it to go into, then they have every right to nip it in the bud, so to speak.

Anyway...

S-Dog and yourself tied for most votes.

I'd be thrilled to place either of you in that spot.

I'm getting ice cream from the freezer and waiting to see if it gets shot down.
Or, how long before it gets shot down.

I think Skeptic1, you should lead, you are so organized.

Springer, I apologize if I am reading this wrong, but it seems you are lumping in every one together with those who are going to do nothing but complain no matter what solution is and at the same time offer no alternative. It is best to ignore those gnashing their teeth for the sake of gnashing their teeth because they have nothing to offer and concentrate on those who are trying to make a difference.

And I have to be honest, what did you expect? You are running a conspiracy-theory website; there are a fair-amount of members who suffer from Persecution Complex. They are going to think anyone and everyone is out to get them somehow, including other members and yourself.

I'd like to propose SDog as potential leader for the potential committee. I think his name was brought up by more members as a good rep than any of the rest of us.

Me too springer - and I'm very close to throwing the towel in, and saying "sod it, let the ban stand"

Those of us who have been trying to reach a compromise for the betterment of the community have been flamed, "foe's" and accused of being on power trips or wanting some kind of power or glory.

I will see this process through - but next time, perhaps I'll save myself the trouble and let the members who don't see this as a community carry on moaning and generally bitching about anything and everything.

I am extremely discouraged and more than a little disappointed by the attitude of some, when we are only trying to help EVERYONE.

BUT I will not give up - this is important, and I refuse to let small mindedness deter me.

Edit to add:
For what it's worth, I think Sdog would be great as the leader. IMO of course

Wow... hook/line/sinker IMO

Appeal to emotion, Glittering Generalities... among others.

Seriously guys... you need to do some research...

Propaganda and passive controls... all the way...

heck, do some searching on past events... they've all played out in a similar manner... just as Springer pointed out... they failed miserably...

The trick is making us feel like we've failed them somehow...

Watch... if an agreement can't be reached, you will feel like they've given every opprotunity to us, and failed to compromise.

THIS... is the exact nature of the passive controls i'm speaking of.

But, I'll most likely go back to simple observation at this point... and we'll watch the script play out.

But their company makes money off of your ideas. You're giving them FREE ideas, and they turn around and sell them. They should NOT treat us like children, they just like every other corporate entity see us as expendable and feel comfortable that no matter who they mistreat, they will always have business. That's not true though, as many will find out.
