Bottom line: Obama=Stimulus package; Stimulus package=Obama.

Bottom Line: Obama doesn't even know what's in the stimulus package. He didn't write it, he didn't have a hand in brainstorming it. The caption of the cartoon speaks only to those who wrote the bill.

To see him portrayed as a monkey is racist. It is different when you are portraying a black man as a monkey.

And it's that exact mindset that will keep our civilization living in the dark ages. The fact that all of these grossly offended readers still equate blacks and apes. It's the 21st Century — Time to come in off the plantation, y'all.

You don't know if it's supposed to represent Obama? C'mon. The lengths at which some on this thread are going to in order to tap dance around the obvious and play coy w/ the issue is astounding. The level of denial is extraordinary.
The air of assumption on your part is rife. Where do you see Obama's name mentioned in the cartoon?

Bottom line: Obama=Stimulus package; Stimulus package=Obama. To see him portrayed as a monkey is racist. It is different when you are portraying a black man as a monkey. Then on top of that to show him lying there in a pool of blood just spirals into the darkest depths of offensive.
Obama didn't write the bill, and he probably has no clue as to what he actually signed, so how does the bill represent him? Obviously you make some mental connection between the chimp and Obama, but that's your problem, not the cartoonist's or anyone else.

Promoting the murder of anyone is offensive. Then take into account the very real, numerous and significant threats to his life that Obama is having to endure and it becomes plain old sloppy journalism.
A dead chimp implies death to Obama.. Where did that come from, I must have missed it.

There are probably more than a few white supremacists making a poster out of this cartoon as we speak.
I'm sure there are, but then again we have people who attempt to make a racial statement based upon a cartoon featuring a dead chimp. Go figure..

And in my opinion, that definition of treason fits the Republican party to a T right now. In fact, it has fit them to a T for the past eight years.
Now where did you see Republican in the cartoon? Are the police supposed to represent the Republican party now? Enough of the abstractions and extrapolations please.. What do you see when you look at "The Last Supper"?

Djarums

Nope, not racist..

Seeing as Obama did not write the Stimulus bill.. members of Congress and Senate did?

If you didn't have your head so far up your rear you probably would have taken notice of this.. also to the fact that the Cartoonist was intending to mean our politicians are detached morons with the intelligence level of a Monkey (approx 6yr old human).

Or you can see Racism around every corner..

I hate the fact that we are already walking a tight rope around our new Black president. Though sadly, it doesn't surprise me.

Whoever said you were a liberal? Not I.

Seems that the more sensitive viewers are reading a lot more into my words (and into this minor controversy) than is actually there. It's all happening in your head, folks, not out here in the real world.

It's all fair game, missy. Democrat hacks set the standard by mutilating the Bush Administration in various gruesome ways for 8 long years. Get used to it.

These weren't your words to me? I don't have anything to get use to. All this is is politics as usual....it's wrong from either side.

Its a freakin' cartoon.

Isn't that what we tell the Muslims when they get pissed off about a satirical cartoon of their beloved prophet Mohammad?

I wish the creator of this particular cartoon had depicted the chimp as the crazy economy, and the officers as the feds killing it.

Are you seeing what the artist wants you to see?

The way the MSM is covering it is laughable. They never bring up the fact cartoonist joked about killing Bush and drew him as a monkey. Of course, if they did Al Sharpton wouldn't have a case.

Instead, the media is using this to paint Obama as a victim, silence dissent against him and scaremonger about white people like they usually do. Its infuriating.

In most political cartoons, if the drawn character does not physically look like the real person, they usually draw in the persons name. The chimp does not have Obama written across it's chest. So I immediately assumed the point was that the spending package was written by someone with quite a few less CC's in the ole braincase.

However, I also believe that the cartoon was published in bad taste. Chimps around the world are probably outraged, and insulted!

Trying to make a racial issue of this is right up there with the Miley Cyrus lawsuit claiming she discriminated against Asian-Americans because of a stupid picture..

I am continually amazed at how low the intelligence level of the recently joined members of ATS have become.

The cartoon in question had no hidden message. It NEVER mentioned Obama, that was done by the poster.

It alluded to the members of Congress who were involved in the writing of the bill.

I find it more than a little odd that the past president could be bashed repeatedly including making comments about his family, but when this guy was sworn in,things changed.

They knew exactly what they were doing with this.

The racial overtones are obvious, but the Post can easily spin this one away by saying that the message is "the stimulus bill is so stupid that a monkey must have written it".

The cartoon doesn't mention Obama by name, and truth be told he didn't write the bill anyway, he just fronts it.

Easy one to dodge this, but very naughty of the Post.

The "overtones" you speak of are obvious to you.
But not me.
What does that say about you?
What does that say about me?

Yep, it's called hypocrisy, and we can look forward to 4 more years of it, nonstop. What is most discouraging is that the previous president made "bipartisanship" a hallmark of his administration, "reaching out" to Democrats and allowing them to craft virtually every important piece of legislation — No Child Left Behind and Immigration Reform, for two glaring examples. Bush collaborated with Democrats so often and to such an extent that he alienated his own party and alienated conservatives across the country.

Obama, on the other hand, while crowing about "bipartisanship," signed the lumbering stimulus bill into law with virtually NO Republican support. This new administration has already demonstrated extreme partisan bias and is steering us on the fast track to European-style socialism.

The grossly offended readers would probably see nothing offensive in this version...

In fact, they'd probably get a good laugh.

First off, Doc, in the the public's mind this package is associated w/ Obama. It is his package and indeed if it fails who do you think they're going to be coming after?

Your lack of understanding the history of this hurtful comparison of black men to apes is what keeps us in the dark ages. You're right it is the 21st century. Time to crawl out of the swamp, bottom feeder and grow a spine already.

To whoever else, Oh, they were referring to the mental capacity of our politicians who are morons that think like 6 year olds....blah, blah,blah...and I'm reading into it? How much conjecture can you possibly come up with?

[SNIP]

(The republican bit I just threw in. Nothing to do w/ the cartoon.)

You are the ones walking a very fine line. And frankly, I'M amazed at the low intelligence of the so-called veteran members of ATS. Apparently this is nothing more than some kind of "Yes-Man" stroking forum. These apologetics you indulge in are a sorry excuse for such an esteemed site.

But sorry..you ain't rid of me yet..

We are of "low-intelligence" because some of us don't see racist overtones in the cartoon?

Truthfully, If Obama was not considered "black" then there would be no protest about this picture.

What I see is liberal PC ideology protesting a perceived prejudice. Where was the reaction when Condi Rice was protrayed as a "trained Monkey" for Mr Bush?
(Excluding a few token conservatives.)

The conspiracy, The democrat ideology identifies this type of "Racist" speech as a "hate" crime. And attempts to labels all Negative speech vrs Mr Obama as a "hate crime". Hence stopping any type of negative criticism.

This of course, will probably never happen. But it doesn't stop some libs from trying at least.

The Cartoon is implying the author of the Bill was a Monkey (Ape). Obama was not the author, Members of Congress were. Only a Racist would think it was about Obama which means those complaining are the Racists they are complaining about. No way around that anymore. If anything it is calling the entire Democratic Party a bunch of Monkey's.

Sharpton is just pissed because he has not been in the news in a long time. Gotta keep those contributions flowing in so he does not have to get a real job. So, he gets everyone hyped up on a lie about the intent of a cartoon. He knows he is obsolete and not much more than a comical reminder of the past as he continues as if the world has not changed in 40 years. He no longer serves any purpose and is facing that he may end up as a Garbage Man not being qualified for much else.

Give it a rest folks. Our President is a Black Man who had little trouble being elected. Sharpton and all the Race Baiter's need to grow the hell up and give it a break. The only Racist's left are those like Sharpton who are yelling Racism the loudest. I actually like Sharpton but that does no change the facts of who or what he is.

Everyone needs to quit giving these Con Men who earn their money by stirring people up over fake Race issues the time of day, so they will go away. If their is any racism here, it is not in the cartoon.

Im sorry but what happened to
'Deny Ignorance'
It doesnt take a brain surgeon to figure out what this picture is in fact depicting. You can make all the excuses you want for this picture, but even you know, deep down what this picture represents.
Come on people. Dont be ignorant.

On that note, it still is a pretty funny looking cartoon. And I laughed my ass off when I looked at it, but at the same time I was telling myself "oh damn, someone is going to get pissed about this"

Since then, I showed this picture to 5 different people seperately, and they all said the same thing "is that monkey supposed to be Obama?"
hahaha

Oh lordy lord. They have lost their minds.

I feel all of this is just one big build up of something bigger to happen.

I wonder if Obama thinks the chimp is supposed to look like him? Honestly though, I think even he's smarter than that..
