yes i know, but it is shiny, black, looks round and stuck in a rock.

it throws a shadow and looks less natural than anything else in the pic, imho.

there is also a spiral shell looking thing in the big pic also.

just keepin my eyes open.

It could be that the dark portions are built up sediment which has accumilated underneath this object, making it look as if it is a single piece of the larger "rock" behind it. The texture seems to suggest that, but again its only a guess because of the limited data we have to work with....extremely limited I might add.

In my personal opinion, I tend to think this is not a typical unusual formed rock. Someone suggested that perhaps it is a fossilized remains of a martian version of an eel. And someone linked us up earlier to another article that suggests it could be an eel.

Mars once did have vast oceans, huge lakes and oxygen atmosphere capable of supporting life. We do know from other examined rocks that there are fossil shells embedded into rocks found by both Spirit and Opportunity. Part of the mission of the new MSL rover, is to use its amazing MAHLI camera and tools to focus in on these embedded shell fossils in the rocks to get a closer examination of their compositions.

Because we dont have the data to find the compositional makeup of this object in the photo, its all just guess work. But my guess is that this is a fossilized remains of a martian ocean or large martian lake eel.

Ok skeptics, as I said, and let me repeat in case its overlooked just to attack me, it is my GUESS that this is possibly a fossilized martian ocean eel or matian lake eel.

Cheers!!!!

I know it's a stretch, but could it be a fossilized reptilian? I don't know... just throwing an idea at ya.
That skull looking thing in the background is pretty wild too. It's almost like the thing is staring at you. By the way, great find.

Yes its possible. Mars once had an atmosphere with oxygen, huge massive lakes and oceans, and most likely had life.

If we had the geology filter datasets to this one image, we could look at the compositional differences and makeup of this object and compare it to known compositional elements as well as compare it to the surroundings in the image.

That will tell us if it is just a weird shaped rock, or something else.

But NASA did not publish the geology filter data. I wonder why. (Never A Serious Analysis).

Cheers!!!!

Thanks for the info. I also checked out the link at the top of this page from "dennisdvx". It shows pictures for from an analysis and actually shows an eel.
The resemblance is alot alike.

Yup NASA = COSMIC LITTERBUGS

I hear they just had a headon collision with a Russian Satellite... Debris scattered everywhere

All the Lunar orbiter craft were slammed into the moon and now they plan to do the same with the LaCross spacecraft... deliberately smash it into the area where there is most likely water ice just to see what they can stir up..

Who pays these bozos anyway?

You know if we had a REAL space program going that had industries and countless jobs, I would bet that there would be plenty of work for alot of people who specialize in salvage. Imagine what kind of economic gain that would give to the whole, numerous salvage companies and jobs that would come along with that, instead of all this crashing and bashing of billions of dollars of hardware on the Moon and Mars.

If only we could turn the clock back in time to the early 70's and kick Nixon and that whole administration and congress in the butt for putting the effort to a grinding hault..keeping us "on the farm" as it were.

I dont think that the economy anywhere would be in the shambles it is in had the space program been allowed to continue. We would have had our flying cars by now as promised back in the late 50's, not to mention colonies and industries galore.

Cheers!!!!

I do not like to add other photos on a thread where the subject is a photo, but I found this photo from the rear HazCam and from the same Sol interesting.

I only croped and resized it to 200%.

The image on the Rovers' site is this one

Strange rocks on that area.

Ive been following this thread and have to ask myself: Why is everyone getting so worked up? Its just a pair of pliers.

Some years ago, there was an ATS member that asked all the "psychics" where were his lost pliers, maybe they are on Mars.

That would explain where all the things that disappear mysteriously go.

I have to check the rover's photos for a chess pawn that we lost more than 30 years ago.

Edit: it was spacedoubt, as you can see here. I wonder if he ever found them.

Yes the more obvious object gets the attention because it's as dead as a stone. The live dna is standing by to be recognized by the higher sensitivity of eyes sharpened to recognize LIFE on Mars, asin presently alive and moving people and animals on Mars.

If this flat-headed animal has some details edited out then I have cut out a straight line that would look like a spinal column or the sword of a swordfish. The smaller head, also symetrical,is more common on Mars. The eyes on the head of larger creature are about 10 inches apart. It reminds me of a SKATE or RAY fish.

Theres plenty of those around the outskirts of the martian sub terranean mechanics complex. Its actually called a "Square Tailed 1/8 Transqiesel Socket" as as its known locally as a STTS8.

Its mainly used to reattach lose terranean air vents on the surface, I guess one of the maintenace workers was careless and left it out side. Dont worry he'll pay for it as they are contrusted of a titanium beroxide alloy to stop corrosion in the low oxygen atmosphere and cost about $7,000 each. I'm surprised the guys at JPL missed this, usually they do a scrub before relaesing into the public domain, but I hear in the next 18 mths there is a big disclosure project supposed to be happening so maybe this is just gauging public reaction.

Nice spotting, I'm wondering how you found it, as it seems a little odd to pick up on something quite insignificant that would not be noticed without magnification.. maybe you were tipped off from an insider in JPL??

If that is from an animal and if that is a head and if something was edited out then the original could be anything our imagination wants.

Do you know the "Brainiac" documentaries? Is something about using brain to understand thinks (fun science).

This kind of topics here, with a lot of stars, flags and posts, can be good in something "similary" documentaries, called

"PAREIDOLIAC" .

Is surely like to the people.

I'd be careful with the term 'experts' dude

I had a look at that sight before
Some of thier stuff is seriously sketchy. (some of it is good also
)

But they're not 'experts', just some dudes that look at mars pics alot.

Cheers

I found a couple of items, never a word from NASA about what they were and I got the usual debunkers that crawled out of the woodwork to discredit the objects:

Like this one that clearly shows a water vessel or pottery container under a rock (left side) - notice the perfectly smooth round opening taken from Spirit on SOL85

Pottery/vessel under hollow martian rock

Or objects taken just as Spirit was leaving Bonneville crater on SOL398 - notice the sickle or mechanical shaped object

Multiple objects

We are going to have to have full close up of an alien or a full structure centered in camera to get anywhere.

Cheers

My favorite find - a small human face in a rock. trick of the eye but still worth looking at:

Human Face

or this small object with a porthole

Small object

Both of these seem to be tricks of lighting to me. Obviously it is not a fact that they are not what you posted them as being, but IMHO just tricks of lighting.
