Everyone needs to look again at this picture.

Do you see it?

His right arm is bent.

if anyone remembers watching on January 20th it was very cold that day; indicating he was probably wearing gloves.

That's not a second tie, he's either adjusting his one tie, or his hand is over his heart for a pledge or something.

The guy is wearing a blue shirt, and what may look a little like a second tie, is just an illusion created by a bad splice. Look how his collar seems to be split, just like his headband (and head too!):

Get your hand and cover the left side of the picture up to the splice line, you can clearly see it is his jacket lapel hit by sunlight

Ah, good 'ol stitching errors. The panorama appears to be an assortment of about a dozen or so high-resolution photos taken in a in sequence and ordered in the pattern of a grid. Also, the time between each picture is about ten seconds or so, and a good two or three minutes before all of the photos were taken. This leaves quite a bit of room for error.

When uploaded to a computer, a program attempts to organize the pictures in a manner that makes sense and have them merge onto one another and be accurate. It attempts to fill in colors and textures where it deems appropriate. Being only a program, however, there is a good probability of error. All of the anomalies were from people along the lines of the where the pictures would meet. When merging vertically, there doesn't seem to be too many errors, since people wouldn't have much of a chance to move in the time between shots and the program would compensate for that. Horizontal merges, however, are a different story. There is quite a bit of time between when one picture is taken and when the one below it is taken. This gives people quite a bit of time to move around if they aren't seated, fixated on the man giving the speech.

Hate to shoot down people who think it was a faked event, but these are nothing more than stitching and splicing errors.

ok- def agreed this stuff is weird. can anyone show another example similar to the inaguration where there are photos spliced together and these effects occur??!?!? please legit photos. this is very odd though, maybe these "invisible" people are part of the secret service using some kind of cloaking device we cant see with naked eye but picked up partially by camera. cant ufo's cloak? maybe we are using some of their technology for our own security..just a thuoght.

Easily explained. The image shows 2 images blended so that it looks like a guy with a fat neck. But look at the headband and you can see that the person may have moved his head, almost impercetively, while the camera shutter opened and closed the image. If this person could be identified and contacted a present photo would show him normally and he would laugh his butt off at how he's been presented for the world to see.

Perhaps this is to remove the identity of CIA officials and whatever other secret service is around. Nowadays it looks like everyone has a camera or video recorder so it would be crucial to preserve security in the eye of the enemy. In todays world you have to take it a step further. You can compare this to the 911 footage taken from a gas station that observes an explosion coming from the pentagon with no capture of a falling plane. Reviewing another video will play a low flying missile shot from what appears to be a high tech aerospace vehicle. There is nothing you can do about public awareness but only to partake and be a part of it. If you need to make a panoramic photo from two different shots that would fit the page, especially if you need to make deadline.

There are some really neat and funky anomalies in this photo but I think that the mystery has been solved. Huge crowd. Moving and fidgeting spectators. Multiple shots aligned for a panoramic effect and you get some interesting anomalies.

Great picture by the way.

I would agree that this is caused by adding the photos together when they make the gigashot, I had a look on that site to see if any other anomilies could be seen and I saw a very fake looking man doing a handstand, maybe the guys over at gigapan like to put things in the shots kinda like a where's wally?

In the image where its only a guys legs, the cops and camera man are also distorted. I'm guessing bad imagery

What a great panoramic picture.
The detail is so crisp too.
There sure were a lot of litter bugs out that day, how much is it costing us to repair the damage that was done?

It's a great picture but all the hoopla was for nothing because this inauguration day didn't count. Remember, they had to do a do-over the next day.
DOH!

Maybe people should go to the site itself and view 1000's of these spliced images!

Some of these images can take a day and some take years!

Have fun!...some great images of cities and panoramic s of beautiful scenery!

gigapan.org...

And all these anomalies, snipers and other things have been discussed on another thread!

here!
