Wow, lots of smoke, and the sounds of jets, screams, roosters, multiple bombs and machine guns going off!!!! This is so surreal. Nothing like I've ever seen live on TV.

That is more WP I fear, isn't it?

Nasty, nasty stuff. Cant b using it for ground troup cover, I doubt.

For clarification purposes, Phosphor bombs are dropped downward, and spray outward, very bright.

I have no clue what that ground covering trail of smoke on the screen is right now... teargas?
... err, was... don't confuse it with the burning building.

And you won't get to watch anything like it on standard live TV.
The government regulates that... and the last thing any government wants is for you to be able to watch what it or it's allies do during battle.

But for effect, I've linked my older linux box (which hasn't been turned on in 209 days... it berated me for that and proceeded to do a diagnostic check.) to my TV and am playing it full screen as I use the computer.

I fear for those people. They must be going through psychological hell right now.

Hey guys, am I the only one without any sound or are the rest of you not hearing anything either. I'd like to hear Pheonix. I've sorta grown attached to the Rooster.

Uhh, never mind, I must be really tired because I just realized it was muted. Anyone think the drone sound is a generator? I just thought about it, the hospital would obviously be using multiple generators if there was no power, and they would make a loud droning noise.

Phoenix the rooster is done crowing for today. He'll be back tomorrow.

No, there's little sound at the moment. If you turn it right up, you can hear the drone of the engines... and a bit of civilian traffic... but very little.

Well, KelticKraute, I think it's pretty Unanimous over here. Seems this group is stuck with "Phoenix the Rooster."
Didn't think it would catch on this quick.

Let your other networks know, lets see what they want to call it.

We might be able to make that rooster into a bit of a morning hero.

(Aside : I'll also be in the ATS Chat room, members who have been around long enough to have chat privileges, feel free to join me.)

Alright, I was reading Ramattan's website, and a few others have written in about how that same Rooster gives them hope each morning.

So I decided to write to them as well.
Here's the transcript of the e-mail.

Myself and many of my colleagues on the ATS (AboveTopSecret) network felt the same way as the American e-mailer who wrote to you saying the following :

"As sure as the Rooster crows through the night and every morning, and as I listen to the prayer calls through the bombs I know that PALESTINE,and the Palestinians will PREVAIL AGAIN!"

We decided the rooster needs a name.
We hear that rooster each morning, and it brings warmth to our hearts for a brief time to know that a new morning is being heralded in.
After putting forth a few suggestions, one has stuck, and we have taken to calling the rooster "Phoenix the Rooster".

He rises from the ashes each morning, and brings forth a new dawn.
(As is the legend of the Phoenix.)

I think it's quite fitting. Regardless of how insignificant it may be, it's boosting morale here... it may just do the same for some of you.

So here's to you and your crew, keep up the good work, and stay safe.

... and here's to hearing Phoenix the Rooster crow for many more mornings to come.

Personally I think that Rooster is very inspiring.
I know it's just a rooster... but for some reason it gives me hope for the civilians of Gaza.

Awww, I didn't feel it was off topic.
It had allot to do with the situation we're watching.

Mods, out of the kindness of your hearts, can you return the above posters (Sven's) post?

Anyhow, I'm glad to see the violence has lulled for the mean time. I still hear ambulance crews scrambling about down there.

For the meantime, the civilians there can get a little rest... however short it may be.

Last night was very quite before went to bed and stopped watching.

Im hearing alot more small arms fire today and alot less bombardment.

Are the IDF ground forces moving in on their final goal? They did say that phase three was about to begin?

I think Phoenix is a good name because it symbolizes to me the rising from the ashes. Literally people are waking up with ashes all around and figuratively hope is rising from the ashes. Plus, its a bird. Works on every level.

I have a question to pose , since Ramattan is Hamas news channel, does this make them enemy combatants to the IDF? In Vietnam, Stars and Stripes reporters were still soldiers at war, but they abided by the ethics of journalists. It seems interesting to me, cause I am an amateur journalist, and it would suck badly if that is the case. Journalists don't fight.

From what I heard yesterday, Ramattan and the other news company in the building have an agreement with Israel not to be fired upon... but were very upset when Israeli forces opened fire on them regardless of that agreement.

They have light beacons on their roofs to identify the buildings as press buildings at night so they don't get bombed.

Unfortunately, it doesn't seem like Israeli forces are all being told the same information.

All is still quiet on screen for now.

The guy on the loudspeaker is really giving that full WW2 urban combat propaganda feel to the whole feed.

They also said at the beginning of this that they'd never consider occupying Gaza... yesterday I read a report stating they were thinking of a 4th phase which involved total military occupation.

I don't think Israel is going to be giving up their land grab just yet.
(Is it too early to call it a land grab?)

its all about that crappy piece of real estate.

I hope they burn for what they are doing. man!!! after watching the cam for the last few days, i have lost the little hope i had in the IDF having some humanity in them.

what upset me today was that they didn't even wait for the morning prayers to be over before they started bombing.

We shall see if it's a land grab when they make the decision to occupy or not.

But yes, that got me too. But the IDF and Palestinians don't follow the same religion, and it's expected that they wouldn't respect their prayers... especially during an invasion.

how are things standing at the moment?
I was watching/recording until 00.30 or so, and around there
the fights were pretty heavy. i can see the smoke rising in
town but is the due to last nights fights or are they still bombing
away? my sound is off due to me being in school.

interesting to see if Israel will change their mind and continue to go in...
Let's hope not.

They are stuck on the one shot of a smoking building. . but man, it's picked up. You can hear bombs going off at the tune of one every 10 seconds now. . .

edit: slowed a bit. Still bombs going off in distance at tune of 1 every minute or so.
