There is real magma moving all across the world. What's your point?

If many more scientists, geologists, etc., start issuing warnings and taking this seriously, maybe I'll start paying attention to it -- otherwise, this story is of the same caliber as the previous two in terms of blatant overreacting.

My chihuahua is acting strange. He wouldn't go outside, and he kept staring WEST. Yellowstone is west from here.....I'm starting to worry now. I noticed my eggs cooked quicker today, perhaps that is because the temperature from the imminent eruption has slightly raised the ambient temp. Maybe this guy is onto something. Coincidence that it's a new year, and a new president, and troops in times square, and chemtrails, and ufo's. Israel is battling terrorists, my gosh, hear the warning bells people!!! Nevermind, nothing is going to happen.

i would say we shoud be more aware the fact that the iceage is i think 60000 years to late. According to measurements in ice they have measured several iceages and everyone had almost exactly 600 000 years apart ( big ice age) so that should be more likly the Yellowstone Volcano. Not intended to change topic

They said 250 swarm quakes since last friday.
The Wyoming Office of Homeland Security is reviewing Earthquake response plans and also monitoring the seismic activity. That's all.
I think they should call in Bruce Willis team and drill down the ten miles drop a Atomic bomb and blow it into china.
Or better still drill down and tap for free energy.

Probably off topic but at dinner tonight I ask my husband if he heard about the quakes at YellowStone. He said yea its going to blow. This is a man who dosent believe any of the things I tell him about...lol Was just shocked to hear that response from him. My mind keeps going back to that damn web bot. Could it be on to something after all??

Whoever is writing those articles, they keep repeating themselves. It's getting kind of old since we are dealing with a life threatening event.

I think I know which map you mean, don't have a link sorry. There are many active Volcanoes that are always on alert status, i.e; Hawaiian Islands. Often Mt St Helens is on alert, but it doesn't imply a major eruption is imminent or occuring. Some are dormant, some are always awake and others will suddenly erupt.

The Homeland Security reviewing earthquake plans part of your statement makes me a little bit uneasy. Remember 7/7? Weren't they doing a drill for the bombs right when they went off and in 9/11 something similar happened right? Hmm.... it is a volcano, and volcano/earthquake? Similarities i suppose but who knows..... AHH here it is...

On the morning of September 11, the CIA was running a drill which centred around the scenario of planes crashing into government buildings. In yet another 'extraordinary coincidence' the CIA said that the operation had been planned for months but was cancelled as soon as the 'real' attack unfolded. This so-called drill was likely used to get NORAD to stand down. When it was announced that the planes had been hijacked word would have come down that it was just a CIA drill and not to respond. The existence of this 'drill' was released and watered down to prevent the whole truth coming out later. This also destroys the government's lie that the thought of airliners being used as weapons never crossed their minds!

You are not really off topic.
Yellowstones supervolcano cycle is around every 600 000 years.It is estimated that it has been over 640 000 years since the last event.The scientific view is that it is overdue.

I feel I need to chime in on this one.

I am a Sr. Mechanical Engineer and have been for 27 years.
I mainly work in Aerospace. I was just on a new plane project
for a very large company as one of 23 Lead Engineers.
( I just wanted to set the base, no ego here)

This geologist has way too much to lose by making the statements he did.
Not to mention a youtube video to boot, and he was there in Yellowstone yesterday to make it.
If I were to tell everyone that certain planes will break and fall out of the sky, the FBI would be on my door step in less than an hour.

He knows this. As a professional, you are held to certain standards of conduct. He seems to check out with all the information. He is known in the field and respected.
I don't think this guy is jerking any ones chain at all.

As far as the poster of this thread. As it's been stated, "Don't shoot the messenger"!

I live in Kansas, I will be watching close as I can. I have supplies that I got
in the last few days. Yes, plenty of shells and bullets. I'll sit back and it will either happen, or it will not. Everything I bought will be used up in the next months anyways, so no big deal. But I don't want to wait until the govt. comes out and tells me.
That's why we are on this site. To be ahead of the crowd on knowledge.

anyway topic at hand: One guys screaming in a melodramatic way is not convincing in the least.

Some things to think about. I can't say i have all the answers nor would i say i'm even close to being a novice in this subject. I did take historical geology. My professor had the hots for me (for whatever odd reason) and so i had to put up with more lecture then i really wanted to get. Anyway, he expounded on Yellowstone once. A few points from that lecture:

1. Simply because the caldera erupted one way thousands of years ago does not mean it will erupt the same way today.
2. The ash spread will be determined by the prevailing winds at the time.
3. The dating itself is open to argument.
4. Humans as a species are very different from the animals/humanoids that populated the earth during the last super volcanic eruption. You have brains, you grow weed in your closets and tomatoes in water vats. Humanity will not die out. Chill...No need to scare people.

Actually, it's between 600,000 to 800,000 thousand years.

Yellowstone Lake Earthquake Swarm Update: 2 January 2008

The University of Utah Seismograph Stations reports that as of 1800 MST on 2 January 2009, seismicity of the ongoing Yellowstone earthquake swarm continues. Over 500 earthquakes, as large as M 3.9, have been recorded by an automated earthquake system since the inception of this unusual earthquake sequence that began Dec. 27, 2008. More than 300 of these events have been reviewed and evaluated by seismic analysts. Depths of the earthquakes range from ~ 1km to around 10 km. We note that the earthquakes extend northward from central Yellowstone Lake for ~10 km toward the Fishing Bridge area, with a migration of recent earthquakes toward the north. Some of the dozen M3+ earthquakes were felt in the Lake, Grant Village and Old Faithful areas. Personnel of the Yellowstone Volcano Observatory continue to evaluate this earthquake sequence and will provide information to the NPS, USGS and the public as it evolves.

But they do go on to say..

This earthquake sequence is the most intense in this area for some years. No damage has been reported within Yellowstone National Park, nor would any be expected from earthquakes of this size. The swarm is in a region of historical earthquake activity and is close to areas of Yellowstone famous hydrothermal activity. Similar earthquake swarms have occurred in the past in Yellowstone without triggering steam explosions or volcanic activity. Nevertheless, there is some potential for hydrothermal explosions and earthquakes may continue or increase in magnitude. There is a much lower potential for related volcanic activity.

By the way if that is your real pic, you are hot both physically and mentally!

None the less, you are nieve to think if a super volcano blows that you will be able to get food, especially if you are near the ash zone! Everyone should be prepared for a natural or manmade disaster and have survival supplies of a few weeks to months!

Why did I quote a movie, because it was relevant, somebody outside of the government figured out the problem and sounded the alarm!

Translation - I tend to believe a qualified professional than a government bureaucrat!

I live in Utah and have felt earthquakes before. Recently I've felt more than I have possibly ever felt in my entire 20 years of living. All of them really quite faint and I could only feel standing on an extremely hard surface like at my work.

I'll admit, something maybe up and its scary hearing from UoU's Geological Dept. that Yellowstone has been having an increasingly dangerous amount of earthquakes in the past few months.

I just don't honestly think, though however professional this amateur geologist may think he is, should be crying wolf before the USGS, local governments and larger government has a chance to fathom what might be going on.
