3.4

That's a nice little jolt.

First time in a long time posting a link.

Good grief I am so lame when it comes to computer stuff

A little grumbly, she is.
Probably jealous of the Mammoth Lakes swarm...

LOL!

Looking at the big picture, I am quietly wondering if we might see a bigger jolt around the New Madrid?

Yeah, I hear ya

I was just out looking for possible contributing factors to the uptick - Solar Activity, Planetary Alignment, etc...
Not seeing anything that really stands out, other than the fact that the 4 inner planets are all bunched-together in fairly close proximity.

YMR being so sensitive sure accentuates the activity at Yellerstone. All of the little ones on the YPM display stand out much more...

YMR

Maybe a BINGO for you my friend.

I received an email from an astrology friend about the planets coming together and it could cause some Havoc.

I haven't totally decided if I believe the planets can cause havoc in our personal lives, but I most definitely agree they do cause magnetic

pull on the earth.

And make things go bump in the nite

I'm kinda in a silly mood tonite, so please excuse me if I seem a little flipit.

Yeah, it does make one ponder the correlation between increased magnetic influence and seismic activity for sure.
I could see it having an effect on large bodies of molten minerals and metals.
I see that the Tremor at Etna has been fluctuating quite a bit over the last few days, which fits in nicely with that idea...

I thought TA's comment on this was interesting.

I hope it's o.k. I'm reposting this. I was thinking, it's should be in the Yellowstone thread also for future reference.

Things have been quiet. However it seems to me we have had an uptick in volcanic activity.

I'm still having that quiet little thought about the New Madrid.

I also am wondering if that jolt in Georgia is related to the weather.

I have much to learn about the geology of our home here on earth. So my quiet thoughts don't have a lot of education behind them.

I think IF yellowstone were to REALLY to be an issue
of concern it would be broadcasted very quickly aside from USGS info.

with SOO many social media outlets, it would be VERY hard to conceal
any REAL issues involving Yellowstones activity

well we all know that YVO where schratsing there heads for the new sequence of 2 simultanisly swarms...
now they have to find an modell for 4....

Oh FFS.

Yeah? Well let me put a stop to those rumors right now, at least on this site of halfway SANE people.

The USGS ain't suppressing jack doo-doo. Cause if they were, I certainly wouldn't be looking at the friggin screens I am seeing right now. I am aware of all earthquake activity there, and other places. Any "perceived" suppressing of quake activity only comes about because the University of Utah, that processes earthquake info for YS, takes evenings and weekends off- so reports are often delayed. But that's only for smaller, sub mag 3 activity. The NEIC still processes and posts the bigger quakes within minutes. We just saw this happen with that 3.0 that hit near Hebgen Lake.

That youtube video is absolute BS. The YVO (USGS) just released an info statement about recent ground uplift at YS, and I posted a thread about that here:

www.abovetopsecret.com...

Why would they release this if they were suppressing data? And why... OMFG. Just never mind.

This is bad BAD, Ungodlike Productions type horse manure.

true words :-)
but yellowstone is something special..

every other volcano in the US can erupt with only local effects but if USGS even is considering to place yellowstone ore long valley in the yellow alert mode ..... wall street will crash instantly !

no-one will burn his hand on billions of dollars losses

IF she goes ...she goes......no question about it but wat hero will speak the magic words before that?
knowing that human losses are already incalculated

that is the issue that feeds the reliability of USGS in this case
P/S :
wat's the value of the most used phrase "normal behaviour" after 50 years reserche on an millions years old system....?

I just came across this link talking about Helium 4 increases at Yellowstone, I don't know much about this sort of stuff but can other people here verify that and share there thoughts on this:

www.preppersworldusa.com...

Study released today on Yellowstone helium: [link to www.nature.com]
The scientists who revealed today’s information report the quantity of helium-4 in Yellowstone’s gas emissions is hundreds to thousands of times greater than it should be — a sign that the crust is releasing its ancient stores of the rare isotope, the researchers said.”However, much of the helium emitted from this region is actually radiogenic helium-4 produced within the crust by decay of uranium and thorium. Today’s report shows by combining gas emission rates with chemistry and isotopic analyses, that crustal helium-4 emission rates from Yellowstone exceed (by orders of magnitude) any conceivable rate of generation within the crust.” This means the Helium -4 is coming from very far beneath the ground, a clear signal that something big is happening that hasn’t happened in Yellowstone in our lifetime.

The last line of your quoted material is completely misleading. (not your fault--the writer of the piece bears responsibility)

Here is a different summary of the Nature paper.

Helium-4 is the product of the radioactive decay of thorium and uranium. In most places around the world, it is released into the atmosphere via water or earthquake fault pathways. But the crustal rocks of the North American craton have been boringly stable for 100's of millions of years, so the helium was trapped in the dense rock. That is, until these ancient continental rocks moved over the Yellowstone "hotspot".

Things began to change roughly 2 million years ago, however, when hot magma intruded on the crustal system from below and triggered several enormous volcanic eruptions, the most recent about 640,000 years ago.

So these ancient rocks have been "cooking" for nearly 2 million years, and that's when they began releasing the trapped helium.

According to the director of the YVO:

"This really isn't a volcano story," Lowenstern said. "But it reveals how the Earth's crust behaves on a long time frame. The crust 'holds its breath' for long periods of time, and then releases it during tectonically and volcanically active bursts."

This study in no way indicates "a clear signal that something big is happening that hasn’t happened in Yellowstone in our lifetime", as the prepper story stated.

yes and no.....

yvo says:
The crust 'holds its breath' for long periods of time, and then releases it during tectonically and volcanically active bursts."

so if the levels of helium4 is increasing now ( after 650.000 years heating up) than its now increasing activity tectonic and volcanic

right?

The levels of helium-4 aren't increasing.

From the Nature abstract

It seems that helium has accumulated for (at least) many hundreds of millions of years in Archaean (more than 2.5 billion years old) cratonic rocks beneath Yellowstone, only to be liberated over the past two million years by intense crustal metamorphism induced by the Yellowstone hotspot.

This high level of He-4 outgassing has been ongoing for nearly 2 million years.

Compared to the 2.5 billion year age of the rocks involved, the past 2 million years of activity can rightly be characterized as a "tectonically and volcanically active burst".

Isnt Yellowstone a volcano? If that was to pop you can say goodby to the USA. Forget Obama destroying it that will do it in a split second..
