Even if that were where the activity were located, the stations in the middle should be able to pick up something that big and that close by.

Maybe yes and maybe no. I am giving notice that there could be a conspiracy afoot. I suggest thinking outside the box. That's what conspiracy sites a for.

Besides the point that im posting on this topic so i can be part of history, whats the word so far on Yellowstone? Is there more evidence that it may erupt? Also, has anyone heard about Russia's volcanos showing activity as well?

Well that's different.

I first thought it was more YMH weirdness but its on five sensors?

Did someone spill a coke into the routers or something?

The more I watch the YS monitors the more I wonder how the heck they can do their jobs with such crappy equipment.

Yellowstone. Mostly background normal stuff, some interesting readings from the lakes - but really - all within mean averages over time. Still watching - so basically... not really anything interesting except the people wearing shorts and waving at the Live Cam yesterday. =)

As for Russia:

KlIUCHEVSKOI

KVERT reported that seismic activity at Kliuchevskoi was above background levels during 1-9 January. Strombolian activity and lava effusion on the NW flank continued. Analysis of satellite imagery revealed a large daily thermal anomaly in the crater. Ashfall was reported in Kozyrevsk village (about 50 km W) on 1 January. Ash plumes drifted 60 km N on 1 January and 35 km SW on 2 January.

forgot to add that SHIVELUCH also has above background activity, with an ash plume above 28,000 feet. Satellite imagery reveals a large thermal anomaly on the lava dome and an ash plume that drifted 25 km W on 6 January. Gas-and-steam emissions were seen on 2, 4, and 6 January. Ash deposits were noted in areas about 10 km SW on 7 January. The Level of Concern Color Code remained at Orange for SHIVELUCH

Yellowstone remains GREEN

It was not just 5 stations showing that pattern at 3:15 UTC .... it was 6 stations.... Mammoth, Soda Butte, Parker Peak, West Thumb, The Promotory, Lake Butte ... all are on the rim of the caldera!

Let's not forget "teleseisms," "trucks," "mining explosions," "power surge," "drift in the DC Offset Voltage used to Re-Center the input scaling after a event," "road plowing," "non QCed data," "avalanche blasting," "telemetry noise." Okay, that's just going back a dozen pages and I'm not going to dig around in more electronics horse pucky. Gotta hand it to them, these are some hard-working shills.

Whoa a bit defensive there eh.. This is truly the BEST forum Ive been on in awhile and it's simply because I dont care how scientific you are or even if you work for USGS because the fact is that no one will know when mother nature makes this baby burp. The only way to know how a volcano is going to react to its enviroment is if you have the scientific documentation from its previous eruptive state. At YS they have been witness to things of late that 'were' new and interesting and with the swelling, bloated belly of this bad boy perhaps something never seen before. All I know is that this volcano will blow; perhaps not for 100 years or longer but in order to prepare for that event (it might take 300 years) I'm glad it has gotten the attention it deserves and people are acknowleging er for er true worth. Might help with the funding issues etc.. As far as any of it is concerned I'm going to keep checking in with these wonderful, outside-the-box people that might be able to come up with a determination of status without regard for their jobs etc.. If they can give us a 2 hour head start, whoa I'll be thankful.

In reality, everyone who really knows what Yellowstone is, and yet still chooses to live there on their own- has had a formidable head start that maybe civilizations in our past did not have because it could be that our technology may be the most advanced of any civilization yet. I say that because as new discoveries are made, I am coming more to believe that life existed may times around, over and over on this planet. And it's possible that one of those could have had breakthroughs in other areas that there is today no trace of if civilization was completely wiped out due to an ELE.

But people may be forced to reckon with that decision one day. I agree that just about anywhere you choose to live is dangerous for one reason or the other, but jeez I'll take a hurricane or tornado any day over THAT beast.

The human vocabulary is 30% of what it was a 150 years ago.. It is entirely my preception that people are getting dumber and definetly a LOT less instinctual about our immediate surroundings - not to mention our COMPLETE disconnection from nature.. I dont care how many graphs we read (they are interesting) but I've also witnessed a person predict an earthquake the night before it happened by HEARING it. Now i'm not that gifted but....there is something humanity is missing that it had in those past times of mediocore "technology." I think it is why we are all here today.. Cheers, and I've only had 4 beers :-)

I live next door to that beast; Thank you very much. Do you think I'm worried? Not really. We had a very good meeting last night in our local Ham radio club on how we would try to evacuate our local population away from here, to the east, they say. We came to one conclusion... If she blows like she did 640,000 years ago, we're screwed. Plain and simple...

When, and if the time comes, I'll be standing on a ridge top gettin' a closer look. I'll go out in style, no doubt...

Kinda funny, isn't it?
