I still think that the "activity" on YPP is due to data or software glitch. If you look closely you'll see that traces are very flat and thin but with very frequent extremely short unidirectional spikes. The don't look natural at all and they don't seem to be coming from the ground, as such strong signals would be picked by nearby stations.

[edit on 2009/1/11 by Shirakawa]

YPP has gone senile .. it needs some TLC from UT/USGS electronics technicians. RFBURNS ; please jump in here before the lemmings start jumping off the cliff .....

Do you all think that that Yahoo article about "Yellowstone Hysteria" yesterday was a "warning" or a nod to us that they (usgs or utah or at least post docs) are reading this blog?

I feel like we're doing a lot of watch dogging and researching for them.

we should get a stipend

DRAGON'S MOUTH
Temperature 170.2°F Dimensions 18x30 feet. Depth 16 feet. Dragon's Mouth is a turbulent hot spring with a cavernous mouth. Water sloshes rhythmically in and out of the cavern giving the impression of a large overflow; however, the actual discharge is quite small. Much of the activity and energy is located within the cavern. As hot water rises to the surface, hydrogen sulfide, carbon dioxide, and water vapor gases expand creating a pressure explosion in the cavern. The resulting activity is sloshing, belching, and steaming.

This is the type of feature I was thinking of for new activity wise, but it'd be too large to go unnoticed when it started.

BLACK DRAGON'S CALDRON
Temperature 191 °F Dimensions 80x200 feet. Depth 36 feet. This thermal feature did not exist before the winter of 1947-1948, and it was first discovered on June 10,1948. Thermal activity may have shifted from Sour Lake to form Black Dragon's Caldron. When it was discovered, a crater about 43x68 feet existed at the northern end of the present pool. Since then, eruptive activity has slowly moved south 200 feet along a natural crack. Hydrogen sulfide rising within the spring has combined with oxygen to form sulfuric acid, creating a hostile environment for plant life. Iron sulfides are responsible for the black color of the caldron.

Is another potential 'type' similar to Dragon's Mouth, though those two features are past the north end of the lake by a few miles, not too too far from the last swarm. (More or less.)

Unfortunately the region more noted for that sort of thing is W-NW of the lake, so its likely that sort of feature would not form there. Also Paint Pots/Mud Pots etc are located to the west of the lake and don't form in the area either, (from what I can find.) So a hot pot isn't likely either.

I am seeing a lessoning of activity there, so who knows what was going on there.
M.

HI all! Just wanted to summarize here to everyone.
Oh, heres a link to ALL the webcams and other good stuff
for the newcomers! I was not even aware of some of these cams!
www.yellowstoneparknet.com...

Anyway, RF Burns, I would like to thank you from probably a
bijillion of us out here in cyber land! If that baby helps it'll be
the cats meow! Many, Many, Many thanks!

Mushussu, well said. I'll leave that right there! No need to "utilize" that!

HX 1963 thank you for all of it!

Thought provoker, the answer is yes. Good eye by the way!

Mamtech, yes more than yellowstone. We have several
train wrecks due to arrive at our station anytime!
Call it paybacks if you will. Mama N's pissed!
She got the go ahead to make nasty!

Jeff, thanks for posting that! I was looking for that awhile!
Forgot to grab it when it was posted a couple times already!
Geez theres alot of info to wade through!

Pan, where there is smoke there is fire, ESPECIALLY in this case!
Especially.

Want to close with that. Being suspicious is a good thing, really.
They can't rip us off and get away with it quite as easy that way!

Note to mamtech: get yours now before SHTF, eh?
Seems to be the mantra. Sad and funny both.
Nuff Said, back to work.
Thank you all for your contributions!
Oops, wrong link! :duh

I'm still not turning off my BS detector!
Y'all just keep analyzing your useful, corruptable, pristine, highly reliable info for the rest of us non'geeks! Thanks!

Edit for clarification:
I'm kidding around here and none of this is true! No. I'm kidding. Huh?

They just realized we weren't only watching lkwy (they turned the real system on at ypp to have a peek - but then shut it off when they read out thread
now we have the decoy readings again. - just kidding - who knows - but it does seem that way sometimes.

In addition to the above the site below has a good pictoral display of what is in the area of YPP. The guy is a hiker but took some good shots of the area

Phantom Fumaroles, Shoshone Geyser Basin, Lone Star geyser.

Ok so we have Phantom Fumarole in the region of Pitchstone Plateau station, not that it's close close but more or less near there. Melting snow making it respond/wake up triggering the sensor? *shrug* I have no idea, may have to see if we see a resurgence of activity there.

www.scribd.com...

I dig this place! Scroll down a wayz and look at some of the pics!
HEAR THAT EVERYONE? Stop & smell the roses and all that.
We are unique people and blah, blah, blah.

Anyway, thought we needed the right perspective.
It is soooo so beautifill, the pics still don't do it justice!

Edit to add: Thanks Mushussu!
We forget sometimes we are only here a short time and we need
to make the most of it! Awesome power this place has!

I see lots

Calif, Alaska - all over europe and a new one in the pacific - "throbbing" right now.

you don't see any? or just not at Y

but there are more volcano icons than last week all over the globe - that is for sure - let's start a count to have it on record on the thread.

No offense, but I find the rsoe site about as reliable as a source for accurate information as debka, or the delusional and/or psychotic sorcha. (any site that uses armageddononline or godlikeproductions as a source of content concerning yellowstone is just plain .... well... crazy)

No offense.

BBQ Lemmings taste just like dark meat chicken.

I think I had 29 volcanoes at last count on RSOE but I thought that several were on alert or erupting in Alaska and none of them appear at the site. They were there a couple weeks ago but not no more!

I agree that it's an odd site. the postings / blog section is very small and stops in 2006

it does have a lot of users around the world - but the most are in the US

it would be interesting to see who funds it.

and why it's a hungarian url

can I really not post an image if I don't have a website of my own to host it on?

it seems that if it chooses to grab an image off of my desk top - it posts my home url with my name etc. I trust you all - but since we know homeland security is watching us - I don't want to make their job that easy.

how do you guys post images? like screen shots -now that I have been helped how - and thanks for that!!

I may not know enough about volcanoes to be able to contribute to this thread, but I can help with this.

You need to create an account with a photo storage site that allows hotlinking ~ I happen to use and like photobucket.com ~ and upload your pics there and link to them.
