Can anyone map this data (the discharge levels at Yellowstone Lake) against both precipitation levels and temperature?

I have spent a few hours trolling through all the water data I can find.

What I can tell you so far is that:

a) The lake outlet stopped recording temperature of water in 1985 and does not record precipitation.

b) Of the other stations in the YNP area all measurement appear to within the norm. Precipitation has been climbing but gauge levels and discharges are all flat or there abouts, and in some cases falling. 2 stations could not be read for discharge because of ice. Notable exception......

c) The lake is the ONLY station showing increasing discharge and gauge height.

Multiple spelling errors as usual!! Edited

water in 1895 and !!?? I give up - I need an editor!

Morning.
Hmmm, interesting! I've been saying we need to watch this!

If something happens next saturday I hope I'll
still be here to laugh at alot of you!

That's probably more than the warning we'd ever get from
these so called "experts" about this one! LOL

Dreams aren't the end of the world, but if they keep happening,
the same ones, then I'd worry.

Let me know if there is ever a snake in em'. Please?

www.msnbc.msn.com...

Not sure how to post links but looks like the media is playing the 900 plus quakes down. And look they even make mention about doomsday internet sites reporting and fearing about an erruption.

Sorry if someone has already put up a link to this

Really worrying if he is right IMHO.

i lean towards magmatic & hydrothermal pressure at depth causing the resurgent dome deformation ... the faults & rocks could be reaching the limits of how much the can store without breaking or moving(in the case of faults) ... a surge in magmatic pressure & or [ hdrothermal fluid movement (along faults, thus lubricating them) ] could be enhancing said effect

just a gut feeling ....

Glad you are using your intuition, but you're not helping us here!
You are supposed to be the one to say, it's only water and there
will probably only be a new geyser or something!

What do you make of the longish low magnitude event at 17:03:40ish? Picked up at YMP, YPK, YLA, YTP and others. All at the same time, so unlikely to be a wind gust. Would an avalanche look like that and be reported simultaneously?

Disclaimers: no I don't think the end is nigh, yes I've read the whole thread, I just want to know what you think of this trace which is why I'm asking.

on webcorders would we be able to tell the difference from a normal quake to a harmonic tremor?

we need to keep on eye out on gee ectect near ys for something that looks like this .www.swisseduc.ch...

it is a recording of a real harmonic tremor.. that is when we need to worry.

here is a better site

That links to a pic of your avatar. Frightening!

Anyway, I can't find it now but somewhere in some thread I read about Yellowstone somebody posted a link to harmonic tremors before the latest small St. Helens eruption, they were more like a solid block of color repeating in a pattern. I'm just curious what these long rumbly things might be, I've seen them before.

As you say it's been picked up over a fair area so it's probably not cultural noise, at least. I can't say if it's an avalanche as I'm not good enough at reading what they look like. (But gimme time...
) Can't find any quakes in other parts of the world that might have caused a teleseismic, either.

Taking into account the various scales of the recorders it seems to be in the NE/NNE region of the park (or perhaps beyond it). MCID (SW region) does show it as well, but very faintly, so NNE looks more likely.

So, just a little tremor, most likely.

Mike

I have been watching the Casper Star Tribune website since this started. They have a government office in Casper that is notified when there are earthquakes in Yellowstone. I heard from my government friend they were really watching it in 2004 thinking it was getting ready to erupt. I went out last week and stocked up on enough water and canned food to fill the car if we need to leave in a hurry.

True, go the AVO/PSNS/USGS sites for examples ... they look totally different

Keep us informed of your theory(s). (if possible)
It has been mentioned before, and
I too am curious as to the validation
of this!

I would think there should be a better
way to discern what is actually going on!
FCOL (4 cryin' out loud)

UM, I am replying to Puterman also!

a longish event ( i haven't looked yet) sounds like a distant earthquake, check IRIS or NEIS, or USGS world earth quake pages

Catch 22 indeed!!! It does alarm me that they don't appear to have the necessary equipment to get the best overall picture possible about something potentially so destructive!!
