If bulging were causing the increase in the discharge what would happen to the temperature of the water, anything? Assuming that bulging would reveal new surface area under the water it seems logical that a change in temp would result unless the "new" surface area was at or near the same temp as the "old" surface area.

It would appear to me if water flow was increasing out of the lake that there could be a possibility the underside is bulging upward, pushing water outward to the southeast end.
