If it is an anomaly seen it nature it is normal. The book title indicates that it is socially unusual for a male to lactate but, it can occur.

Of course I already knew that male mammals at times can lactate. My neighbor's male dog in the 80's would steal kittens from the local ferals and nurse them.

If it is seen in nature then it is natural, but doesn't also equate to being normal. Maybe I’m using the wrong word here for I’m not suggesting it is a freak of nature, but an abnormality of the brian.

Homosexuality was removed from the DMS because the American Psychiatric Association determined it did not fit as a mental illness, and not that it is now normal.

For something to be labeled as a mental illness you need suffering and or impairment of thought, mood, or behavior, and homosexuality doesn't directly cause any of this, as other mental abnormalities do, and so are also labeled mental illnesses.

Getting back to the OP.

I think we have established how little choice there is in the matter so the question is really "When did you work out what you were?"

I worked out that I was strait around 10 when girls started to become intriguing.

Then a few years later, around 12/13 I realised that I wasn't as strait as I once thought after getting a crush on another boy. That was scary.

Actually I did try to choose to be strait but it didn't work. Being a christian and believing it to be wrong for many years caused a lot of internal conflict and undue-stress. That threw me into depression a number of times. I'm happy now though.

I've always liked girls. I was kissing them when other boys my age were saying 'eewwwewwww!" when it came to girls. I was damn sure that I liked girls when I saw my first playboy foldout at 9 years. I never have liked boys or men and would rather work & play with girls.

I've been a male escort for several males. Older guys who wanted me to be their escort to leather bars and such. Never, in any of those situations was I the least bit attracted to any of the males I encountered.

I've been asked something close to this before, "How do you know you're straight?"

Don't get me wrong, I'm trying to help LGBT rights with donations and speeches, I ate at the Castro last night, I've been to several gay parades, but I'm straight.
So my friend asked me this and I replied:

Well, its this: When you think of sodomizing another male, you enjoy that thought. It makes me nauseous when I imagine me doing it.

That's how I know.

I think we are all born a-sexual yet bi-sexual.

When first born, you are unable to be sexually active; produce babies, therefore a-sexual.

However you do have sensations in areas that are considered sexual; therefore bi-sexual, no-prefernce.

So, the potential is left up to your genetic make-up and how you are brought up; Nature & Nuture.

I was attracted to the first woman I can remember who wasn't my mother.

I was born this way. I just silenced myself for fear of being accused of cuties.

DAMN, I could have had some hot girlfriends in my youth..... Or at least kept them as friends until I was... a teenager.

I remember that I was such a slow adapter to the culture of my classroom, always behind them. When everyone else got girlfriends, I didn't realize it was cool. Then, of course, I noticed all the sadness and crappy relationships my friends had. Being the logical little child I was, I used them as my scientific experiments..... I didn't get a girlfriend, I watched their relationships and learned why they sucked. I even introduced a few rumors to see how strong their relationship was.... I think I broke up about 3 or 4 couples.

Now, I can have stable, true relationships. All because I made my classmates lives my experiments.

yay??

Haha, wow you sound like a swell friend to have.

We did not have cooties when I was little. I'm not sure why but at our primary school, there wasn't any conflict or segregation between the boys and girls.

We all played together at times and at others would play separately. There were also plenty of tomboys which I always thought interesting. I can tell you when I played with the girls when they were playing girly games, I didn't get any shtick from the boys (as rare an occurrence as it was, I mostly played with dinky cars in the dirt with my mixed gender group of friends).

Hadn't heard of cooties till I got to highschool.

A thought - from where i read in the papers gay people have a higher then normal amount of testosterone then straight people. This higher then normal level is what causes homosexuality.

So in a way homosexuality is something that's not normal in our bodies and you'd think if that was the case then you'd wan't whatevers not normal with your body to be normal right?

So wouldn't it make sense to get that higher then normal testosterone level cured? when there is something wrong with our bodies we get it fixed, cured. if testosterone level is abnormal enough to be causing people to be homosexual, then shouldn't homosexuality be a 'disease'? in which should be cured?

Homosexuality has not been considered a disease for a long time. Even if testosterone levels were lowerable, it wouldn't be the cure to homosexuality.

Higher testosterone levels aren't the cause anyway, as I (and many others) have explained, it is hard-wired into our brains from birth. Changing our chemical signature won't change someone's orientation, but it will have plenty of other, less desirable side-effects.

Nonheterosexuality is caused by a mistake (complication) in our formation, so is in a sense a flaw, but it becomes part of who we are. Not all flaws are bad, and most non-heterosexuals wouldn't want to change for that reason. I sure don't.

Good on you man, you strike me as an open minded guy.

Have a star.

But yea, sexual orientation is a part of human biology, and as with every system in biology, consistent perfect results aren't always produced..

I would like serious answers please.

This is a question that keeps coming up in threads about homosexuality and it keeps getting ignored by the very people who say that being gay is a choice.

So,if us homosexuals choose our sexuality I would like to know when you heterosexuals choose yours.

How old were you?
5? 15? 21? 35?
Have you always just known?
Were you born that way?

Did you try being gay first?
Did you experiment before making your decision?

When did you choose to let your subconscious,an uncontrollable part of the brain, think of the opposite sex in physical and emotional ways?

Inquiring minds would like to know.

[edit on 25-12-2008 by DantesLost]

I think you're asking the wrong question. It's not a matter of whether one chooses to be straight or gay. Engaging in homosexual behavior is a choice though. Everyone has certain predilictions , but it's the choice to act on them which is the differentiation.

There are distinctions between disorders and illness though. Neither are normal, but there are different thresholds to qualify which status one is in.

Non-heterosexuality is not a disorder or an illness. It's not bad, it's not "curable".
