Yeah been following and commenting in the other threads - last update I have is my last post above.

I suspect he has been out to Yellowstone - would be surprised if he hasn't - but he hasn't confirmed this.

When he calls, do you have call display that shows his location? When I get calls from the US here in Canada, it says which state is calling.

Seems he's been gone for quite some time now including xmas.

I haven't had a good look at Baker since these posts. I can't see it directly from my home, but my street winds up the hill, and homes above me can. We have alot of mountains and hills, and depending on whch road you're on you see it, turn the corner, then you don't. Not been out as much because of the snow that seems neverending, and of course it obscures the viisblity. If it did blow though, I'm sure I would see the ash plumes shooting up behind the Sumas mountain. This mountain blocks the view from my home. It's said the Baker would drop significant ash in my area. Mount St Helens blew in 1980, and ash landed on our yard in Vancover area. I missed the event because I was travelling abroad.

There's been some avalanches and deaths on some mountains, but this is normal for the season.

Nobody around here really talks about volcanoes erupting, even though st helens was a wake up call. I have just re-insured my home for the year. They called to update info and we talked about flood coverage and earthquake coverage, but volcanoes were not mentioned. Maybe there is no insurance for them? I should look into that.

Interesting to note, and maybe it's nothing to do with all this: when they called they raised the earthquake coverage to a very high rate. It was so much higher I considered cancelling that part, thinking will it really happen? They said everyone's complaining and changing their mind about the EQ coverage. The info was to assess how much my home would cost to rebuild. Rate was based on that. They requested it be signed by Dec 25th. We didn't, but have now and in fact it wasn't due on the 25th afterall.

@ Dutty_Rag : thanks for keeping us updated and I'm sorry to hear your dad still isn't home. But it's a good thing they call in a good expert... I think it may be very much needed...

Say hi to your dad from us, and ask him when he gets home if he wants to join ATS, we could sure do with a vulcanologist here!

That's interesting about quake insurance - do you really get quakes up there that could destroy a home outright?

Not sure about volcano coverage - I suspect it would be covered somewhere? It all seems pretty stupid. If the mountain blows and there is an companying huge quake - how do they decide what destroyed your house? And to add to that what if there was a huge mud slide that caused huge flooding at the same time.

You know what insurance companies are like - they probably would wriggle out of it!

Yes we live in an active EQ zone. Supposedly we are due for a major 9.0'er. But it could happen any minute or a hundred yrs. We would have soil liquification problems, and some say Vancouver Island would go under the BC coast, so it's a subduction issue. Vancouver Island region has had alot of quakes this past year, none of which caused any damage.

We also live around Volcanoes. Mt Baker's drainage is in fact into the Fraser Valley where I live.

We will be hosting the 2010 Olympics. Many of the events will be on Whistler Mountain, but as far as I know it isn't a volcano, but is near some maybe. They (Lafarge, the biggest greediest aggregate Bilderberg company in the world who once had Hilary C and Bush Sr on board of directors) are upgrading the Sea To Sky Highway, which is always having mudlslides and accidents. Lafarge did the Levee upgrades after katrina, and in fact I think they installed them in the first place.. They do it ALL.

In fact Lafarge is very interested in the ash from volcanoes and helped clean up the ash from Chaitén Volcano to test if it could be made into cement. They're always there to help clean up any diisaster.

Generally volcanic activity is not included. Nor are mudslides, earth movement etc. unless you specifically purchase the coverage. But you would need to read the policy to be sure.

Yes I'm in insurance

There's a rather impressive batch of Earthquakes that have occurred within the Gulf of California recently:

Could an underwater volcanoe be about ready to pop it's cork?
