Not necessarily, they could be used to prove a point, make a statement or as a show of force. A demonstration could be worth a thousand words or could be use to generate an emp to take out electronics in an area. All without worry of retaliation because of reserve weapons.

serious historians, who are not under any governement influence dispute whether that preemptive action was necessary or not

If you will find one instance that Iranian leader (this ,previous or religious authority) used word Israel, after religious revolution - i will concur. One. Instead of it they say - Zionist regime. Not that hard.
So everyone sees what he wants to see. Napoleon wanted to change regime in Europe, Soviets said they wanted to change regime in Finland, Nazi Germany - in USSR and other thousands of example throughout the history. All ended in wars. But once again, there are people for whom such "delicate" and obscure rhetorics are enough to believe that this statement is peacefully call for a regime change from peaceful Iran. I suspect that even if he would say - throw Jews to sea - it will not change much. If one does not want to see he will not. By the way -check "sacking" post. He understood what Iranian leader meant ,in dozens of speeches with similar attitude.

The winds of change are blowing in Iran - the elections are soon , and most factions want the current president out, as Infinte said we will see a secular Iran in our lifetime;

and what a change this will be - a secular Iran vs an extremist Israel....

I doubt that there will be secular Iran - even if popular vote will decide it. However not that familiar with Iranian political life.
And of course i doubt that extremists will win in Israel. Right now they have less then 1/6 of parliament seats and probably there will be even less in next elections since a lot will go from them to Likud. So current Kadima and Likud are the likely winners. Both are not extremists.

Israel doesn't need nukes.

I was pretty sure Israel does not have a current nuclear weapons production program.
They did make weapons and have them stored but they don't make more now.
In fact NO country has an active nuclear weapons production program.
They have made them in the past and have them stockpiled.
But only newer states such as North Korea and Iran want to start one up and have an active weapons program.
The others have had them and stopped them and just have the weapons stored.
The world simply just does not need more nuclear weapons.
There is enough already in existence to turn the whole earth into an uninhabitable radioactive wasteland.
Many country's have active missile programs for various things but the warheads they already have made and don't make no more.

If Israel makes a wrong move in intimadating any country in the ME with nukes...trust me that would be the end of Israel. The whole Muslim world would declare war against Israel, and even before the US B2s could reach the mediterrenian, Israel would no longer exist.

It should be taken into account that there would be three countries that Israel has never gone up against in such a situation. ie Pakistan, Iran and Saudia which are all hostile towards the jewish state. One of them has nukes and the capability to launch them into Israel, one has nuclear ambitions and one right on Israel's doorstep would give Israel something more than just guerrillas that Israel has been happy in murdering for the past decade or so.

Palestines and muslims living in israel would all turn into suicide bombers exploding all over the country. Egypt and Lebenon would be like always attacking from the two sides of Israel. Syria would also start sending in the Syrian Army. Maybe the Turks would excersice restraint but no one knows what their reaction would be.

I don't think Israel could handle such a war, it would be i think over in a day or two and Jerusalem would once again be under whom it belongs...

Do you think the Saudi - peace plan has a chance of succeeding ?, I believe Shimon Peres gave a glowing endorsement directly to King Abdullah at the U.N .
With withdrawal from occupied land in exchange for Arab recognition a possibility , perhaps the word Israel may pass Ahmadinejad lips yet .
Though i`d imagine it will be the Israeli regime that he refers too.

I`m sure you follow this much closer than i do, for obvious reasons ,
why is there enthusiasm for this plan now , seeing as it was first proposed in 2002 ?
Has the deal been tweaked ?

I think that Saudi peace plan prospects depend on a lot of factors. If Kadima wins, and center/left will have majority over right wing (Likud, extremists) - then it has a chance. President (Shimon Peres) also pushes for it, but prime minister/cabinet in Israel is more important. If Likud wins it depends if Netanyahu will indeed form wide coalition or even national-wide government and what US position will be on this.
If right-wing coalition only will be formed chances are slim. Elections are in February so promises and platforms are already being thrown in the air - but it usually has little to do with real acts of government. At least here.

Also on the MAD side of things, Russia has more and more interest in middle east countries day by day, so Israel threatening those sources of income for Russia with destruction, will eventually lead to Russia taking up military bases in said countries, also they will place their own nuclear deterant in these countries, to prevent any crazy Jew from pressing the red button and ignighting thousands of Russian nationals (but if they ever did do so, they are assured their own destruction from one of the remaining countries or black sea subs).

It's not a matter of if they have nukes, it's how many. Honestly you still question if they have any at all? Do you live in a cave? This has been known for almost twenty years.

Yes Israel might be over run one day but what good would this do when the whole world would be over? You sound insane!

Do you honestly think Russians gives a piss about you? Unfortunately Russia only cares like the US cares because of the black gold the middle east is sitting on.

Amadhinejad would like to attack Israel with a nuclear weapon for 3 main reasons

1.he hates Israel and the Jews who live there

2.he believes that any Jews killed in an attack will end up in Hell,and any Iranians killed in any retaliatory attack will go straight to islamic paradise

3.he believes that any such conflagration will result in the appearance of the Mahdi,the so called muslim messiah who will win the world for islam


all in all a dangerous cocktail for the region to deal with.

It's obvious from his bombastic and egregious writing style that ergoli has quit a bit of hatred for Israel and the US. As a sovereign nation that's not a signatory to any inspection treaties Israel has no legal or moral obligations to open its nuclear weapon program or facilities to the UN, which is basically anti-Israel and a den of thieves and spies. Arab terrorist won't hesitate to attack such facilities, as they have attempted in the past. And Iran and Ahmadinejad aren't the 1st Mideast nation or leader to pledge the destruction of Israel and the Jews. Saddam Hussein and most of the tin-pot dictators of Muslim nations dreaming of a Pan Arab Nation have done so in the past.

Furthermore, neither Clinton nor Obama has ever hinted at wiping out any innocent countries, but they have stated they will come to Israel's defense if attacked or if Iran should develop nuclear weapons as it has pledged to use such weapons in a first strike. And while I don't care for President-elect Obama as he's a socialist, I take it ergoli believes he's a criminal because he hasn't pledged to stop American support for Israel's and the Jews' survival. As for Iran, it's the country that has refused to recognize another country and has vowed not only to wipe that country off the face of the earth but also to wipe out Jews wherever they are. Israel has never threatened to wipe out the Arabs, Palestinians, or Persians, unless of course it's attacked by nuclear weapons. In such a scenario I suspect most Mideast capitals will glow in the dark.

By the way ergoli, God forbid that we should become a "democracy." We're a democratic Republic under the rule of constitutional law; at least we once were. Also, I believe you should take some courses in history as both the Nazis and the Soviets had much better propaganda machines, unless of course you agreed with their anti-Semitic beliefs. But I would challenge you online to answer one simple question directly; does Israel have a right to exist as a Jewish nation with secure borders recognized by all its Arab and Persian neighbors, yes or no?
