Hey sublime...i never said that you were. I actually didn't realize that i posted that as a reply to you.

The point of the post was just to show how much actually happened in his presidency...and how much of it he could or could not control. We all know that he made mistakes..but there were some things he couldn't have stopped even if he knew beforehand.

Btw...why the profile change?

Oh okay, I understand now. I thought you were replying to me. I know Bush has not had an easy presidency, and it's unfortunate. Clinton, for instance, had no MAJOR crises to worry about - which was nice.

I changed it because I didn't really like the fact that I couldn't have a name without numbers on it. I had been meaning to change it (since it looks like I'm here for the long run), but I could never justify it.

Well, I got a little heated towards the end with people accusing Obama of stuff and got temp post banned. After I worked things out with the mod in question I felt it was a good time to start fresh.

I'm willing to give Obama the benefit of the doubt. He's not in office yet so he can't make mistakes to complain about or do good things that deserve praise.

I will say that i'm very worried of the route he may take though. I really think the government bailouts have to stop...but i'm torn about the auto industry in that regard. Quite honestly...i don't know how in the hell he's going to fix this. I'm beginning to think it isn't even possible. But i'd love to be wrong.

And i know exactly what you are talking about the whole McCain/Obama thing. I had to get out of that. People get too angry with emotions to where the point is lost and the insults take reign. I was guilty of it as well.

You do have good points to your posts although i disagree with many of them.

But that's another good thing about this site...you can see all the arguments from all sides and it can help open your mind to things one might not have considered beforehand.

Absolutely, David. And for the most part, the posts in question wouldn't have been made towards you. I don't mind a good disagreement, in fact, I welcome them. You are a pleasure to argue with, and if more of you were on the site, it would be better for it.

I am glad you are willing to give Obama the benefit of the doubt. I too am nervous about what will be coming in the future. Can Obama handle this? I don't know. Would McCain do better? Maybe. I think not, but it's possible. I liked McCain before the elections started.

Anyway, it's good to be back and I am glad this election is over. Now we can start moving away from mudslinging, and once Obama takes office, people can start critiquing him for real mistakes.

I used to think McCain would be better, but i started to think that it didn't matter. Both of them had questionable connections IMO. McCain would have passed many bills from the Democratic congress as they are now counting on him now to help get Rep votes to show unity.

I've really started to get the feeling that we are being duped....that it doesn't matter who's running our government anymore. I almost feel as if so many of us are arguing for one side or the other when they are both really on the same team.

It's like watching a baseball/football game where both teams are on the take with a predetermined outcome and we are left on the grandstands routing for our team not knowing the corruption that is happening before our eyes. We are held to it's mercy and there isn't much we can do about it if anything at all.

My mind has shifted so much on all of this...i often find it hard for myself to find any truthfulness or finality to it all.

There is just so much to worry about and i do understand why people's emotions run high.

I think the biggest tell of all, about whether he is real or not, will be if he actually begins trying to implement universal health care.

Now, whether or not you agree with that plan is one thing, but I just mean about if he is going to really attempt at being the president he claimed to be.

I believe that ultimately, God raises up leaders and tears them down. It is because I know that God is sovereign that I can say "it is well with my soul" that Obama is our President. I will not allow the idea of an Obama presidency to scare the life out of me because I know that God is in control and what will be, will be, because God allows it to happen.

I will pray for Obama. I will pray for God to impart wisdom upon him, and beyond that, I will just trust that God is in the driver's seat. Jesus is King of all kings and that is all I really need to remember.

To be honest with you i don't think he will be able to do it. We just don't have the money for it and our economy is tinkering on the edge. If it does happen, IMO, i think that it will happen because it HAS to happen...and by that i mean that people will be jobless and unable to afford insurance anymore. The government will have to take over to keep people alive and healthy.

If the economy doesn't turn around soon...we are all in DEEP DEEP trouble and i think that is becoming more apparent each day. It's not a rumor or a whisper anymore...it's here and we've got to find a way to deal with it. I don't think Obama has the answers....i really don't think anyone does right now.

On a side note...has anyone figured out a way to resurrect Einstein?? We could definitely use him right now!

People still wouldn't be happy. I saw a thread on here recently accusing Einstein of "stealing other's work". It was such baloney.

lol...that's ridiculous. Just goes to show you that there is a conspiracy theory for everything.

I wonder what Einstein would think of ATS? He'd either think we were all visionaries or complete loons....i'm guessing loons.

Here it is:

As you can see I couldn't resist and had to rebut.

It doesn't surprise me that people are attacking the man like they are. Hell, their guy has been bullied for eight years now. But what they don't understand is that their guy actually deserves the criticism. At this point, Obama has a clean slate, at least as far as I'm concerned.

It IS a little disheartening to see people disrespect the office of the President of these United States without apparent reason but I'm not surprised.

It's not anger. I'm not mad. Respect is earned, not given and it really is as simple as that. I've already noticed a pattern in his behaviors even before he has been sworn in and from my perspective, it seems as though he's already NOT calling the shots. We'll see, huh?

There is a certain default amount of respect the POTUS deserves from all citizens. This is before any action as POTUS has been taken. It is akin to the respect you have for the flag of our great country.

However, once executive actions are taken, you can easily start to have an opinion of the man as President. Keep in mind, and I'm sure you will agree to this, that there is a different face for campaigning then there is as President. A different game is being played.

Now, you may not like the man, but you still need to respect the office of POTUS in general. Once the man takes a step as President, feel free to dislike him for actual reasons based on his performance as President. Until then, you are simply hating on the man.

And no Ron Paul is *not* your president. He may be your idealogue of choice, but the President Elect of your country is Barack H Obama.

Oh, really? Says you? Well, I'll go ahead and give respect where respect is due. 114 active days over a two year period before being propegated by failing banks, and lying about living on food stamps to become president does not garner my respect. The minute he makes a genuine attempt to help us in our current situation, is the minute he will have my full and absolute respect, but by looking at his cabinet, I can already tell that against the beliefs of the people who voted for him, we might have to endure another years of the "Bush administration."

Though, I will wait to see, as he might get a wild hair and actually do good things for those of us who aren't dining on Iranian caviar, lobster, and champagne.

"you have to respect.."

Spare me.

Holy Crap, lots of neagtive and hostile feeling in here. I respect the office of the POTUS, Obama will have to earn it like Bush did (regardless of your belifes) for me. All this Bush hating is dumb, for gods shake people grow up, you have no proof that would stand up in court because if you did he wouldnt be president right now. Ignorance goes both ways and you cannot deny it, because you are inbracing anothers ignorance. NO need to get angry or upset, its not the end of the world like the interent crazys want you to believe. Hell I hope Obama does good, even though I dont like him and dont like what he stands for, I wish him godspeed.

I just hope he doesnt get assassinated and turned in to a mauder like JFK (whom did nothing amazing really).

Godspeed Senator Obama, I hope your presidenice works better than bush's(even thought i doubt it will).

Kennedy was the first president in 50 years that tried to give the power back to the people of the republic! The only president that dared to challenge the same people that have used and intimidated our presidents into good little lap dogs. If Obama has any sense of honor (which is fairly apparent that he does not) he will do the same, even after weighing the repercussions.

Could you be so kind as to explain why you believe that it is "failry apparent that he does not" have a sense of honor?

Last time I checked, the "Sense of something" was a subjective item which couldn't be measured objectively. Unless of course you are living with the man and see him on a day to day basis.

I'm just so tired of this baseless anti-obama rhetoric.

However, I dont have to respect him just because he won a title.

[edit on 11/7/2008 by greeneyedleo]

This is all I'm saying, but put much more nicely by greeneyedleo.

People say they lost respect for Bush through his actions. Some will not acknowledge him as president. So why must I respect Obama when he has done nothing to earn that respect yet except name a few cabinet members?

It works both ways.
