Can anyone say with a straight face the govt is a good steward of handing the money they tax from us?

I bet I can say it with a straight face but I'm not so sure I wouldnt get struck by lightning.

Good point. Because SO FAR the government SUCKS at managing the money they take ALREADY and they SUCK at managing ALL the programs they curretly have.

If you think that I want MORE of my money going to people who cant handle what the have NOW.....you are kidding!!!

Its sad to see comments like, why should my money pay for the welfare of others, and why should I etc you have read them you know what I mean, it seems that some of you complaining are proving Obamas point.

What has happened over the past few months is only the start, pretty soon your going to see jobs vanish, your income begin to disappear, and everything you own come under threat because your bills go unpaid.

What will you do then? when you cant find a job? when you have no money coming into your house? your all trying to tell me you would refuse some help in the shape of a welfare payment?

Some of the banks got their money back, why is it unfair for middle class people who have fed these vultures for years to want some of it back, especially now they can see where it went and those who stole it from them.

To not care about others less fortunate, IMO is selfish, I say should the shoe be on the other foot, and it becomes you who lives in a tent, I think the attitude would change in a NY second, its that kind of attitude that has caused these problems in the first place, and if you think you are immune to the real crisis that is to come, then I feel sorry for you I really do.

Its good for the soul to care about others, this is a time to pull together, not keep crying about the hatred which has been rammed into your head about communist this socialism that, go and do some research, you will discover the lies and deceit told to you about suffering in other countries, labeled as enemies.

Wake up and smell the damn bacon, this is not a personal crisis, its effecting everyone, its time for change, EVERYWHERE, unless change happens, your hard earned money will do you no good dead.

8 years of a moronic puppet, and those with money screaming about socialism, most of the private money in the world was taken from the innocent, the dying, and the suffering, and now the table is turning and its your turn to pay more than your share, you don't like it.

Yup selfish and greed go together in this one, your money will be no good in a world full of anarchy and death, you claim patriotism then pay your bloody way, some people cant help being poor, it matters not, they are not the ones complaining here, if it was up to me I know where id like to shove your money.

I'm not a Christian, but didn't someone once say the meek shall inherit the Earth?

In case you didn't notice, we are already paying our way. We (most of us) pay our fair share of taxes and don't complain.

Having said that, enough is enough.

You wanna come around here and claim that not wanting higher taxes to support welfare is selfish?? Give me a break.

I care about the next guy as much as anybody, and I'll do what I can to help them out. I won't however, stand for the government mandating that I help people just because they deem I have enough to.

That's not patriotic to me at all.

If not wanting the government to decide how much I can make and what I can do with my money is selfish, so be it.

But it isn't.

So your opinon is that ALL people who make LOTS of money NEVER share their wealth with those less fortunate???

Because if that is how you really think, then im concerned.

I, personally, am not making lots of money. I am the real middle class. My family on the other hand makes tons of money - enough to be taxed MORE, er be punished.

I and my family donate to local charities (time and money and clothing, etc) and my family also employes people who are "poor" for some of their businesses.

Myself and my family DONATE OUR MONEY, as we see fit. But if we are going to be taxed MORE, then that might affect the local charities that are being helped now.

On top of that - we are all already paying taxes. IT IS NOT MY FAULT THAT THE GOVERNMENT CANT HANDLE WHAT THEY TAKE NOW and blow it away on CRAP. Take it up with THEM not those making more money!!!

You should be screaming bloody murder at the government who can NOT handle a budget!! I can. My family can. And it is WRONG to take more from us when you have received enough!!

I think its an insult to hard working Americans to think that just because they make more money then you or someone else, that they are greedy, selfish people who never share - on their own.

Allow me to point out the irony of your post. Raising taxes on small business and corporations, which is what Obama has proposed to do from day one, is going to cause the loss of jobs which you referring to. So with that extra tax money he's getting he can pay for the extra people who now don't have jobs.

And secondly, myself and I doubt anyone else on this thread wants to cancel welfare. Welfare is already going and tax dollars are already paying for it. We do not want ADDITIONAL tax dollars getting distributed to people as tax credit checks from our money that we earning.

I wouldn't waste my time. It's obvious from his outlook from his above post that whatever they say can't be trusted.

As others have said, we already pay taxes. It's not our fault the government can't manage it.

Good post azzllin. People who complain the loudest about paying taxes are the ones that use the majority of public funds. FAA is not a cheap beauracracy to run by let's face it middle and lower middle class folks travel less than those that can afford all the loopholes. And I am so tired of seeing all those McMansions encrouching on our wilder areas catching fire then screaming for public servants and our money to put put them out.

Where do these people believe the money comes from for their highways and bridges, universities, all resue and law enforcement. All the infratructure we have is paid for with tax dollars.

Helping our fellow man with tax dollars is the least of it.

I was unaware of my status as being one who 'has money.'

I gross less than 30K and hate any and all taxation. Taxes are the single most evil thing on this Earth created by the most evil mobsters that ever lived.

Screw the FAA. Screw all federal departments. Fire the employees, torch the buildings and shoot whoever enacted them in the head in a stadium and sell tickets.

Those "McMansions" usually have VERY HIGH property taxes - which go to the very services you just mentioned. And usually THOSE high property taxes being paid by the people who can afford to live there are going towards services that you would use to, if you happen to live in a community who dont pay as high of property taxes, right next to the McMansions.

SEE how that works. So who is paying MORE for the services YOU use???

You don't get it do you?

Nobody is suggesting that we shouldn't pay taxes. The problem here is having the government come in and say, "you've made too much, we're going to take it from you and give it to these people." That's not right.

If we want to help people, we'll help them. We don't need the government in yet another area of our lives.

And not wanting this does not make us selfish as Obama said.

Even more than you, Obama just doesn't get it.

It isn't worth it, Nyk. Some people have an "entitlement" mindset, and nothing that is said will change it.

I don't feel like I am entitled to anything from the federal government except for my paycheck....and that's because I work 9 hours a day for them.

We, in this country, aren't entitled to anything. We shouldn't expect the government to prop us up when we are down, to give us handouts, to support us financially when we choose not to work or make our own way.

Charity is one thing....welfare is another. I will gladly give to and support charities who help those who CANNOT help themselves, but I think government welfare is a huge cop-out.....and in reality, a worthless handout.

A lot of people in this country believe they are entitled to something....and they can't understand why those of us who work, who make our own way, who never ask for handouts from anyone or any institution or any government entity have a problem with their sense of entitlement.

You're right, and you're dead on.

It's frustrating to see such growing dependence on government though, and Obama is only making things worse.

My gut is telling me McCain can pull this out though, so hopefully we won't have to battle this for 4 years.

Well if Obama gets elected president and his tax plan goes through you will see what will happen first hand.

Businesses don't pay taxes, they include the taxes they pay in the products that we buy. Everything you buy from the store has what is called a hidden tax of around 23%. Services that we buy also have this tax hidden in the product.

What is going to happen is that the corporations are going raise their prices to compensate for these tax increases and cut jobs to keep the business profitable.

Absolutely right!! Corporations are not about to make less money. The bottom line is all that matters. The end consumer will always pay the price so corporation shareholders can enjoy life to it's fullest.

Do you understand property TAXES and that if my house is worth a certain amount of money (IE im rich, therefore i can afford a "McMansion) that I will be paying MORE property TAXES then Jane Doe whos house down the street is worth LESS?

So if I own a million dollar home and am paying up the arse in property taxes and you own a 100K home, you are paying LESS taxes, yet we are using the SAME services!!! Same schools, same PD, same FD.

Now you tell me...........how is THAT fair to ME?

I star'd your post. So few people see it as plainly as you do. Katrina should serve as a wake up call. Not only will the Gov't NOT help you, in certain circumstances, they can't help you. The Gov't isn't the fictitious benevolent entity the Dems would like you to believe it is, the Gov't is an employer comprised of people like you and I. When the $4it hits the fan, our first thought is not to go to work, it's to hunker down and secure.
